I doubt those were made by him. I've seen that mark multiple times, both in the Cascades and in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I'm guessing that, given the small number of marks which can be easily cut into a tree with an axe, there is probably a lot of overlap between woodsmen.

The other important point is that someone could buy several of these, make the modifications that you did, and leave them in a couple of places. For instance, if someone had a hunting camp, this ax could stay at the camp. If one forgot to bring an ax, this one is there but doesn't represent a huge financial loss if something happens to it. If one remembers to bring another ax from home but two people are at camp, then two people can work on chopping chores.
@CleaveMountaineering

Being a professional homeowner myself, Harbor Freight items are amazing for when you just need something that is "good enough to do the job". I LOVE the oscillating tools they carry that go for $15. I'm a proud owner of 3 so when one tears up due to rough use I just pitch it and grab another. Still getting off cheaper than one of the "high end" brands and concern myself less with the care and handling of the tool. By the way I've given them the name of Oscar. Lol

Yet you still take the time to test the common man bushcraft items, and genuinely give them a go, and are honest about your experiences, good or bad. Including with non-common man items, like the mentioned Spyderco axe. I just really appreciate you, man. I love the detail you go into the, sorry, unfucking of the tool, sometimes. The thing is, yeah it might not be the worlds greatest super axe made out of super rare steel that was forged in the heart of the sun. But you could pick up several of them, sharpen them all up and have reasonably good axes in different locations like the car, a bug out bag, an emergency kit, by the door to split kindling. It is weird how snobby people get over such things. Does it do it's job reasonably well? yes. Am i going to cry if it breaks? no. checks all my boxes

When Cody first mentioned it, I went to the HF website to check it out, and it was $9.99, and had lots of horrible reviews, mostly head coming loose, but some handle breakage, too. When the video came out where he did the improvements, and the price had gone up, I checked again, and it was a different listing, with lots of good comments. Kinda weird.

Men, I discovered your channel by accident. But, since that I don`t lose a single video. It`s simple, direct, no trash talk and embrace us in those little pieces of your journey. Many thing to learn, some disagreements here and there but that`s how it goes. I not even a religious kind of person, but I always enjoy the final part, about yours and ours prays. Keep up with the great videos and let`s march to the top of the mountain! Prays from Brazil!

Thanks for the follow-up on the hatchet. Yes i prefer the review done while in the woods , Way better than backyard stuff on the back porch. Sure wish you actually used it rather than just walking around and actually talking about the views

After watching your first video on this axe, I went and bought myself one. Scraped, stained, honed, and treated mine just like you show in the video. I love this thing, great weight, solid construction. Thanks for the recommendation!

@@keithcronk7980 What on Earth are you going on about in ALL CAPS? I was sharing some "slightly" modified quotes from the Last of the Mohicans movie... because Cody used the movie soundtrack throughout his video. You know... comedic opportunism?

i bought my trailboss because of one of your videos for like $27 about 3 years ago, that axe has withstood more than the test of time it has been all across the country and beat up throw at trees big ole chunk out of the handle but it holds a heck of an edge and itll probably last another 20 years. Noiw im going to buy one of these from HF! cant wait to see this video hit 50k so you can climb that summit for us

In the spirit of the old bugle boy jeans commercials, “ pardon me, are those dual alternators you were running”? Great video. I bought 2 of these hatchets yesterday and modded them. Great hatchets. Something every professional homeowner needs to own!

I picked up one of these, sharpened it up and fixed up the handle, and it really is a great axe. It's like a mutt. I'd rather have a mutt from the pound than a fancy purebred dog.

Agreed. Sometimes the axe you have is better than the one you have to save for. Especially when you need firewood.

Love your message but please let’s make sure we don’t cut down trees in National forest unless with a permit or in a survival situation. Keep up the good work let’s just make sure we keep like you said ancient forest around for generation to see.

I bought the full size HF hickory handle axe several months ago, I've been so impressed with it I recently purchased another one (I liked the grain in the handle better than the first one I picked) and also grabbed the only hickory hatchet they had left! I was so excited to get one, I know silly... But it's a great thing when a $12 tool can give you the fizz. I'll call that a win every day of the week! Looking forward to putting the hatchet through it's paces.

Love the videos but I have a question. In Boy Scouts I learned the principles of “leave no trace” one of which was to not take from living plants as what I needed could just as easily be found from a dead plant. When camping we would bring in firewood or find it around the camp. What are your thoughts on this?
