Before buying new boards and swapping chips first check the 5&12V TVS diodes that act as protection in situations like this.

What happens if I don't have the original Bios chip? I lost my pcb long time ago... have lots of data on this drive. Dont want to spend on repair, but if I get the replacement identical firmware/serial/model pcb will it work?

hi, i hope you may be able to help: i bought a replacement PCB board, to do a BIOS CHIP SWAP, and my local computer repairers said, it seams my old bios chip has oxidised, and is unsavalagable, is there any other way(platter swap) that i may be able to recover data. thanks in advance for your reply,regards Graham,Liverpool/England

Actually, is replacing the board without the bios results in the drive being not able to read a single sector (reporting sector unreadable) or is there something worse in my case? I have a Seagate 1er164-302

Hard to tell, Look at other donor boards from same maker, sometimes the layout does not differ by much.

@NorthrideFix not sure if you'll ever read this or reply, but what is the difference between using the low melt solder stick like you have vs a paste out of a syringe?

Low melt solder and solder paste are 2 different things. Solder paste in world of repair is used for reballing BGA chips (Not practical using it for anything else.) where as low melt solder is used to mix with unleaded solder to lower melting temperature and desolder components.

what do you think is the issue if i have already swapped the bios from an old pcb to the new one and it worked for several hours i was able to transfer few files then it did not work the next day. then it won't get detected on disk management. I have tried buying a new pcb and transferred the bios once again but it still won't push in getting the hdd to be detected. does it mean the bios chip is dead?

I had capacitor blown off on my HDD too but after replacing it doesn't even run its like I am connecting nothing to PC... I replaced it 3 times nothing happens . Maybe I have to buy a board now

Hi I have a hardisk with the Rom (Bios burned - in the sense that PCB's rom is missing) Reason I had buying a card to do the swapping but the repairman lost the original card) Do you think it is possible to recover my Seagate Hardisk? In short, the HD has never been opened and card that has does not have the original BIOS I feel the engine turns but it doesn't see any data windows with new pcb donnor Thx Franco Italy

Note 5 has 2 mic, One on the bottom and one on top. Top mic is probably used when you are in speaker mode and it could be faulty. Try this quick fix, Go to settings under sounds and select allow to play with hearing aids.

I don't think there's such a thing as "video game hard drive", the computer should at least be able to detect them in the BIOS even if they use a filesystem that isn't compatible with your OS.
