This has to be one of the most beautiful and inspiring projects on RU-vid. I want to rush out and buy a 3d printer, laser cutter, and all the materials to make this creation. Thank you so much for sharing this. You have another sub from me.

Nice take on the 1970's infinity table's and wall mirror's. They were cool back then and even moved with the beat. I made the table in woodshop back in high school.

Great video as always One thing: an easy way to solder, that gives the same amount of solder, is to "cut the solder" by the ion, and press the somer to the pad/component leg in a sliding motion. A bigger tip on the soldering ion is a plus too. Great project by the way 👏 Thanks for sharing your project with all of us 👍
@perwestermark8920
@perwestermark8920 Год назад
Yes the tip was a bit too small for the task. Too small tip makes soldering a pain. Just as having "supersonic" solder (i.e. too thin so you need a very long piece for each solder point)

@@HariWiguna And thanks for the video! It was a magnificent project, you clearly put a lot of thought and effort into the design. This is really cool! It looks like it's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside, really mind-bending. You did a great job showing the assembly and troubleshooting process. I also like your technique for getting the LEDs onto the PCBs by just sprinkling them on :) A few tips/ideas: Is it possible to make the "full of stars" a bit more random? From some angles you can see the repeating ring as the dots travel around. Maybe you could vary the speed or direction somehow? Or have some of the dots fade in and out or change color? Pan/move the camera just a little more while filming - it really highlights the 3d effect. If you could have the dodecahedron rotate automatically, that might look cool, though I'm not how you'd power it.
@HariWiguna
@HariWiguna Год назад
Hah, I wonder how people would react to that joke. Making the full of stars more random is a great idea! Believe it or not, I had the same rotating idea but could not figure out how to hide the wires. Thx for the constructive comment!

This is truly amazing ! What a beautiful result. The "Full-of-stars" mode is a winner ! I want one ! Will you publish your manufacturing files, or maybe, even, produce some kits to sell ? I would definitively buy one ! 👍👍👍
@HariWiguna
@HariWiguna Год назад
Thanks David! Yeah, the full of stars is completely unexpected. All the other patterns are cool, but predictable. The full of stars is not random, but surely looks like it. My favorite too. Because the current dodecahedron is not yet easy to assemble, I'd rather not share the files yet. I'm working on an improved version based on what I've learned. If you're impatient and would like the current files, email me. Otherwise, hopefully the next version is actually easy to build. Yes, I plan on making the plans available (for free) and also sell kits. Thank you for confirming demand for kits.

Thanks Alan! I think I saw Adam's version. IIRC it has less faces, thus the reflections are not as intricate. Because the current dodecahedron is not yet easy to assemble, I'd rather not share the files yet. I'm working on an improved version based on what I've learned. If you're impatient and would like the current files, email me. Otherwise, hopefully the next version is actually easy to build. I plan on making the plans available (for free) and also sell kits.

Design an assembly jig made from precision cut pieces of PCB material that slot together in such a way they can't go together at the wrong angle.
@HariWiguna
@HariWiguna Год назад
That's a great idea too! Surprisingly the 3D printed jig works well. I would have thought that the PLA would melt due to the solder temperatures, but it didn't. Since I have a 3D printer, making the 3D printed jig was easier and faster than a PCB version. But without a 3D printer, your PCB jig idea is brilliant!

@HariWiguna Год назад
Thanks. Unfortunately, I do not have a set of working files. The one I shared in the video had errors that I had to fix by cutting traces. Also as I mention in the video, it's not really easy to make. You might be better off using pre-soldered LED strips. You could find many other people that have done that. Also check Instructables.com for actual step by step instructions.

@@HariWiguna Good to see you're still alive! In these times of covid it can be hard to tell when someone drops off the face of the internet for a year, never know what happened! I started work in printing a frame jig since I decided I wanted it to be bigger with aluminum angle bracket as the frame and then ordered a bulk order of LED strips but a porch pirate got to them before I did so I'm trying to decide if I want to invest more effort and money into the project or just turn it into an LED-less piece of decor and sell it on Marketplace or something to recoup the lost money
