Since I used the Warrior to semi tank King of Light (his spin attack at least), I wanted to give him a fight where he actually dodged everything, and also to flex his DPS potential. I figured why not Electro Worm again? Should be an interesting fight, if not at least a fast one (much faster than I thought possible).
Only… this was A LOT faster than I expected. Both my Rogue and my Warrior used their Relic Defense Hard Mode weapon drop (Sickles of the Purest Loathing for Rogue and Axe of the Lone Archfiend for Warrior), but despite both having a base power of 208, and despite Sickles of the Purest Loathing being Earth element (which Electro Worm is weak to), the Warrior with the Axe of the Lone Archfiend completely knocks it out of the park. There’s just no comparison.
Which is funny, since Rogue is supposed to be the DPS glass cannon. Warrior is much tankier and still has more DPS. The one thing Rogue has is that his attacks generally have less/no knockback, which is a desired trait since knockback makes your attacks whiff and forces you to chase enemies down. I’m not a fan of the Warrior’s Sword knockback at all.
Anyway there you have it - all the Hard Mode bosses! Did they feel like they belonged in this game compared to… the rest of the game? No? It’s a shame really, because they absolutely could be made to feel more fitting in Portal Knights, and a lot more accessible/possible for weaker builds.
For Electro Worm, they could just make it so his tails either don’t go underground at all, or at least so that they don’t regain all their HP when they do go underground. That’s just ridiculous. Also wouldn’t hurt if the minion Maggots disappeared when the Electro Worm got stunned, so they couldn’t get in the way of you attacking his head.
For Arctic Dragon Countess, there needs to be a limit to how many Saurians can be out at a time. If your DPS isn’t super high, they can build up fast, and potentially have you stuck fighting them forever. Also her breath attack after waking up from being stunned needs to go. Undodgable isnta-kill BS like that is lazy and poor design. She should do a sweep with it and force you to jump over it, without needing consumables to avoid .t.
For King of Light, his spin attack needs to be reasonable avoidable with rolling, just like Hollow King. Also it should be that he doesn’t get stunned and become vulnerable until both the crystals AND his minions are all destroyed. That way you’re not stuck fighting the last minion while King of Light is vulnerable and wasting your precious time to attack him.
Simple fixes that they probably won’t do. Oh well.
