From one gardener to another, tomato plants need lots of sun and Google says not to water them too often, but trust your gut and watch your plant. They are each different. Also as your plant gets bigger you are going to want to take a dowel or a stick and tie your tomato plant to it to keep it upright. Tomato plants struggle to support themselves. Also be patient with yourself. Good luck! Also loving the videos!

Dear Gem, Calcium is very good (and kind of necessary) for tomato plants. My family saves eggshells that we use, toast them up in the oven, and crush them down to give to the tomatoes. If that sounds like too much work, I'm sure you can find some online. We also give them old milk that we don't want to drink in a watering can. These are just little tips to keep your plants going strong. Have fun!!!

Honestly, the "starter build palette" can give an area character! It helps you remember different eras of your world's history, and gives visual contrast as you travel from place to place. I actually prefer to progress from one palette to another, maybe incorporating one or two components of the previous palette to add cohesion. It gives story to my world : )

A tip for tomato gardens 🍅 Pick your tomato’s early or when they are still sort of green. Then let them sit on your counter to continue to ripen. This will help you get tomato’s without bugs. If you leave them outside until they get red then there is a bigger chance of bugs and rotting. 😊 hope that helped! Love your channel btw❤

I was very excited to share some tomato tips with you! I'm actually studying horticulture at University right now, so this is right up my alley! Tomatoes are going to need a strong trellis, try and set up wooden stakes with string (they usually sell tomato twine at hardware stores, and don't use fishing wire as it will wound the stems. Regular twine works just fine as well!) if you have multiple plants in a row - that's the best way to hold them up. You want to put your first string when the plant isn't able to hold itself up or it starts to lodge over; you want them to stand up straight and not touch the ground to avoid diseases and pests. Once they grow above the last string you placed, put another string (around every 6 inches or so). If they're heirloom tomatoes, they're going to be very vigorous and you're probably going to have to prune them back every once in a while or else they'll take over the whole garden. Heirloom tomatoes also have a tendency to have large clusters of flowers, meaning they'll produce smaller fruit really close together and makes the tomatoes rub against each other, which promotes wounding and splitting (aka not good). I would suggest keeping flower clusters to 4-5 at the maximum, cherry tomatoes and slicing tomatoes are bred to have this and you won't need to thin them out. That will make sure you get good sized tomatoes and good quality. Also, you might get sticky black gunk all over your fingers if you're working on them for a while - that's normal! It's just the pollen and it's all over the plant. Also, you can absolutely let tomatoes ripen on the vine (some people say they taste better that way) but you can also pick them off when they're still hard and green and they'll continue to ripen off the vine (this is called climacteric fruits, and it's how we get tomatoes across the country from California and bananas from South America perfectly ripe! They're usually harvested when they're rock solid and bright green). And try not to leave tomatoes on the plant when they're ripe when it's going to rain - this causes the tomatoes to split and then they're no good, and it also promotes diseases and pests (like mold, cucumber beetles, powdery mildew, etc.). Calcium is also really important for tomatoes because it helps to grow the skin of the fruit. Calcium deficiency causes blossom end rot, which is yucky and not fun. Most potting soils will have a good amount of calcium in it, but grinding eggshells and mixing them into the soil will certainly do the trick to avoid blossom end rot. Also, watch out for tomato horn worms - they can easily destroy an entire plant easily. Sorry, I kind of rambled here, I'm just a giant plant dork :) Peppers are also one of my favorite things ever so if you need tips for those, I'd be happy to share! - Hope this helps and good luck with your little garden! I could rant on and on about the cucumbers as well, but I'll save you haha. Love your videos!
@RryhhbfrHhgdHhgd356
@RryhhbfrHhgdHhgd356 11 месяцев назад
Yeah. Definitely avoid mildew and mold. In my experience with a lot of the fungi that attack tomatoes, once they are infected all the land for acres around is useless for growing them for years. Freaking stinks.

