Brother Dow, my last job search cost me 167 (I logged each one) applications. Only got a handful of useful interviews. I have been at the gig I got going over 5 years now. It is unpleasant to say the least. I guess my point is, and no I'm not a troll or hater. that sometimes we gotta bite the bullet and handle the lameness of a bummer job so the bills not only get paid, but you can have extra dough to more than just get by. I hope you settle down. If credit is all that you think is keeping you from an LE gig, work on getting the credit better. Even a bankruptcy goes away after 7 years or so. Rock on and fight the good fight.

I suggested cdl many times because it’s easy to get into and you’ll make good money and can be local, understand it ain’t for everyone, but your definitely right about yucca valley being a terrible terrible location, your nearest place is Palm Springs where there’s also not much so yah definitely bad location wise, a move would definitely make a huge difference

Hey Justin, don't get discouraged by the naysayers. I give you credit for trying different things. I wish I had that drive. I'm 49, been a heavy equipment mechanic for 27 years. Dealer I work for gave me a half ass railroad job up to the parts department, long story I won't go into. Discovered that parts counter isn't really my thing but at my age where else do I go? Keep on going, you'll find something and something I hope you're happy with. There's not much worse than hating your job and feeling stuck at it. I'm here for the ride with you.

It looks like to me Oregon is the move you need to make. You can only do so much where you were at in the desert before. Now you having opportunities and possibilities at Oregon. Hopefully your family is willing to make the move and start a whole new adventure with you. This seems to be the answer to your needs so far.

@scottbritt9058
@scottbritt9058 Месяц назад
@melgross it's actually not that hard to do you can get a free llc online and then you look into insurance and he has the skills to do mobile and if he opens shop start small 1 bay maybe 2 1 lift and work your way up to employees. I'm almost at the point of starting my shop just need to save a few more dollars for lift. I got a 60 gal air compressor for 100 bucks will break down eventually but it's a start I have tool cause I wrench everyday. It's setting goals and achieving. Not hard if you want it it's hard for people who have there hand out and want to be given something. If your a go getter it will come yes it will take time but in the end he will strive for him and his family if he puts his mind to it
@melgross
@melgross Месяц назад
@@scottbritt9058 good luck. I hope you do well with it. I had two businesses, getting started is difficult. Getting customers is difficult. It’s not really a matter of “If you open it, customers will come.” It would be great if it were that automatic. But you have to build up a reputation and that’s hard. My businesses were t in mechanics, but it’s the same principle. You need some marketing. And the skill level had better be there, as well as the determination to stick the first months, or more, while you’re hopefully slowly building that customer base. Anyone who doesn’t have that grit shouldn’t even begin.

How much is someone worth? Look around and see what people with the same skill level are being paid in the industry and you see what they’re worth. Whether we like it or not, our idea of our own worth isn’t what we think it is, too often. Understanding what we really are worth helps be realistic.

I think most of us probably view you as like a little brother that you want to give advice to but you struggle with grit. You always have an excuse to give up easy. Law enforcement won’t hire you. You’d probably work for a month or two then try to get medical retirement or something. I’m not sure you’d pass a psych evaluation. You’re delusional on your willingness to be uncomfortable and grind for a better future. But I’ll admit I’ll keep watching hoping something changes but it won’t.
