Hard Bronze BRAZING on the cheap using LPG/PROPANE & Bullfinch Torch 

Bargain price well done.. I just chopped off the UK reg & fitted US regulator that i found on ebay or Amazon i cant remember which, the reg came with hose fitted so i just joined the two together giving a longer hose which i find better to work with, works well its a very nice torch..

What is the Bullfinch order number for a regulator to fit a U.S. propane tank? (fradetj@gmail.con)

@Oracladeus the regulator says 30PSI gauge so wont output 4 bar regardless of what the gauge reads up to. It is the manufacturer that states it must be 4 bar, I know that at to low a flow/ pressure that many torches burn in the torch or to close to the nozzle and burn the torch up, I have one that will destroy the torch in seconds if it is allowed to burn low and it has stainless steel nozzles ( it is a real power house for its size too).

Boy - propane is a poor-boy's proxy for a welder - heat considerations make it all but obsolete unless you really know what you're doing (and by that I mean why in the hell you would want to use it instead of a modern mig or tig or even stick welder?) Even for bronzing. Especially if it saves you a tremendous amount of unecessary labor!

When you say weld I’m assuming you mean brazing like in this video. Welding melts the parent and filler metal its impossible to do with a air propane torch. It’s possible with a oxygen propane torch but barely. Brazing is where The melting point of the filler metal is above 450°C, but always below the melting temperature of the parent metal to be joined. Soldering is the same but with the melting point of the filler metal below 450°C

I would think so, bicycle frames are often Brazed although i am no expert on this subject but if you google brazing & bicycles there is a ton of info out there o this subject.

Brazing was the number 1 main way to bond bicycle tubes all the way upto at least the 90s. But brazed bicycle frames use "lugs" which are similar to the connectors used in copper tube plumbing (but investment cast) . As the lug & tubing is heated and cools it helps to suck in the brazing filler making for neat and solid joints. I expect doing it without lugs will work perfectly fine but will require more skill and a lot more filler material. Remember that in brazing the work material (your steel tubes) will not be melting. The braze is almost like glue sticking two pieces of metal together. Also bear in mind that propane on its own burns at 1980 °C 3596 °F. Whilst bicycle brazing is always done with oxy acetylene torches which burn at 3100 °C 5612 °F. And if this is just a push bike sidecar for a bit of fun, really anything would work. You could even build it out of copper plumbing pipe or even ABS plastic pipe and use chemical solvent to weld them together.

If your doing aluminum as long as you have a good braze it almost as strong as a weld maybe stronger since aluminum braze rods are stronger than aluminum
