I purchased the Doyle cutters. I made ONE test cut on # 3AWG cable and the blades on the Doyle cutters chipped. I promptly returned the cutters and ordered the Klein's and used them to cut the cable numerous times when installing a sub-panel. The Klein's remain perfect. I would conclude that you get what you pay for. Best regards.
The curve is also to prevent the cable from slipping out the top. Generally, many cheaper tools will perform well enough when new. It’s how they perform after a year or two in regular usage. That’s when the differences begin to show.
I’ve been in the Hvac industry about 15 years and I still have my original Klein wire crimping tool and they started wearing out and I was thinking about picking up a new set of Klein’s until one day I was in Harbor Fright and saw this Doyle brand for pretty good price with life time warranty and thought what the heck so I picked them up been using them for about a month and there really is little to no difference I can tell between the two, time will tell I don’t feel like I’ll get 15 years out of them though lol
Good comparison between tools. I like the realistic test of the cable fill. Would like to see a force or effort comparison cutting a 2 ga copper stranded cable. I tried a cut test between the same Klein tool and a Greenlee tool (all Greenlee hand tools are now made in China) The Klein took a lot less effort. Klein is definitely worth the money in the real world
The little $5 pair of Hyper Tough's that you can buy at Walmart aren't bad either. They cut #2 welding cable with no problem and fit in your pocket. For house wiring and fuel hose and the like they are handy as a pocket on a shirt. I have a set of those Klein's but I keep them in the tool box for special occasions and hardly ever use them.
I never really thought of using these for cutting anything more than large copper cables. I used to do a lot of curbside scrap hunting years ago and carried the $6 Harbor Freight versions of these that had the orange handle (I think they switched to blue more recently). If you just need to cut a cable off they are great. I can certainly see the advantage of having the nicer ones for broader use. I buy tools whenever I see deals and have Channellock, Knipex, and Klein that I've never used. I'll have to take a closer look at them.
Ya i was kinda surprised when he called Klein "a respectable brand" they are the industry leaders and have been making electricians into professionals for many many many years. The Only brand i will buy because of the warranty and USA made.
I have both the Doyle and an older pair of klein cable cutter. Im overall pleased with the doyle. They are definitely heavier than klein. The only complaint i have with them is that they are fairly stiff, but ive had kleins that were stiff until they got some use on them
Sample size: 1. I went for the Doyle, been cutting catV cable with that annoying filament, and it cuts right through it. Went to the store to buy the pittsburgh, but the Doyle seemed worth the price difference with the 20% off coupon being 15.99 made in taiwan vs 4.99 made in China. I mean it is a TOOL not a BURGER. . . About the only way to DIY QC these tools is to return and rebuy or if you took too long to return, do the "backdoor exchange", buy another one and return the lesser performing but not warranty worthy one. Some tools you can eyeball all day but until you start using them you don't know how the heck they'll do.
Another great review. I suspect wher ethe Klines would really shine thorugh is after thousands of cuts, they would problably keep a shaprper blade. For the DIY guy, the HF's would be great.
I use Greenlee cable cutters for up to 2/0 I really like them. Also USA made. Most of the stuff in my box is Klein. But I think there is a few tools Greenlee and Knipex do better.
I have yet to try the Doyle pliers but I have those Kleins and they cut good. I know that harbor freight is try to compete with Kleins and other pliers and tools at a cheaper price range. Also I like that they have a lifetime warranty if they break as well. Good video and good pliers for what they are.
Not so true anymore. I had 15 year old wire strippers and they were great. Obviously when I needed another pair I went with Klein and was very disappointed with the quality. Then purchased some Taiwan made Carlyle strippers and they are the best I’ve ever used.
Quin is good for home use. Doyle is a good worker back up if you do this professionally. For the price, a decent starter or back up set. Klein and Channel lock are still better.
Klein only has limited warrenty but the doyles have lifetime. I've destroyed to many pairs of kleins. I switch to the doyles just as nice and replced once already. lasted just as long as my kleins do.
Charles Collier can you just take em back to harbor freight to replace or do u have to go through Klein or internet stuff like Home Depot does with Klein’s Every pair of Klein’s I bought at homedepot if they get messed up homedepot won’t exchange hand to hand in store The supply houses will buy homedepot won’t
Charles Collier thanks man that’s a lot nicer than trying to replace Klein’s Usually for me it’s the blades not cutting or rivets lock up. I actually use my tools and use them hard so I need em to take a beating And it’s usually in the first few weeks that I have problems after that I have em for along time if they last
@@firsttaylor4607 I switched to Doyle brand for most cutters and pliers do to the warranty. I liked Klein but they wear out the same as Doyle. I only have to buy once then can replace multiple times for free.
