It took a long time before WHAT THE DEAF MAN HEARD was finally released on DVD. Whew... another good one from him. This looks to be good instead of the gosh-awful 'make him a villain' attempts (er, Transporter 2 or 3 - whatever it was).
A LBS owner in Greenfield Ma, comically renowned as Bicycle Bob, and I used to laugh every day at how fortunate we were to have discovered the joy of swinging our leg over a toptube. Doing so turned us into the happy 8 year-olds we remembered before all the grownup responsibilities, burdens, frustrations and complications of adulthood. For almost 30 years we smiled, laughed and "weeeeeee'd" (on the descents, at least) our way through life. I miss him very much (cancer!).
A lot of people think cycling is just a physical thing but it is not, it is a very mental thing as well. If you are mentally strong then you can take everything cycling throws at you, one peddle at a time :)
I worked for this program in another state for a couple years. I'd probably still be there if I didn't have a family of my own to take care of now. They do great work and the kids usually have a pretty good time as long as they stay out of trouble.
I really love the film Hard Miles because it is very inspiring, touching, and has a funny twist to it. All in all, this film is great for family movie night. The film’s message is ‘never stop something until you finish it.’”
The fact that there's actually space to ride a bicycle across 3 States in the car centric US without getting hit by a truck should be a movie in and of itself
@@killerb5726 Wow. You're the problem without even realizing it. Hint: you can have an environment like the US with wide open spaces and still own a car, but not be car-centric.
Forget highschool football programs... This country would be far better off is high schools had mandatory cycling programs. Riding a bike is truly one of the great life experiences a human can have. It's also something every single student can do, unlike football, where only +/-30 kids get to actually be on the team. And people can cycle their whole life, unlike football, where (at best) you'll be in a bar 'remembering the good ol days' 30 years later.
I know a former principal of a school, after finding out a large percentage of kids didn't know how to ride a bike, got a grant and got donated bikes (from a good company), it was part of PE. But hard to scale with school budgets.
@@bikebudha01 Not denying the cost of football (not to mention, cost to young people's brains). But the field would have been put in place when government funded public schools better, whereas the bike project was new, in an area controlled by teacher-hating, education-disdaining republicans.
I did that with a youth program in 1988. The miles on the road weren't as meaningfull as the nightly therapy groups. The who completed the entire journey without sag support joined me on a one day hike to the bottom of the canyon and back up to the top. I wonder where those kids are today...
Good movie. I would have liked to see this as a mini-series instead with like 21 50-minute episodes. That would have allowed much more character depth and such. Here's one other concern though : if Modine's character truly had a nerve disorder that caused extreme pain when stretching, AND his Dad knew of this, AND his Dad still made him stretch then IMHO this was not a Dad worth visiting upon his death bed. Not only that but his Dad never apologizes when he shows up. I FULLY disagree that going to his death bed would be of any value unless he knew his Dad had a full change of heart regarding abuse. Forgiveness is also about a change of heart by the party being forgiven but that was not emphasized here. That aside, the journey and all they went through was inspiring. It just needed much more development than 2 hours could lend. Modine is a very good actor. Still adore him in Gross Anatomy.
Birdy (1984) Matthew Modine & Nick Cage. THAT was my first Modine performance & I've been booked ever since. Watch that movie & you'll see why he's been doing it for 5 decades. Fun fact, another performance as a baddie is Gordon Rickett on L&O:SVU S:6 E:17 "Rage"... First time I saw him as a bad guy. Hated it bc he'd always been so sweet & loved it bc he was so good at being a Sociopath/Psychopath. Another outstanding performance is Pvt Joker in Full Metal Jacket (1987)
Looks good. Like they said in the Netflix Tour De France documentary: Cycling is about suffering, if you're not suffering, find another sport" ( they actually said job) in the documentary. These kids look like they will suffer.
The boys on bicycles, conquering the outdoors - the Motivator/Coach has a "high tolerance" for pain☺ So, will they, or won't they "fall apart" - based on a true story - so, guessing 'not' but...
I did see both. "Hard Miles" is a movie about civilizing monsters./// "Sasquatch Sunrise" is about Monsters not needing civilizing sliding down the Darwinian curve to extinction.
Oh buTTbuTTer my gluteus maximus. I can't understand how any human, especially men, can venture out beyond what that seat is doing to them. They almost split me in half. Can't they just be flat across so pumping hard, you just lean-up against them and have firm ability to push off? Then swivel a little and so they go flat, so you can just sit. I don't believe they were designed for any known terrestrial form of life.
Seems like a great story in real life, but the movie hits every cliche trope possible. Good message, but hard to have a single original aspect to a human interest story for anyone who has much life experience or has seen similar such movies of a group of misfits coming together as they face a challenge.
