I honestly find myself listening to this performance multiple times a week. I really appreciate Mr. Baumet's skill, musicianship and performance here. Just captures every bit of soul this piece has, and then some.
As a euphonium player myself, I have to relate to Baumet's expressions Everytime he gets to rest. I do the exact same thing. Rests after high notes or long runs are wonderful.
☺♫♪ great ♫♪♫♪♫♪☺ BRAVISSIMO to the soloist! @bisbis 🎶🎵🎼 great music from Sparke! a well tuned musical ensemble that sounds great ! Fabulous banding and supporting the soloist!
I just found this video a couple of days ago. Absolutely spectacular. Practically effortless playing. I was a music major euphonium player (long, long ago) and I was pretty good, but even at my best I was nowhere this talented. Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable performance.
@@jasoncostello1535 This is by far my favorite performance of this, Vos’ performance feels out of control and so quick that you lose the middle of the runs. It’s insane how he plays, but it seems more like a technical study than music

Won the Kentucky state solo festival as a 6th grader in 2005 with this piece on the baritone/euphonium. Against a tough class of musicians ranging all the way up to seniors in high school. Biggest regret of my life thus far being a known prodigy. Thought that 3 sports in the year time and was given the ultimatum of band or sports. Which isn’t existent nowadays kids can do it all simultaneously if wished. Have to stress to next generation(father of 3 myself) to do what makes YOU happy. I should be in concert orchestra anywhere in the county easily on the euphonium. Instead I’m struggling in jazz clubs on the trumpet and the occasional needed fill-in clarinet guy just to keep my whistle wet.
Very impressive, certainly. But as a former euphonium player, I found that if you half-valve the 4th valve, you can make amazingly convincing cow noises. Yes, really. You're welcome.
Very good very good. Different style compared to Robert Vos. Some sections were a bit sped up and not expressed with enough emotion for my personal liking. Good performance overall! A different style doesn't hurt at all.
It's no way underrated. It just does not figure in many classical compositions. That doesn't detract from its wonderful timbre. Earthy, grounded and warm. It is a mistake trying to compare Euphonium with French Horn. There is huge respect from Horn players for Euphoniumists plus of course, plenty of friendly banter!
