Your video is by far the best description video on this product. A buddy of mine gave me one of these.. It came without instruction manual and all thrown together in a box. I kind of had the gist of it but still has some questions in your video tied it all together. Thanks a lot dude.

I bought my first portable garage 3 years ago to shelter my boat and provide a shaded work area during the summer. It was great. That winter it was hit by a blizzard with a tremendous, sustained, north wind. The weight of the snow and pressure from the wind bent the frame and caused the shelter to lean to the right. The following spring/summer it was hit by a sustained south wind. My hope was that the wind, from the opposite direction, would straighten the frame. It didn't. It caused some of the joints to snap. But because I liked the shelter so much, I bought another one. This time I installed wind breaks (using the tarp walls from the first shelter) on the north and south sides. They worked extremely well and my shelter has now survived it's second year. I recommend it. Just don't expect it to be as strong as a fixed structure.

This helped! Thanks. HF instructions are a little vague on what to do with the top cover straps. Don't really like the the way they are designed having them visible from outside. I found using duct tape ( what else) to secure the pipes together until I was happy with structure and then I added self taping screws to secure the section together. Nice and rigid now and the duct tape held the pieces together while I worked on it by myself. I would admit it could have been easier with another helper but not a necessity.

man, this would make a killer homegamer paint booth for repainting cars if it was like 5 feet longer. 17 feet is too close to the actual size of most cars to be useful in that way.

At $179 on sale you could butt two of them together and have all the length you need. I still think it would be a little narrow. Great idea though to paint parts or motorcycles maybe?

Mary Tidwell sounds like it's warmer in your garage than outside. And there is moisture in the atmosphere... So either dry out the air or cool it down inside. If it must be hot inside, perhaps get a dehumidifier? Finally, warming up the layer of air on the surface of the garage, outside, will solve the condensation problem however it would be very challenging :)

Just built the tent , and just like you I was amazed to see that I took almost 3 hours to build this myself , it’s good to have a Impact gun Impact Drill Stainless steel screws Each individual pipe and bend should get a screw , it makes it way sturdier and when it came to the door and rear , my luck as yours the belt lasso came out the other end and was stick trying to install it back I end up using the ANTENNA from my truck that screws off , I tied a knot and fed it threw it help a lot So far very pleased and the price has when up on it but its worth the dollar $229 plus tax Highly recommend for a car , storing the law mower and other miscellaneous items

at around 4:25, I found that taping a small rock to the straps and then massaging the rock down to feed it down the slots in the tarp the can also do the job. Gravity does some of the work too. Better way is not to have to do that feeding in the first place. Lay out the tarp, and attach the ratchet straps to the ends of the straps first. That provides enough weight that the ratcheting mechanism won't go back up the slots in the tarp when you hang the tarp on the frame.

I bought and build one of these about 4 years ago the tarp that covers it only lasted 2 years I did put self tapping screws on every joint problem was when I went to tear it down the self tapping screws had bent the outer pull into the inner Pole and I couldn't get the poles apart very easily so long story short the frame itself is still sitting in the yard no tarp . Nice while it lasted though.

I've had one for years. After the ends wore out, I built T1-11 ends for it, with a small door in one end, and two full-sheet swinging doors in the other. If you want to really tie it down to dirt, drive some steel fence posts parallel to the uprights and bolt or clamp them to the tubes.

On the inside of the cover?
@frankschwartz7405
@frankschwartz7405 2 года назад
@@lydiahubbell6278 Well, my ends are long gone, so I used sheet metal mending plates and construction screws to attach 2x3s to the tubes. Then I drove the steel posts in at an angle and screwed them to the 2x3s...and plywood. So in my case...the outside.You could do it on the inside, but have to be careful of any exposed sharp edges to ruin your cover.

I moved my "carport" to the back yard and it's now a cover for my kids' swings. I bought it with the intent to use it to shade me while I film videos (majority of my videos are vehicle repairs/detailing). I may add wheels to the legs so I can roll it around. It's a pain to move it myself and when moved you always have to fear it will blow away.

TRY to HELP you Did you consider re tarping it? I bought a used vinyl billboard for the eventuality of it deteriorating. The one I got was a flowery Meijer's supermarket billboard, with the reverse side being black. It should be much longer lasting with that material. Mine's still been holding up, though I accidentally gashed it in a couple spots with some sheet metal. Patched it with some silicone and denim strips, and it's been holding up through some heavy winds and snow storms so far.

TRY to HELP you Thanks for the update! Been watching a lot of these videos, so I'm aware of the UV breakdown effect. YES, thanks for that. I looked into it. Didnt want to persue it but it is a great option. I did buy a tarp a while back to cover an ongoing project. Check out my welder video i recently posted and you can see a harbor freight blue tarp on the frame of this thing... it fit well. i was not even planning on that. But i used it as an outdoor work area during some rain.... that billboard material tho... great idea, for sure.

Your video was one that convinced me to do HF. We purchased the 10x17 (for about $190 total) and the 10x10 (about $170 total) last October. Between the two the 10x17 is a much better product in my opinion. It's taller and has a ton more room. We're well into northern Michigan snow and so far all is well. I just have to remember to bump the snow off. I plan to get another 10x17 in 2018.

