Hardscape lighting is a must-have on any hardscape project that allows for it. Retaining walls, steps, and features should all have these lights for the aesthetic appeal and the functionality. These allow your client to use their space well into the evening which is most likely the time that they would be using their outdoor space.
This part of our hardscape business is the most profitable and provides the greatest return to our clients making it something we offer on every single project. This along with their ease of installation, hardscape lighting is a no-brainer.

Good video. Just subscribed! Might be a dumb question, not sure but just want to confirm, - Where does the transformer get power from?
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper 9 месяцев назад
thank you! Transformer needs to be plugged into a GFI Outlet

Your videos are really helpful. My question is about the gator base which is a bit off of this video. Can we build seating wall and patio on gator based paver patio ?
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper 2 года назад
Yes, you can build a maximum 18" seat wall on top of Gator Base.

Great work, thank you for the video. I was interested to know why you use 12 gauge wire?
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper 2 года назад
It is just the perfect size to stock rather than stocking multiple different sizes. 12 seems to be the number that is most used in my runs based on the length and number of fixtures.

@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper Месяц назад
No they need a transformer so that they are low voltage. Otherwise you need an electrician

Great video. I want to do about 110 feet total of strip lighting. There are two 40 foot retaining walls and several steps where I want lighting under the wall caps and stair treads. Can you recommend a product? There’s a lot of stuff on Amazon and I am a little leery about them. I don’t want it to break down in a year!

I’d visit your local landscape supplier and see what they have available. I use Inlite or Kichler myself

I would search for in-lite. On their website you can find a dealer near you. These specific lights in this video are Kichler.

Looks lovely! Do you use conduits when running cables under pavers (with 3/4” clear base) or it’s okay to just run them?

Nice video, how do you get the lights to only turn on during night time and off during the day ?
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper 2 года назад
You can use a photocell timer, dial timer, or a wireless timer that pairs with your phone.

Are you gluing or mortaring them in? What happens when they fail?
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper 10 месяцев назад
They have a small bead of glue. Caps get removed to get at the lights to fix them. Though there is one fixture that has a removable bulb by WAC

I want to install this lighting on a wood burning firepit. The pit will be 6' long 40" wide. Do you think two 8" lights on 6' side & one on each end would be sufficient?
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper 2 года назад
Unfortunately you can’t install lighting in a wood burning fire pit. It will melt the wires

What happens when the lights go bad How do we replace

Need to pull up the cap and replace. There are some fixtures on the market that you can just pull the fixture out

For a 40 foot run of wall with 18" blocks - what's your recommendation for size of lights (looks like they come in 7 and 12" variants) and spacing? Any brand recommendation for the hardscape lights?
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper Год назад
I would probably go 5 x 7" lights. Do 4' before the first fixture, then 8' between each of the fixtures, and then 4' at the end. It is personal preference, but I prefer more fixtures that are smaller than less fixtures that are larger.

How do you get the capstone to sit flush with the capstone next to it? Won't the extra thickness of the fixture mounting plate cause the capstone to not be flush with the rest?
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper 2 года назад
You can grind down the area where the mounting plate will sit on the retaining wall or shim the backs of the retaining wall for the cap to sit flush. The plate itself is 1/16” I believe.

Does the wiring inside the fire pit not melt from the heat?
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper 2 года назад
The wiring runs up the core of the wall units, so it is protected from the heat.
@DMaTTh32

@I Am a Hardscaper Are all of your wire connects inside the wall too? So there's no wire inside the firepit at all? Thanks for the video!

So does every new zone need to go to it’s own connection in the transformer? I am installing this lights under my deck stairs, but I want to add more lights in the future using the same transformer.
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper Год назад
Yes, one of each zone goes into the common and one of each zone goes into its own connection.

@@iamahardscaper thx! I have 2 sets of stairs on my deck. Should I start my main run from the far side, then over the the next set of stairs? Will I need to run the main down to the last step, then back up to the transformer? I don’t see any other way if I want them on the same zone

Is it too late to install if caps are already installed?
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper Год назад
You would have to remove the caps (sometimes they chip if theyre glued) and grind down or remove the glue, and then install the lights and re-glue the caps.

@iamahardscaper

Are they steps with caps on? You’d have to remove the caps and install them. If they are one piece steps you can’t.
