I purchased the Doyle cutters. I made ONE test cut on # 3AWG cable and the blades on the Doyle cutters chipped. I promptly returned the cutters and ordered the Klein's and used them to cut the cable numerous times when installing a sub-panel. The Klein's remain perfect. I would conclude that you get what you pay for. Best regards.

The curve is also to prevent the cable from slipping out the top. Generally, many cheaper tools will perform well enough when new. It’s how they perform after a year or two in regular usage. That’s when the differences begin to show.

I’ve been in the Hvac industry about 15 years and I still have my original Klein wire crimping tool and they started wearing out and I was thinking about picking up a new set of Klein’s until one day I was in Harbor Fright and saw this Doyle brand for pretty good price with life time warranty and thought what the heck so I picked them up been using them for about a month and there really is little to no difference I can tell between the two, time will tell I don’t feel like I’ll get 15 years out of them though lol

Good comparison between tools. I like the realistic test of the cable fill. Would like to see a force or effort comparison cutting a 2 ga copper stranded cable. I tried a cut test between the same Klein tool and a Greenlee tool (all Greenlee hand tools are now made in China) The Klein took a lot less effort. Klein is definitely worth the money in the real world

The little $5 pair of Hyper Tough's that you can buy at Walmart aren't bad either. They cut #2 welding cable with no problem and fit in your pocket. For house wiring and fuel hose and the like they are handy as a pocket on a shirt. I have a set of those Klein's but I keep them in the tool box for special occasions and hardly ever use them.

I never really thought of using these for cutting anything more than large copper cables. I used to do a lot of curbside scrap hunting years ago and carried the $6 Harbor Freight versions of these that had the orange handle (I think they switched to blue more recently). If you just need to cut a cable off they are great. I can certainly see the advantage of having the nicer ones for broader use. I buy tools whenever I see deals and have Channellock, Knipex, and Klein that I've never used. I'll have to take a closer look at them.

I have both the Doyle and an older pair of klein cable cutter. Im overall pleased with the doyle. They are definitely heavier than klein. The only complaint i have with them is that they are fairly stiff, but ive had kleins that were stiff until they got some use on them

Sample size: 1. I went for the Doyle, been cutting catV cable with that annoying filament, and it cuts right through it. Went to the store to buy the pittsburgh, but the Doyle seemed worth the price difference with the 20% off coupon being 15.99 made in taiwan vs 4.99 made in China. I mean it is a TOOL not a BURGER. . . About the only way to DIY QC these tools is to return and rebuy or if you took too long to return, do the "backdoor exchange", buy another one and return the lesser performing but not warranty worthy one. Some tools you can eyeball all day but until you start using them you don't know how the heck they'll do.

Also I like that they have a lifetime warranty if they break as well. Good video and good pliers for what they are.

The copies are more likely modeled after HK PORTER .. they're actually too sharp for actual long term use. I'm a 22yr journeyman electrician.. still using my first set of Klein's. Only had to replace one set of dykes after a helper cut a hot and neutral together blowing a hole in them.. same helper used a steel tape measure to see how far apart the posts on a car battery were. Yeah.. he's not in the electrical field any longer...

Professional use? Buy the Klein. DIY'er who uses them couple times a year (at most)? But the HF. Either way, the person gets a tool that last lifetime with their usage. Pretty d*mn simple, isn't it? I have used Klein tool professionally, and they always managed to "disappear" when still working good as new, but never had any problem with their pliers, cutters, etc. Their screwdrivers? Not so much...They were always a so-so thing - very disappointing.
