I just fixed my damn truck because of this video !!!!! I have been wrenching for fifty years and have replaced mayby 2 steering ujoints in all that time, and it was because of looseness not binding. So I'm very glad I saw ur vid. Thanks guys! Well done!
Had the same problem on condor sterling trash truck..grease fitting is in a narrow area...guys couldn't fit standard size grease gun tip to lube..had to get narrow tip to lube...I soaked the ujoint in atf and gear oil...lubed ujoint..and reinstalled shaft...works great now..good video....I found out the hard way..I ordered gear box and found knuckle seized when I removed shaft from gear box..I spent the whole day lubing the ujoints on our whole fleet of trash trucks..
Had my power steering going out on the Mack I was driving. The PS cooler had a hole rubbed in it from bouncing around so much. That was a fun drive to the shop.
I just fixed my damn truck because of this video !!!!! I bought the gear box and pump and the problem persist. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ almost 2k going down the drain
I just figured out last night my top U-joint was binding on my 2010 Peterbilt 387. Thought I had air in my PS fluid so I jacked up the truck and ran the wheel hard left to right. Noticed that the binding was every half turn of the wheel. Sprayed WD-40 on the top (rusty) joint and it turns smooth now. No grease fittings so they are likely the originals. Was searching for info on the U-joints and found this video.
DUDE. Please make a detailed video about how the steering components work, and common problems to look for. I know some problems and defects are obviously, but the FMSCA and schools do a shit job of educating us on the details. My truck has 510k, tight steering, decent power steering power, a greased fifth wheel, tight u-bolts on all axles, and no *obvious* steering linkage defects, but it has become an absolute chore to keep it between the lines. HELP
@@everdream741 actually figured it out, I had our mechanic tighten the fifth wheel since my company uses those cheap shitty Holland fifth wheels with the rotating locking jaws... apparently, it was loose enough, that the king pin was moving freely side to side... drove like a dream after they tightened it

Great video my friend. With my truck when the vehicle is in motion and moving through a yard no issues with steering no skipping no binding, nothing when I was trying to Jack knife the other day in a stopped position it was stiff I had to give it some throttle to move it. What could that be. When I opened the power steering steering reservoir it was a bit warm and a little bit of smoke was coming. Keep in mind I was trying to Jack knife in a spot. Keep in mind. I was trying to jack knife into a very tight spot for around thirty or forty minutes so we were overworking the steering. I notice sneaker trucks are more stiffer than daycabs is this true as well. The truck is two thousand and seven by the way
I would LOVE for someone with this type of knowledge to work on my truck. So DISGUSTED with the white shirt mechanics that fix NOTHING and take THOUSANDS.. tell you there's NOTHING WRONG! My exhaust fell apart. We LIVE and BREATHE in here. They go home to nice CLEAN BEDS AND HOUSES! THEY'RE KILLING PPL with NO RECOURSE for MONEY! I'm a company driver. Started working on my own truck. At least I know I can wake up in the morning.
Ok, I was really paying attention, but I didn’t hear how you resolved the problem. Was it on a Volvo? Did you replace the u joint or did you get a new steering shaft for the truck? Was it a sealed u joint originally and you replaced it with a serviceable one? I’m not a big fan of Volvos anyway. I check that steering on any and everything I drive, especially if it’s an older truck. Ok, I watched it a 3rd time...it is a Volvo.
Porter Productions sorry it wasn't clear for you. We just replaced it with a new one. We have used parts in stock so we just swapped it but I should do a better job explaining it.Thank you for your feedback
I went to an auction and the volvo looks very clean and as soon I turn the steering sounds like if it's need more fluid and I check and the meters was full but the steering really annoying. Can some help me out please!!
