@@lahypnotista7737 depending on the color and the gauge (thickness) of the metal, the price can be anywhere from .99 cent per linear foot up to $4 per linear foot. Judging from my experience though, the most common gauge used for the PBR panel is 26 gauge. And the most common color is "galvalume" (the silver/gray speckled color) used in the video. I made a structure similar to this - but I added 2/2s as purlins on the roof and attached to the metal rafters using galvanized 2 hole U shaped steel straps to hold them to the rafter pipes (screwed up from underneath). I screwed my roofing directly into the purlins and ran them vertically for rain drainage. This made the roof stronger for my climate. I also built one of these where I doubled up the frame , cutting the plate and ridge poles in half (people often get rid of their frames on Craigslist - just found one that was the same as mine and cut the pipes with my sawmill using the pipe studs and pipe rafters and connecters). Again, made the roof stronger for snow load.

I have a similar set up. Instead of the frame kit, I used galvanized fence pipe and found connecting joints online. I was able to get the joints in the angles I needed. I also increased it from 4 legs/cross members to 7. This made it considerable stronger than the kit frame. It did cost a little more though.

Except for the concrete floor, "THIS" is how I'm planning to redo my Harbor Freight 10 X 17 ft. "PORTABLE GARAGE"!!! Since I live "Out In The Middle Of Nowhere", I don't have any of those "RIDICULES ZONING RULES" you were forced to conform to. I lived in a small town with a population of less than 1,500 for about 12 years & the zoning "Whatevers" there were pretty hard to understand. Although I'd lose that what, extra 1 foot of floor width due to it's slanted sides, I was planning to make the walls vertical (Plumb) as you did by bending them in a little. Thanks for making this video to show us how you converted what was pretty close to a tent into an actual building. By the way, I've got a few of "THOSE PUT AWAY PLACES" as well so you're not alone (I was glad to hear I that there's other people who HAVE STUFF IN "PUT AWAY PLACES"). It would be nice to find those places, wouldn't it? Thanks again for this video. Good job!!!

Nice DIY work. I'm going to use and old 22 foot camping trailer. Strip the camper to the frame (it's crap anyway), new floor and then use walk-through scaffolding as the supports. You can buy the pipe fittings online for each corner and double them up to increase possible snow load. It being a trailer, the only restriction is 8 feet max width but it will never see the road. Having permanent trailer tags keeps code enforcement and DMV at bay and allows me to park it anywhere in my back yard. After a couple years in the sun, the factory panel coating may degrade and just buy some tint-able roll-on bed liner and seal it up good from the outside. Don't forget a wide lockable door insulation and ventilation. Best part is you can do it in stages.

Love the idea. Have 2 mods I would make to this since I live in heavy snow country: 1. Mount the roof panels the other way (vertically) to support snow sliding off. 2. Buy a 2nd $200 HF garage, cut the horizontal poles in the middle and install the vertical poles from the 2nd kit there. This should give the 3’ spacing you’ll need to attach the panels vertically while at the same time DOUBLING the weight it can support before the poles start to bend. Couldn’t buy wood to reinforce any cheaper than that. Since the roof panels will lose their rigidity mounted in this way I know I’ll need some sort of purlings to give rigidity to the panels so they don’t bow and pull the vertical poles toward each other. Thinking 1.5” conduit. One row about half way down the roofline on each side might do. Maybe two per side if I feel it needs it. Thanks for the vid - got my brain thinking

One thing that may important to some people. PBR panels are painted at the factory, after they are cut to size. The painting method is intended to provide protection from moisture. If you cut a panel, you cut that protection and will soon have rust. It is best not to cut them at all, but if you do, be sure that you follow the manufacturers instructions to reseal those edges.
@mikesrandomvideos
@mikesrandomvideos 2 года назад
good point. especially in the rust belt. the salt can corrode those edges and creep under the Zinc coating.

using screw eyes on frame bolts allows x brace cables inside 3/4 conduit especially on end sections. Built green house with same frame. An alternative inside sheathing is FRP sheets or Diebond (thin layers of aluminum with Polypropylene core. Both cut with circular saw either lap and glue/screw or use a backer on seams and glue/screw to that. Both are water/vermin proof will add resistance to racking and if glue and screwed make a stress skin panel. Same with outer panels. Metal building catalogs have exterior trim, foam insulation strips, and simpson plates for mounting lights, roof vents, hinges for doors.

Yep my frame is from the tent type storage shed and I will be honest, it was ok But the tent fabric lasted only two years. The sun rotted the fabric in no time. So now after seeing your video I'm gonna do the same thing but when it comes the roof panels, I might ask the metle company if they can groove only one section of a sheet and leave the rest flat. That way I can have a smooth roof rain and snow run off. Again great job. Thanks for sharing. You now have a new subscriber.... Thumbs Up !

Goodolboy One no grooves/ribs equals no strength. Just add wood or metal purlins to the roof at 90° to the frame and install the metal parallel to the frame or opposite to what this Video shows. End result is rain and snow will run off. Could gutter it also! With the wood purlins the strength of the roof will increase dramatically!

Nice job. I'm thinking about doing something similar using a bunch of steel conduit pipes that I already have.

If you make it just wide enough to get a vehicle into but would not be able to open the door you need to think outside the box and install a swing door where the door would open so you can open the wall to give yourself enough room to get in/out but then close it back up when not in use with a simple gate latch to keep it closed. When you are making it up as you go you are not limited to what a manufacture made as long as you have access to materials and tools to let you do what you can think up.

Thank you. I have a stronger frame but have to replace the cover every year. I might do this.

Holy wowsers..... My tarp ripped up on Christmas and I have been parking in a skeleton for the last few weeks. What an awesome conversion. The wind at my house would tear this to shreds but.... But it could possibly be safely replicated... Man. Looks great! Thanks for leaving the comment on my video

Wow I love this! I had looked at the Harbor Freight carport but the reviews were not that good due to flimsy construction. This adds a whole new dimension to the strength of the structure. Quick question, did you bend a panel to overlap the roof crest or is there another way to join the top and make it waterproof? Thanks for any info! New Sub!

Hah. About 2 moths ago i just did the same to make a new horse shelter. Took a pole tent i already had (i have atleast 20 frames worth of pipe and fittings) cut it down, took the scrap sheets they used to cover my roof panels in transit when i did my roof 2 years ago, and some plywood since its a horse, id rather she mess up wood then the metal and possibly slice herself severely. I bought a box of screws and some hat track for extra support/mounting locations. Was into it for about 150 bucks not including the cost of what i had laying around.

Not worried about 80 mph wind, you should be. You have a 8ft span across back with no uprights to screw metal to. Most pbr panels recommend 4ft maximum spacing
@mikesrandomvideos
@mikesrandomvideos 3 года назад
already had 80 mph wind gusts and there was no issues. my shade sails ripped off but those 2 buildings didnt even move. I am around 4 ft spacing 15 ft with 4. on a building that size it is fine. bigger then you would need correct spacing. and thicker and larger poles.
