As a long time moto engineer I appreciate the rare intelligent and objective review. Kudos! The reviewer accurately picks up on some nuanced differences in TPI and carburetion, and diaphragm versus helical coil springs clutches. As a long term trials rider I appreciate seeing the rider's wide mastery of trials skills applied to Hard Enduro.
The footage of you climbing the side of cliff face really puts terrain into perspective. I'm at that age in my life where if I smell burning clutch I'll limp it home. After owning a 4stroke for last 10yrs I'm still weary of abusing bike for fear of it costing a thousand dollars to fix..
Excellent video: lots of detailed, specific information that allows those of us who don't have the opportunity to ride each of these machines to still make an informed choice.

Honestly, hands down the best person I have ever heard describe the minutia of hard enduro riding. You’re so skilled at breaking down extremely hard to describe and very specific aspects of riding technique etc.
Excellent breakdown of how you feel each bike rides, pros and cons. I can attest that having quick and easy access to parts is incredibly important. I've just come from an OG Gas Gas which was always a real struggle to get parts for. Now on a Beta and it couldn't be easier as most shops have parts in stock, and Beta Aus have a really good online store for OEM parts. Keep up the great work Rich!

That's the best explanation of carb vs fuel injection. I went 21 Beta cause I couldn't get used to the 19 Husky throttle. Loving the Beta so far, really close to my 17 Ktm, which was awesome of course!

Thanks for the clutch discussion. I totally love the carb vs tpi description. The lag and sloppiness of butterfly and Venturi create a clutch out of predictable slop in the throttle….allowing decrease clutch use…genius….always a two stroke? Lighter easy work on? Gonna buy new bike…wanna practice this stuff. I want the bike light and predictable….lugs well stock for 6’2….200 lbs. want predictable blip for easier wheelie.
The best enduro comparative video I`ve seen so far!! Great work, and awesome details comparasion, with no brand preference, instead of like some others that just insist of comparing KTM bikes with KTM bikes with other colors. Would be awesome to try and review some more different bikes, like Rieju (old Gasgas) and TM (now also injected 2 strokes). Keep the good work!
Tm still has a 5spd box & the most expensive & has shit parts availability! Has all the best bling but out dated motor & the lack of a 6sp box makes no better the a yz I’d like to see Tm at least get a 6spd box with a good spread of ratios
@@shanebutler5787, try it (a TM) before you speak again. I never had one, but have tried it already, both carbureted and injected bikes, and the motor is way stronger than a KTM! A Yamaha YZ is just a motocross bike (or a X with some details better for enduro), but is never a real enduro bike like an european one. And I`m not saying a YZ is not a good bike, it`s a great bike (quality made is better than most european bikes), but for real enduro, any european enduro bikes are more suitable for it (with electric start, etc). The TM bikes are awesome (even with only 5 gear box), but not cheap, and not many aftermarket parts.
I've got a 2018 gasgas (same exact thing as the new rieju). The bike is excellent in every way, except for the e-start. Great breaks, great suspension, very punchy engine on the low end. But the e-starter sucks massive balls. I honestly don't recommend the bike unless you're willing to to the 24v starter.
@@foil666, yes, great brakes, suspension, and the engine is always there! The e-start is basically the same has 2013 KTM bikes, unfortunately far from the other bikes. But besides that, it`s a awesome machine. But the Rieju, or even the 2019 Gasgas, had some minor improvments over the 2018 Gasgas (I had them all).

Thanks Rich for your feedback. Once again all of these bikes can, in the right hands put the best riders on the top box. With that said its still 90% the riders ability and not the bike. Thanks Rich, I Rode a beta 3 yrs, now on a 22 gasgas, agreed with the tractable forgiving feel of the beta, the tpi can be aggressive needing a quick clutch, my suspension requirement is a compliant fork for descending big step offs

All the bikes you tested had Linkage so im guessing thats your favourite but here in Australia we get the ktm exc’s with pds and Im wondering if you think the more vertical design of linkage would assist with Hard Enduro Techniques? Great input, Rich! I’ve found going from Yamaha to ktms and huskies to sherco that my favorite bike really is just whatever one I’m riding. Same goes for MX bikes and off-road 4-strokes Quality video 🤙

I have no doubt the 2022 beta racing will be even better suited for you! Adjustable diaphragm clutch (softer pull and less wear and tear), new engine (more linear and usable power), and new suspension valving will make it a beast.

At my experience level the coolest color is the best bike which is blue. It used to be yellow then green then red. I do know the difference in 2t and 4t but just barely and I've been riding for 38 years recreationally.
What’s your thoughts on the (I think awful) vibration through pegs bars on the 300RR that wasn’t mentioned? I thought they had counter shafts now? I road a clapped out gas gas 300 for 4 days on an enduro holiday and was more comfy at the end than 2hrs on my beta 23 300rr, im seriously considering a swap to a bog standard gas gas ec 300so I’m more comfy on long enduro days and happy to work the clutch more & I found that sachs shock and ZF fork even orvs valves and bladder kit still doesn’t soak up any chop or big hits I’ve had several people set it up and still so harsh, on the topic of clutch yes the beta it’s a brembo but my husky mx brembo feels miles better especially on clutch pull, so confused on what to do

Clutch is everything in Hard Enduro. KTM has the best and most durable clutch. KTM Wins! Still never ridden a Modern Sherco and want to know if they have a more Trials feel like everyone says
Would've liked a bigger comparison. The KTM brands are too similar for me to matter. I would've been more interested in adding independent brands to the comparison like Kawasaki, Honda or Suzuki, or Rieju or whatever else there possibly is.
Off topic, in some of that footage, you dab when doing some climbs, or after some obstacles. Is that just "when you lose balance you do what you gotta", or is there planning that goes into it?

Beta a good low down lug, But what isn’t mentioned is that horrible frame pegs, bar vibrations form the beta i can’t escape, hand numbing on a cold wet enduro day, I have a 23 300rr the suspension even re valved and bladder kit isn’t soaking any big whoops or small chop in the rough enduros I ride to couples with the vibration is I’d personally rather be comfy and work the clutch better I’m looking swap to a 300 gas gas

I’ve gone from a Husqvarna 300 tpi to a 22 beta 200 racing 😜 would love to see your thoughts on that bike! You would be seriously suprised at how it lugs and how easy it is to through around
How you finding the beta? I just sold my TE300I and looking to get the 200 racing but not sure if I should get a 250? There are no ride days here in Australia for a while so I am going to have to role the dice, All the boys in the crew are on KTM's but I fancy a beta this time round as I had a beta trials bike and loved it!

That's ironic because the importer was talking about how they have parts stocked up on shelf ready to be delivered. Very little wait time, just another sales gimmick I guess. Bummer because the Sherco is the bike I was thinking to get.
I have a Sherco, never had problems getting parts. I'm in the midwest, there's a few dealers around that I can call and have parts at my door in a few days. 120 hrs on the stock clutch, but I don't abuse it like this guy lol
@TS50ER sorry for the late reply, I've had literally no problems with my bike and it's been raced for about a year now. I've put it through hell and had no problems
I have both Sherco and Beta. Sherco 70 hours, Beta 40 hours. Sherco no issues so far, Beta 4 major issues already. Reliability-wise, I do not recommend Beta.
What happened to the Beta? I have 2021 model still on 1st piston and just over 90hours with no issues and like the bike ?? I did buy a KTM 300 and prefer the ergos vs the beta (beta nicer power delivery Though)
