When welding cars and trucks you should be using .023 wire. I have been doing body work for a living for over 30 years and that size is the best wire for it.

I like it too. I bought the 170 about 7 months ago. It makes beautiful beads when dialed in correctly.

Everyone has to find the sweet spot. Just like a firearm you can fire the same factory round through the exact same type rifle from the same manufacture and will get different results. So any one welding should keep a "Dope Book" to log down your settings for different metals type of welds etc. Just put them on your phone so they are always handy.

I didn’t like this welder at first…went through gas super quick. Upgraded the regulator to the Olsen that HF sells. Also upgraded the mig gun for the replacement that HTP offers along with a better ground clamp…..world of difference! Better welds and a lot less gas consumption. Doesn’t post flow like it used to with the original gun/torch. Could have been the regulator too but I replaced both parts the same night so I don’t know what was the ultimate fix as far as gas goes. The HTP gun is far better though.

Hello mike just a comment on tips and nozzles. I find that if I take a chunk of scrap and just run a bead to heat it up an then quench the the nozzle and yip into a jar of "TIP DIP" that you get a more consistant even gas flow and the tips last a lot longer

My normal welders are Lincoln. I have the 140, 180 and the 225 "Tombstone." Recently, I thought I would try these new inverter type welders. With that said, I bought the Vulcan Omnipro 220 (which works beautifully) and then bought a Titanium 170 (which I couldn't pass up since it was an "open box" sale). When I tried out the Titanium 170, I noticed that the settings on the lid were too low for what I was working on, so I kicked up the amps and wire speed and it seemed to work great. But then my wire started spitting and got stuck to the tip. I changed out the tip and again the welder worked great. I was thinking that maybe I got a dud, but after watching your video, I feel as though this might be pretty common in these Titanium welders. Thanks for the re-assurance!

What I dont understand is the guide on the inside... it stops at 1/8" material, but says it can weld up to 5/16? So where are the rest of the settings lol
@minegun3
@minegun3 3 года назад
It is annoying, but it will weld 1/4in no problem. I've found it's actually got alot more power then they advertise it has. And I've also found the thin thickness settings. Are off exspecally useing CO2 on .030 wire. That setting they say to use on 22ga is way off. Barely welds trying that setting they suggested.

They probably don’t want to be responsible if someone uses this for something structural or similar and doesn’t hold up and they say “well I used their recommendations”

Does yours feed at 80 inches per min? My Titanium 170 (2nd one ive tried) wont feed below 120 ipm (110v or 220v) but works fine above that. It arcs then stops feeding but continues to arc from the tip to the work.

I have been thinking of getting this welder, waiting for price to come down a bit. I have watched a few vids and it seems decent. One complaint I have read about 120v welders is they trip breakers a lot. Did you have a problem with that or are these people just screwing it up? LOL
@Mikefngarage
@Mikefngarage 3 года назад
no tripping breakers. this is an inverter welder so it uses less energy. Welds really nice. I call it the Sheet metal KING. Use supply house wire not harbor freight and you will be super happy.

I just bought this welder and got it set up with flux core right now, waiting for my bottle to get filled to run gas. I have a question about using an extension cord with the welder. I have a 12 gauge cord, but I'm thinking I should get a bigger cord. Can I run this welder with an extension cord?

@nickolashiller9143
@nickolashiller9143 2 года назад
Lots of variables… try not to use a extension cord but if you do the shorter the cord the better. For tack welding you’d be fine but if the welders turned up and you’re running it for longer than 30 second long welds you’re pushing it

Hi Mike... I'm thinking of getting one of these. You mentioned in your video that you found a place to get an upgraded gun cable.. Could you tell me where that might be ?? Thanks in advance
@Mikefngarage
@Mikefngarage 3 года назад
ebay has someone who sells them I dont know the brand or upgrades but if you really take care of the wand and dont even step on it. I am thinking it would last forever. But I got the warranty and no questions asked will return it every year. just to be safe and buy another warranty. Cheap insurance. IMO. Welder really works fantastic for the price. Look for the coupon specifically for the Mig 140 and use it they are 349 with that coupon. also I am putting lots of settings on my videos of using it to do metal work so it will be easier for guys like you to figure out settings. For some reason I just found out that my first video is on their website for the product ha ha. Wasn't planned that way at all.
@brucewalters8974
@brucewalters8974 3 года назад
Hi again Mike... Thanks for the quick reply. It is much appreciated. I did place the order, and completely forgot to add the extended warranty. Just contacted HF to add it. HF didn't have a coupon for the welder, but got $10 off. Ended up getting it for $369.. I'm just now learning (or trying to learn) how to weld. What do they call someone who knows less than a Newbie.. As far as HF posting your video on their website, it's good to know that even HF recognizes quality content... I'm subscribing to your channel, and look forward to more of your videos... Keep up the GREAT work... :)

I would not......Only maybe an inverter gen like a 3500 inverter might work. The newer Inverter welders have a lot of electronics in them and the fluctuation in voltage will fry components
