Hard To Beat Topping's Best A70 Pro Pre-HPA Review

Should get this in the mail tomorrow. Paid $434 during the spring sale. My system will then be my smsl su1 dac going rca into the a70pro going xlr into the fosi za3 going canare 4s11 bi wire into emotiva xb2's until i upgrade to the geshelli 4499 dac. use is on my desk.

I had an original Topping A90 that I took out of my audio chain because I prefered the headphone output on the integrated amp that it was feeding, a Keces E40. The A90 sounded sterile compared to the Keces. And the A90 did not add anything as a preamp. I've been on the lookout for a replacement. Burson doesn't have a dedicated HPA/preamp in my price range. I wonder if the A70 Pro is what I'm looking for. My current DAC is the Ladder Schuman. I also have the original Topping D90.

Hi, Looking for Pre amp for the Stereo system, currently using SMSL su-9 pro dac, Need suggestion over Topping A70pro or Topping Pre90 as pre amp technical difference and sound quality.

Would the a70 and d70 pro combo be a good combination coming from the hifiman ef 400? Looking for something to drive the Susvara but also sound good! but don’t wanna pay 2000 our 3000 dollars to do so Thanks

The sound is very, very good, maybe the best I have heard in a clip you've made. Get rid of that ridiculously overpriced Accuphase hahaha!

Would you use the a70pro as a dedicated preamp for a normal class a power amp to drive speakers or would a conventional pre amp be better, i dont really need the headphone section

Hi Tharbamar, thank you for the review. I'm currently using a SMSL SU-9n DAC and looking for an upgrade. What would be the best sounding DAC out of these? SMSL SU-10 / SU-9Pro / D300 / D400EX / TOPPING D90LE / A70 Pro. Would it be a substantial upgrade or should I go for something like GUSTARD A26 / R26 ?

Would the e70 velvet be a solid option to pair with the a70 pro since I don’t feel like wasting $700 on the d70 pro I was planning on hooking up focal twin evo active monitors to this combo? Or should I spend 100 more and get pre90 for preamp?

Hi Tharbamar, thank you for the awesome review. I was wondering if, with the A70 pro I'd be able to use the xlr out in a passive way, without powering on the amplifier. I already do something similar with unbalanced RCA, with a Topping E30 and a Topping L50 (which have passive passthrough RCA). This allow me to connect E30 to L50, than L50 to my studio monitor and, once I power on the L50, I can just hear the sound from the headphone output. Hope this makes sense.

How would I connect this to a subwoofer that only has 1 LFE input? Mine is the SVS SB300.

I'm using the Topping Pre90, which was the "giant killer" when I was looking for a preamp to use with my LA90 amp. Do you think this will offer better performance than the Pre90?
