Thanks Steve, your video made the install on my 2010 FXDC a breeze. I did have a very difficult time getting the rubber gasket and gauge back into the instrument cluster. I tried putting the gasket on the speedo but then the gasket would not sit in the cluster right. Putting the gasket on the cluster first and sliding the speedo in caused the gasket to unseat and pop out. I finally seated the gasket in the cluster and then applied a very thin coat of cable lube to help the speedo slide right in.

Thanks for making this video, I now feel comfortable enough to install my own on an 04 FLSTFI.

Thanks! Just got mine, but don't have a service manual to fill in the blanks as to what is involved with the actual removal and installation. This video did the trick!

You didn't mention you reset the gasket. The gasket has a groove cut in that fits in the housing first then the gauge slide in. A little dish soap helps greatly in sliding the gauge into the housing

Thanks for the video. There are not a lot of good ones out there for speedometers. Very instructive.

Yes it is very difficult to get it to stay where you want it too - I found you just have to persevere and eventuakky it will get where you want it to be.

I need one for my 2009 sportster. Can't use Harley one as it was installed at dealership but not all working Harley left me in the cold once again they sell stuff just don't back it or stand behind it. Really strange for a dealership

Sorry for the delay in replying - been on a road trip. It is a Harley Davidson item, your dealers will probably have a display witht he gauge in, which you can play with and see all the colours.

Weird thing, I have an 05 road king, and speedo shorted out after washing it. I bought this same tach, but the model # ends with B instead of A. Same thing except for there is no KPH on MPH. I followed the install and data link to a T, and when I would ignition I'd get a NO CAL in the LCD, and then that would go away, and it was replaced with NO SPD. It would not transfer the odometer to the new odometer. I'm thinking that if your speedo stopped working, replacing it with this type of Speedo will not work due to the inability to transfer odometer reading of a broken speedo to the new speedometer. I can't find anyone with an answer to this. I thought this might be an issue, as the old speedo was as if it wasn't there because IT WAS BROKEN (insert Sam Kinison Tirade). Our shop service guy in Folsom checked with the mechanic, and "it's okay, just follow the directions." Engine switch on, Data Link plugged in, no go! I had the old speedo out, and was tapping it and banging it slightly, and I saw LED partially show numbers, they would immediately dim if I stopped squeezing the old gauge. Thinking the ecm possibly sensed the old speedo after doing the Fonz bang and tap on the old speedo, which seemed to allow some juice into it, so I did the transfer procedure again, and something did change this time as it just went to NO CAL, without going to NO SPD. I'm assuming NO SPD means it isn't sensing a speedo. Well It stopped that, and the NO CAL shows. There is a red light blinking, but then after a bit the red light goes solid and stays on. But still it did not do the conversion. The trouble shooting guide for this particular NO CAL says, normal function, but ads as long as "percentage and ok" show, which they don't. I went ahead and plugged the new speedo into the consul to see if something happened, and the new speedo lit up beautifully, but with NO CAL or something I forget. But no odometer transfer. I'm wondering if I should ride it and go through that 31 mph countdown the document spells out. I'm going back down to get a speed sensor. Apparantly, it could be that issue if the signal lights don't cancel, for one sign. With the bike just leaning on the stand, it doesn't cancel. Somebody said I had to at least lean it or move the steering for it to cancel, which I haven't done. So, I'll check for cancellation leaning and turning the bike. With all the forums out there only about 4 of these issues are on the net, and none of those who had the problem explained how they solved it. These speedo combo's don't work if your replacing a broken one. They should explain this, as there is no refund for them. They seem to only work if you are upgrading. I need to get the odometer reading back, as I'm selling. Any ideas?

Steve, do you know if the transfer will work "backwards"? Meaning. I already had my bike torn apart for paint and decided to get a new speedo. I don't want to install the old one to transfer it and then uninstall it. Do you know if the transfer would still work if I installed the new one and put the old one where the data link cable is? Thanks!

+Craig Freeburg Not to sure Craig, I suggest you check online. I can't remember to be honest the details of the transfer of data.

Anthony Miranda . Put old working speedo back in . Hook data link to new speedo and transfer data from old speedo to new . If Your old speedo don't work the data won't transfer. I ran into this problem. Took it to Harley they wanted to charge me 16 hours shop time to do a complete diagnostic ! No way . I even pointed out my old speedo didn't work they said it didn't matter. I said the instructions say working speedo to transfer. Anyway bought a used speedo for 50 bucks hooked it up it worked. Hooked data link up to the new Speedo and the Data Transferred.

I had one installed at the dealership with a sending unit. Over a 1000 bucks installed . I found out later that apparently it does not work on all sportsters as mine lacks all the bells an whistles. I have an allways low fuel light fuel gauge and related does not work. The dealership said once out the door your on you own work or not. Tack works speedo works rest is just residual garbage. Think I'm gonna try Dakota seen how Harley don't work and ain't gonna correct it. By the way if you do call Harley Teck at home ne nice or you'll get shut off

Hi I bought an used speedometer to my 2011 Fatboy Lo in Ebay, and it comes without the data transfer cable, I try buy it with the part number at the dealer but is a bad number. Did you know the correct part number of the cable or can you send me pics of the cable to make me one and transfer the correct mileage to new speedo? Thanks a lot.

the biggest problem is knowing which model and year this application covers... sure won't work on a '97 RK! :)

Nice video. After connection the data link to my 2007 Road King, "0%" read on the odometer and a red light flashed one time and then....nothing. It refused to read. Yes, I had it on Ignition and yes, it was on Run. Yes I am sure it was the Data Link. Zip. Tried it a copy of time. Even ran the bike a bit. Nothing but the 0. Now what?