The copies are more likely modeled after HK PORTER .. they're actually too sharp for actual long term use. I'm a 22yr journeyman electrician.. still using my first set of Klein's. Only had to replace one set of dykes after a helper cut a hot and neutral together blowing a hole in them.. same helper used a steel tape measure to see how far apart the posts on a car battery were. Yeah.. he's not in the electrical field any longer...
Years ago working as a maintanice mechanic cutting wires on a refrigeration unit that was being removed turned off the power at the panel no knife switch on unit for some reason panel predated the requirement for lockouts on panel doors. Used elec tape left note to stay out etc, go back climb up ladder 16 ft in air cut wire in very small box nicked term screw got the arc 3 ft from face. Boss is screaming at me about not shutting off power go back to panel find dishwasher throwing switches in a 3 phase panel trying to turn power back on for hot plate that tripped the breaker. Literally went ape-s--t kitchen manager tries telling me how to behave I told him he's lucky I didn't kill the jerk amo . My boss had to explain that the only reason I wasn't dead was that when I fell backwards i fell into a 4 inch sprinkler main.
@@urjnlegend That’s right, all hand tools are arranged for life. And they don’t repair like tool trucks. Your ratchet breaks, take it in and get a new one.
Be very careful when cutting coaxial TV cable (RG-6). Most RG-6 cables have a copper plated steel center conductor and will damage this type of cable cutting pliers. Coaxial cables having a pure copper center conductor can be safely cut with these pliers.
Not at all! I got the K12055 heavy duty wire strippers a while back, as my old pair of standard wire strippers were worn out. Very much worth every penny. The jaws stay aligned, the grip is more comfortable, and the cuts through the insulation are cleaner with far less damage to the wire.
Dude check your prices, takes 60 seconds before a video. Klein cutters on Amazon $27.65, Doyle HF $19.99 don't forget 20% off coupon would make it $16. Seriously you guess prices on every video, then I have to check and you are always off!!! Otherwise love your videos, just check you prices!
They are great. But I have knipex and I use it to cut piano wire. They have no equal Klein cant compete with that. They make a small hand bolt cutter too. but I am not using those so I am comparing apples to apples
Professional use? Buy the Klein. DIY'er who uses them couple times a year (at most)? But the HF. Either way, the person gets a tool that last lifetime with their usage. Pretty d*mn simple, isn't it? I have used Klein tool professionally, and they always managed to "disappear" when still working good as new, but never had any problem with their pliers, cutters, etc. Their screwdrivers? Not so much...They were always a so-so thing - very disappointing.
They are a bit better. But are they 33% better? (That's the price difference) To a professional electrician, who uses them many times a day? Sure. To someone like me, an auto mechanic who uses them a couple times a month to cut battery cables? Nope. The Doyle cutters are just fine.
@@puckcat22679 On aircraft occasional use and my personal level of quality would definitely warrant the extra expense. On my motorcycles I ride daily? I would pay 150% more and buy the Knipex version. The cars, airplanes, and other stuff would benefit too.
I have Klein cable cutters and they are great. For diagonal pliers buy knipex. I use them for piano wire, which ruined my kleins. Knipex is king, kleins are the king's cousin
doyle isnt on the 'can not' list on their coupons yet, get them before they add them. i used coupons for the whole collection and i could not be happier
jim bo I love the Bremen locking pliers. They're actually better than "original" vise-grip pliers are these days. Granted, the originals are not as good as they were 20 years ago, but when the Bremen ones are superior, I'm not paying for a name.
USA forging and tempering blows away ANY import tool. An import tool can look, feel and be shaped the same but they dont last! Pay a premium if you can afford it and youll get what you pay for.
The big difference, is Americans made the Kliens, who in the hell knows who made the Doyles. 3rd world country labor is always cheaper the Quality American Made labor.
Take a file to it you will soon see the difference in quality steel and harbor freight steel especially in electrical tools I wouldn't even think about buying a harbor freight tool
Why the hell would you compare horse manure to HF? You buy it nice then the drop quality for "warranty". A road paved to hell with cheap prices. Chinese rubber