I'm growing cucumbers and would love an info dump from you if you have the time, energy, and desire! Thanks for sharing so many tidbits on tomatoes :)
@jessicasutter5246
@jessicasutter5246 11 месяцев назад
@@neurodivergentlily Of course, plants are my favorite!! So, with cucumbers, they are a naturally vining plant (unlike tomatoes) so they are going to need a tall trellis - some varieties can get up to around 5-6 feet tall. People also let cucumbers to vine horizontally along the ground, but I don't recommend this because it makes the plants more susceptible to disease and pests and when cucumbers start to grow, it makes them susceptible to disease and mold (especially when the soil is damp). You can usually let the cucumbers grow for a little while until you need to start training them on a trellis, but vines can get messy very easily so make sure they aren't wrapping around each other because that can suffocate the plant. It also makes it a million times easier to harvest and see the fruit in general, as when it's grown without a trellis, you have to pick the vines up to try and find the cucumbers and it's a pain. I would maybe use something a little stronger than wooden stakes (use metal if you have it) because when the cucumbers start to come in, they're very heavy and hard to hold up. You can also use twine to trellis them like tomatoes, or having some sort of mesh/fencing pattern would also be good. I would say putting a new string every 4 inches should be adequate to make sure the apical tendril will be able to reach from the previous one. Sometimes when the vines are young, you have to use clips to make sure they're being trained on the trellis the way you want them - make sure they're growing generally upwards. Pickling cucumbers will be a bit smaller, so wooden stakes to hold them up will be fine, maybe a new stake every two or three plants. Slicing cucumbers will be much heavier and will most likely need a new wooden stake every two plants or between each plant if you have enough room (you can probably do every three plants with metal stakes. Most cucumbers will start out growing with black spikes on them, and the best way to know when they've reached a good size is if the skin is relatively smooth and/or the black spikes come off when you slide your hand across it. They'll also be a good cylindrical shape - before cucumbers are ripe, they tend to be sunken in on the sides a little bit. If you're going for pickling cucumbers, feel free to pick them off when they're at the size you want, but most pickling varieties will grow to a dwarfed size (except for gherkin pickling cucumbers - those are literally just un-fully-ripened pickling cucumbers so you can pick them off whenever you want). Also, I forgot to say this for the tomatoes, but only water once the soil surface and first few inches get dry. This will prevent mold, weeds, diseases, fungal gnats, rotting, etc. And make sure to put them up on a trellis before they get to big as they're a pain to untangle - trust me, I've had PAINFUL days at work doing that and wanting to just rip the whole plant out haha. Watch out for cucumber beetles when the plants are young because it can really destroy the foliage, but they don't make much of an impact once the plant it already mature. I once again rambled, but I hope this helps a bit!

@@jessicasutter5246 omg you just answered so many questions I've had about my cucumbers THANK YOU I got a cabbage looper in my garden, unfortunately, so it's been getting at all my plants lately, but i see my issue is that everything is on the ground, where the plants can be easily reached! Then, we can't forget the fact that my metal... I don't think it's a trellis, but it's a metal garden stand for vining plants.... @lando_pando

This isn’t tomato advice, but for the peppers, just make sure you you don’t let them stay outside too long because they will rot from the heat and sun. Pick the individual peppers off the plant as they finish growing and ripen and your plant will continue to grow peppers all throughout the season. Also, you might want to put a small rod or something next to the pepper plants in their early stages of development but you’ll be able to remove it when they grow a little bit because pepper plants will grow very thick and strong. And keep the seeds to replant them next year! 😊 7:38

Hi Gem! I love your videos, I’ve been struggling a lot with my life for awhile , and you always manage to make things a bit easier for me. I love the theme of this village, it’s giving a lot of ice cream vibes! Make sure your tomatoes get a lot of sunlight, tomatoes are the happiest when they get lots of sun, plant them in a bright spot that doesn’t get too much shade! Watering them consistently will also help, though don’t overwater them, make sure if you’re using pots that the water drains through the soil. Tomatoes aren’t very needy, but you can prune them, removing the smaller stems, dead, and damaged leaves helps them grow nice and healthy. I hope this helps even just a little. Thank you, Gem.

Tip for your tomatos pick the suckers of *the stems that grow in the middle of 2 other stems* It takes away energy from the main stem then the tomatos grow slower. also water near the stem if you water straight on to the leaves it can give the plant a disease *Late blight* rain water is fine it wont hurt also use a stick or theres cages for the tomatos to support them selves Good luck with your tomatos you also shoud give us updates on them in your communiy tab that woud be pretty cool but thats up to you

My mom has grown tomatoes in her garden for years and she tends to plant marigolds in between each plant. Not much of a gardener myself but I think it helps with soil quality and weed growth.

I love how the village is turning out, also when it come to your tomatoes make sure they have plenty of sunlight and not to over water them, if your worried about nutrients try saving your egg shells and grinding/breaking them up to use them as fertilizer, it better to grind them so you can distribute them more easily.

Building out of stripped birch and stripped cherry makes all the houses look like they're made out of marshmallows and it's awesome

I always love your content since you make it so much more accessible. I'm a relative N00b at MC, only starting a year ago, and some creators get into jargon or "Jedi hand wave" too heavily. Your content is much easier to follow and understand. Makes me feel like I can do this without needing an AP level course.

I definitely have a tomato care tip for you: keep them from the rain and water them from below, aka water in the pot but not on the plant itself. Also putting water into the little dish under your drainable pot helps. Ours take each a liter of water a day when they are completely matured. They really need more water than you'd think. That should help you to get a great harvest. I think I've read everything else in the comment section already. Thanks for the wonderful minespiration btw

tomatoes LOVE coffee grounds. tea bags work as well in a pinch! just cut the used bag open and sprinkle it in the garden! (this works for blueberries too!!)

Tomato plant advice: when your plants grow to be at least 1- 1 1/2 feet tall take off the bottom most leaves (but not to many) this helps the plant focus more on the top leaves and fruit for nutrients and less in the ones that don't need it

This was such a good episode! the amount you got done was staggering, but so satisfying to watch. I love the pink and purple vibes you've gone for, especially in the enchanting area they come together so well. And you're right about the gradient between magenta wood and the cherry bark. I wish there was a light green wood and a white wood in the game, because they could have made for such great potential compliments to the pink cherry wood, and made for interesting combinations! The village is coming together beautifully, I always love to see the way you transform villages and the way you work with and around villagers, you're like the villager whisperer! xD

For tomatoes, when the branches get long enough, move them to the next bar on the cage to help them grow straight.