TRY to HELP you Check into getting a vinyl tarp from eBay, there's a seller that had old vinyl billboards that could be used for a replacement, and should be longer lasting than the original material. Only thing is that it's black on the back side, and some advertising on the other, so it may not fit with your decor, or be a solar collector if the black is used outside.

I bought one for the eventuality of the original one turning into a flapper; I haven't had a chance to even unfurl it completely to see what kind of ad I got. Have to wait until I get some help to do that, because it's too tedious trying to do it on my own. All I could see is a flowery pattern, seems like maybe a grocery store of some kind. It's much more cost effective than buying a new vinyl tarp; they ask crazy prices for decent ones. the one I got was from pointonepremiums on ebay; you might start your search there to see what's available.

i had the same shed , but mine was a 10 by 17 from harbor freight . in 2 years your roof is going to split apart and you will have to cover the frame with a tent that you will continually have to buy if you want to use it. but for a quick fix if you cant order a carport or a real shed due to finances at the time this is a quick fix. 140 bucks for 2 years and 2 hours worth of work still not bad . but in the long run your throwing away money because they dont make replacement canvass for it .

@unclemikeb

Using tape to hold the pipes together will prevent them from coming apart during assembly. It is designed for the cover to pinch the pipes and hold it all together. But of course that doesn't work till the cover is on. The self tapping screws are a good idea. If you live in snow country, I strongly suggest tying rope to support the roof so it can't sag. I put two ropes between each of the pipes on the roof. Tie the rope to one of the upper side rails, pass over the roof raill and tie off on the other side rail. I used a truckers hitch to make certain I got them good and tight. That will prevent the snow from causing a sag in the material which can create so much weight it bends the poles. I have seen guys add metal poles but that is a lot more expensive and may not be necessary if your ropes are tight. Otherwise I suppose you could use ratchet straps.
@frankfoster7153
@frankfoster7153 5 лет назад
thanks for the vid.....very helpful.....just putting one up.....was confused at the ends; maybe the instructions should have said to put the ends on BEFORE you put it all together and then have to take it back apart..(just a thought)...also would have been MUCH easier if they would have made the hem flap like an inch bigger and you could put the pipes IN them and make it 10 times stronger...(just another thought)...assembly just in it's infancy....will probably have something else to complain about tomorrow....;)

I like it still, while the first one didn't last after I punched a hole thru the top shoveling snow off (should have just left the snow), I like it. @@TRYtoHELPyou I've had 2 of these in my backyard for 4 years. In the part of California that I live in there isn't any snow and we have HOT summers. I got 2 years out of the tops. I tried an 80.00 replacement top that matched but it only lasted 1 year. Because I'm on the side of my house in the backyard I decided to go with a heavy duty 18x20 tarp. Even new these aren't super pretty but much uglier now with an tarp over it. They seem to always tear on the top side of the cover where it makes contact with the metal pipes. I'm considering using flex tape along the top sides of the cover running it right on top of where the pipes are. I haven't priced this out but would think this has some potential to get another year or 2 out of an original canvas top.

Can someone show how to put self tapping screws in?
@TRYtoHELPyou
@TRYtoHELPyou 2 года назад
Sorry for not seeing this sooner. Lots of videos I'm sure. Essentially you put the screw in the drill bit, set it to high speed and pull the trigger, press and wait for it to cut and catch. Wear safety goggles!

I would like to mention to people considering this garage is you can buy replacement ends and top tarps from Harbor Freight, add /parts to the URL to get there. The tarp top last about 2 years, then water will start coming thru.

@roryhawk1 3 года назад
How does the tarp/canopy hold up over the years with exposure to sun? I am worried I will buy this and set it up only to have it torn to pieces in a year.
@TRYtoHELPyou
@TRYtoHELPyou 3 года назад
It will last a year, starts to thin out. Really depends where you are. We have the frame to this day and a silver tarp on the top with all sides exposed. Was worth the money, definitely not a shed tho.

did you really put this thing together without using sheetmetal screws at all of the connecting points? I know they dont come with the kit, but you did say you were handy with tools.

You're funny. :P I was looking for reviews on this after getting a coupon to get it for $169.00 (same size as the one in the video) but I wanted to see if it was any good even though I only plan to use it temporarily while I work on the outside of my van. I also will have to measure it to be sure my van will fit. If not then I will need to see if they have a bigger one. My other issue is having a dirt drive but I have railroad ties on the outside of the drive that are fastened into the ground so I could use those to attach the garage to I guess. - Heidi

Thanks. Our chrysler voyager fits in here. You should be able to use the long auger bit things to hold down the corners. All in all, its worth the money i think. good luck with it!

I would probably have to go with shelter logic because I have a 2010 Toyota Tacoma access cab and the harbor freight is not long enough,,, in my area these little shelters garage deals are the best way to go because our county doesn’t tax you for them so as long as there’s not an actual true foundation,,, go to the Quarry and get some stone and dust mixed and spray the ground for weeds put stone and dust down and roll it to pack it tight probably last a good long time

I bought one of these. It was awesome....... for a week,.....then a storm hit and completely destroyed it. Bent the hell out of it at every joint. The metal tubing is very weak and thin. If you could put it up where wind will never hit it, it would be great.
