I hope to help some people who cannot decide on which Harley Benton model to buy... st62 or st90.. (or simply want to know how different they sound) The prices are great! The quality is good!
Finally a video review where the guitars are not being put through a pedal board with lots of effects. Doing a review in this way, I can hear how clear and amazing these guitars sound. Thank you for the review, I want both guitars.
I picked up the ST 62 CC in shell pink in Nov - Dec for about $150. It sold out quickly in the Spring and again in the late Fall, but not before I landed one. I replaced the block with a brass one and also put in a bone nut. (Maybe $35 total). These made a difference in toe, sustain and tuning. The pick ups are fine but I may think about lining the cavity with foil eventually as I am getting some static, but for now I will rub dryer sheets against it (works). The tuners are okay, not great, but an improvement over what normally comes on them. For the price it is a great value and with a little work will play and sound like one that is multiples in price.
Nice review...thanks so much. I bought the HB35 (335 knock off) this spring and absolutely love it. Play it more than my PRS. These guitars are the best kept secret around!...for the money can't be beat. Nice quality audio btw.
I have the same two guitars! To my ear the st-90 is a bit warmer but not a lot. I put a humbucker in the st-90 bridge (tonerider Birmingham) and I changed the bridge on the st-62 to full size zinc. Both guitars are great! Oh and I painted the fretboard of the st-62 with India ink, it was too red. Oh and I polished the body of the st-90, makes it looks world class!
I saw these videos. When everything is different, there is no telling how much the body contributes to the sound difference in comparisonn to the other parts. I know body wood makes a very subtle one.
@@Gbhbbgvsbnjhhdchhb did you put a callaham bridge into st62? Could you send me some.picture and tell.me.which callaham measure Is? What.about.sounf improving? Many thanks
St-62 more "mid-resonances", and St-90 more "direct" "brut" sound. In a good headphone. But i think thru a an amp HP, we don't make the diff.... (maybe due to the wood and cavities, or like you says at the end of your vidéo). Thank you !!
I hear a difference. Cannot tell it it's from the body wood, the bridge or just from the randomness of necks vibrating along with strings. If the blocks can be swapped, it would be interesting to make a cross comparison and see if the tonal difference moves with it.
It's the body. The myth stating body wood has no impact on sound has been debunked. You find some nice comparison with unfinished guitars which bodies had been swap for the test. Swamp ash gives more attack and sounds brilliant with distortion. Basswod and Alder tends to gry pretty fuzzy.
I just bought an SA90 based on this demo…thanks. I noticed it weighs 9.1 pounds which feels heavy compared to my ST62 but it does sound really nice. Did you notice the weight?
Vel done Dave. I have a 1979 strat with x tra thick ash body,I know from testings before that this give some more body to the sound. More from the waste and down so to say. I felt down drunk from a stage in Norway late 80es and a chairs armrest smashed in to lower pickup so I used the occasion to swap it with a humbucker. That was coming as a trend for heavy metal lowers like me at that time. later I got myself a tele and made sure it had a ashbody as well. Now I realize that this do not mean better sound, just different. Much of the signature sound of a strat is not thickness but the quacky knopfler like sound we all know and recognize when we are sober. I sometimes wonder why my strat has a little thicker body than standard ? Maybe someone knows ?
Hi.. Thanks.. Many things happened to Fender and Gibson during the 70/80s.. I don't know much about Fenders and Fender "experiencies" but, for example, Gibson Les Paul during this period had some alder bodys, walnut bodys, 3 pieces mahogany body (like a sandwich) and maybe some other things.
