HARLEY Davidson EVO Sportster BUILD PROGRESS Update 

Next to an evolution powered big twin the evos for sure is the most reliable Harley made in the Modern Age. I don't need the extra power the extra complication the extra expense of having a bigger and faster bike my Sportster satisfies me just fine. I love riding through orange groves when the orange is in Blossom we have the sweetest smelling air on Earth in Florida.

Looks fun I got an evo Sporty, I really, really really need a tank lol. My dad dropped a 2x4 on my bike that was holding my light while we were doing some work on my spark plugs this last summer, long story, but it's a small tank anyways, so I was on the lookout for a tank for me. Don't care color. Would b3 nice to go more than a 100 miles per tank. Also, It was great to see you today Corey. God bless you sir.

Something I've learned by wrenching on many bikes and cars over the years is that one should build up a large supply of common and various fasteners rather than running down to a store every time I need one. Another thing I've learned is that the best and most economical way to do that is to order them from McMaster Carr by the box, and to store them in parts boxes made for that specific purpose. Yeah, it's a pretty hefty outlay at first, but the time and aggrevation saved makes it very well worth it. I've done this over several decades, so my outlay has been mitigated...but ya gotta start somewhere! The art and science of fasteners is something every fabricator needs to understand!

Great project bro. Got me tuned in: I have a 01 Sportster project, an 883 punched up to 1250 by Hammer inc. in N. Idaho: a TC BROS hardtail & stuff , so a bike in a box. . . But it's a roller chassis. I like your approach, "Uhh, dont know everything, but . . Here we go!" Like my back alley way!! Lol

The eazy co said hardtail all evo sportys lol. Bike is coming along nicely tho having all them parts laying around. I got me a 89 sporty frame and motor ill be slapping together. I have about 75% of the parts gathered maybe ill make a video

Might keep an eye on weather conditions up this way, I'd put some blue over black an black over blue paint an sand them to look worn, also go with rusty/crusty pipes, I'd find some 60s-70s, colored sparkle throttle grips

It's coming together! You have lots of choices to make with that rigid mount scooter. I have a rubber mount 2006 XL1200, the last of the carburetor bikes, and the main thing I wish was different was no ability to go to old school points or nose cone type electronic ignitions. They have a points cover but there is nothing behind it, and no port to time it between the cylinders. I would love to have the ability to have a spare ignition with me on the road... It's too bad that you guys haven't had the time to make the van into a bike hauling camper yet. That would be very cool. Probably too cold in West Virginia to ride at Christmas, anyway... Go with that dyna s tech. I took the points off my 77 and put that on what a different it makes before was getting flames out the carb and tail pipes every once in a while put that on and noose flames and starts everytime without a problem just my two cents. Leave the tank and fender the color they are and put on them rusty pipes. Then you'll have a rat bike! 🤣🤣🤣

not sure if its something you need or want to use but there is a channel called "Brickhouse Builds" he sells this wiring type kit for older bikes. it has switches and controller things. he has several vids on how to wire it up . there are 2 types , he explains which to you use depending on how your bike is meant to run. i figured i would mention it in case it could help. good vid

I dig it! The buckhorn bars and risers looks great. I broke two oil tanks on early evo sporties , just cracked along the tabs, they don’t make it easy with drain line routing either. Cheers

Most sportsters of that time frame had a hose from that spicit that ran down to a nub that's welded to the frame you slide the hose over with a clamp to plug the end of the drain hose.

@saddletramp the 89-03 sportster oil drain line has a series of hose sections a 90° plastic elbow and another plastic elbow before getting plugged by a post on the frame under the swing arm pivot. Hope that helps

Need to do a detailed tutorial on putting points on an EVO sportster… I need to do it on mine.

There’s a glue remover that works good for cleaning chrome spoked wheels. Goof off I think that’s right. Use it with rubber gloves on and done get it on plastic stuff. It should take that paint off the rim. Just do a little spot at a time. I use it now and then for my annual clean up. Gets all the tough road grime, tar brake dust etc. Thanks for the video! I'm running that same dynatek ignition on my evo roadking that i just converted from m&m to carb, simple setup, works good, 2 wires, it's almost as good as points!

All my Harleys have been one of three colors: gloss black, satin black or flat black. Merry Christmas to you and the Mrs.

On the 1990s Sportster the oil line drain is on the left side right under the plate with your electronics there should be a little nub on the frame that the hose hooks to and then obviously you have to put a clamp around it I have a 90 and that's the way mine is anyway just thought I'd drop that little bit information hope it does you some good have a wonderful day buddy God bless

Looks like you have a bike coming together. I had an 84 Iron head that I rode for 23 years. I still kick myself for selling it when I got my 99 Softail Custom. Not that I do not love the Softie, but I had a load of fun on the Sportster. Now that they have stopped producing the Sportster as we know it, they will be even more in demand. Well, I am 82 years old, and really have no need for 2 motorcycles. But, it was in absolute perfect condition and a great ride. Every time I see yours, it reminds me of how much fun I had on mine. So I will just sit here watching your video's and drool. Thank you for that. LOL.
