Each and every version of this song is glorious, as an Indonesian Christian, we have Indonesian version of this song, it's called " Gita Sorga Bergema" the lyrics are a bit differrent from the original one, the Indonesian not only tells about the birth of christ, but also put a deeper emphasis on the eventual sacrufice of the Christ, honestly, you should see it, it's really good In our highly diverse state, even though majority of our fellow brethren are muslims, Christmas here is still as joyous as ever, i just got congratulated by my muslim friends.
@@MusicismoreImportantchristians and other minorities often support israel such as myself here in indonesia Because the muslims aint that friendly to us and they listen to their imams more than to real history 😂
My favourite Christmas carol. My brother sings in an oratory choir, and when I went to mass, we absolutely belted this one out. Merry Christmas everyone! Whether you're Catholic like me, Protestant like my father, or anything else, today is a day when we can all agree to celebrate and be joyful (except the Puritans they... hate fun for... some reason /hj)

The word Britain ironically comes from the Welsh language not English....meaning land of painted ones ... In honour of the native pre-roman Celts like the Picts.... A downtrodden oppressed language in which children were beaten for speaking it in Britain until the 1940s
Seeing the dead English empire flag plastered all over Celtic Britain made my stomach churn. 2024.... Year of the native British Celtic revival. Celt an byth

But is it English? ... The tune is by Mendelssohn who was German! But I think we British deserve credit for rescuing this glorious tune from obscurity!
@@MrBulky992 if I recall the beautiful lyrics are by Charles Wesley one of the founders of Methodism here in England so that's definitely a point to us. Man if that tune isn't brilliant though
@@BithbdYes you are right: the words are English. They originate with Charles Wesley but another intervened and thankfully changed his words, cutting a lot out as well as putting them in a different order. Even the opening line was different. Here are some of the originals which never made it into the superior version we sing today: HARK how all the Welkin rings" Glory to the King of Kings," ... Universal Nature say, " Christ the Lord is born to Day! Pleas'd as Man with Men *t'appear* , Jesus, *our Immanuel here* ! Hail the *Heav'nly* Prince of Peace ! ... Come, Desire of Nations, come, Fix in Us thy humble Home, Rise, the Woman's Conqu'ring Seed Bruise in Us the Serpent's Head. Now display thy saving Pow'r, Ruin'd Nature now restore, Now in Mystic Union join Thine to Ours, and Ours to Thine. Adam's likeness, Lord, efface, Stamp thy Image in its Place, Second Adam from above, Reinstate us in thy Love. Let us Thee, tho' lost, regain Thee, the Life, the Heav'nly Man: O ! to All Thyself impart, Form'd in each Believing Heart.
I'm sure you know, but just in case you don't, no atheists actually believe in 'sciencemas'. Most in fact still practice Christmas, since it's part of their culture. Constructs like 'sciencemas' are complete strawmans that tarnish the movement against the rise of atheism, as it gives them low-hanging fruit to call theists ignorant.
Are you German? This is a German tune by Mendelssohn which is never sung in Germany! Perhaps you have enough of your own Christmas carols to be going on with! Thank you for your countryman's gift of this tune!
@@schroedingersbandI made a wrong assumption there so apologies. You could also have been Swiss or Austrian or even German-speaking Italian Tyrolean so I was being very rash.
@@MrBulky992 lol you don't need to apologize that hard, it's not like Texaners are very common. And even so, I still endorse the best wishes for my language's cultural contributions. Just don't sweat it so hard. The fact that you're trying to be nice is never a problem in and of itself.
@@thesterrave To show that there is great diversity and an even greater core to Christianity. Love, and Merry Christmas, from a culturally Lutheran atheist. :)
Acrually, this is a German tune by Mendelssohn which is virtually unknown and unsung in Germany. In the UK, we know a good tune when we hear one and we don't care where it comes from.
@@MrBulky992if only mendelssohn knew how influential the gutenberg cantata would be as an english christmas carol 😭😭😭 to be fair, he was extremely popular in england during his day, so i'm not surprised people love this carol so much ❤️
@@tgccccAs an amateur choral singer, I can say that his choral works can't be beaten. I have a performance of "Elijah" lined up in the near future. "Paulus" isn't as popular here in the UK - the Engkish translation leaves something to be desired - but I thoroughly enjoyed singing it 30 years ago and "Lobgesang". We sang "Hear my prayer" as a virtual choir during Covid-19. His wedding march remains popular at the end of wedding services. I love Mendelssohn's music. He has had his detractors but I think he has seen them off. The violin concerto, Hebrides Overture and Italian Symphony are ever present. I went to hear the Scottish Symphony (No. 3) during the BBC Proms concert series in the summer. Organ and chamber works... Last, if not least, he revived the works of J S Bach.
This is one of my favourite Christmas carols as it has so much meaning to the word's origins of Christmas.. 💖 Love to UK 🇬🇧💝 Merry Christmas to everyone 🎄
I'm pretty sure there's a Swedish version of this song. Just went to church on Christmas (since Sweden celebrates Christmas on the 24th) and we sang this song.

The tune of this carol is by Mendelssohn but it was recycled in England as a Christmas carol to words adapted from a poem by Charles Wesley. It's nice to hear that knowledge of it has spread beyond the native English-speaking world. If you are singing it in Sweden, I am delighted to hear of it. Oddly, it's not known in Germany!
As a Methodist, this song makes my proud of our denomination’s influence on the world. Charles Wesley wrote this hymn and now it’s one of the most popular carols in the world. Kids may also recognize this song from the Peanuts Christmas special, created by Charles Schultz who was also a Methodist…
Merry Christmas. my maternal Family are all Methodists and I'm to Attend A Methodist Service on Christmas day. I don't know if that makes me a Methodist. I've never really been Religious but. Merry Christmas!
