Hardcore History Ep68 - (BLITZ) Human Resources

The Atlantic Slave Trade mixes centuries of human bondage with violence, economics, commerce, geo-political competition, liberty, morality, injustice, revolution, tragedy and bloody reckonings. That sounds like a lot, yet this show merely scratches the surface of this enormous subject.

Dan, you should seriously consider doing a deep dive on piracy. That'd be kinda cool.
@b.griffin317
@b.griffin317 2 года назад
Piracy has been different things in different eras. The 16th-18th century era was about competing empires and the british/dutch/french trying to piggy-back on the empires of spain/portugal. Roman-era mediterranean piracy was mostly about "mauroons" and refuges of runaway slaves or other holdouts from roman imperialism.

@4strokes
@4strokes 2 года назад
@Black Lesbian Poet How do you know the Freemasons aren’t the “good guys”? Very simply, you don’t know. I do however expect you are capable of some pretty extreme mental contortions in an attempt to offer “evidence” as proof you are absolutely correct. You want there to be some group with a plan out there pulling strings because you want the chaos of humanity and life to have order and follow a plan. In addition, I suspect you have certain personality traits that lead you to believe you are one of the “special people” who can “see the truth”. There are other people who claim it’s Jews, aliens, the Illuminati, the Catholic Church, Democrats, Republicans, communists, socialist or any number of groups that are “in charge”. Your particular boogeyman seems to be the Freemasons. I’ll welcome your response where you claim I’m a “sheep”, stupid, ignorant, uneducated or am “indoctrinated” as you ask me to “do my own research”.

You can not truly learn from history if you negate the taboo subjects. Thank you, Dan, for going against the grain and not straying away from this.
@AQuietNight

You have negation taking place by limiting the subject to just one time period and location. We still have war so your theory on learning from history has been negated as well. Keep in mind learning from history has kept many groups carrying on conflict for decades if not centuries.

@@CPLRedmond "but you’re on the right step of developing the understand of what might be next" I do not think that is happening either. My prime point was the slave trade discussion is usually limited to the Atlantic when it was a worldwide thing done for thousands of years. The only new thing the Europeans added was the ability to do it on a production line basis over a sustained period. Slavery was always brutal and so bad in the Old Testament God pronounced laws to protect slaves from abusive behavior.

@@Dimitris_Balf Slavery has been discussed. And discussed. And discussed. It is not some well hidden secret. The constant discussion of slavery hasn't helped Blacks but conditions them to be seen as some sort of cosmic losers. Every failure is because of 400 years of slavery, not lack of other qualities that insure success. We are down to the point you can not even expect them to master grammar, no doubt a by product of slavery. The obsession with slavery insures the success of failure.

I started this episode on the podcast feed earlier today. I love your nuanced approach. This subject seems to get painted with an ever narrowing brush these days. It’s nice to hear a balanced approach that isn’t “white man bad” vs slavery apologists. If you make everyone a bit aggravated at something you say and also have everyone find something they agree with you’re probably on the right track.

Separating out the transatlantic slave trade from the history of slavery in general will create a political view. It is like discussing the war in Ukraine right now. Many people have said Ukraine is at fault unaware of the wars and incidents that proceeded the current conflict.

This is a great episode and I'd love to hear another on the decline and abolition of slavery, particularly with regards to Britain's leading the way to end the Atlantic slave trade. One correction though: Desaline (I don't know how it's spelled) genocided all French whites, not all whites. There were, famously, Polish conscripts sent to Saint Dominge by Napoleon who switched sides and fought under the command of Desaline and others like him. They weren't touched in the genocide, their descendants are still in Haiti. Other non-French whites were also left alone. That said, those enacting the genocide on the ground weren't always so discerning in who they targeted.
