Harley Davidson Pan America regrets? 

I just saw your video. I have a 21 PAS with over 42,000 mi on it. I've ridden across the country several times, to Prudhoe Bay in Alaska on the Dalton highway, logging roads and some very rough and rocky off-road trails (it has the scratches to show). I Love My Pan America. Best motorcycle Harley's ever made in my opinion. It's a blast on the road and off.

Great video! I have a 22” with just over 20,000 . It’s a love hate relationship! I’ve had the same RH control replacement but my main issue is the fuel pump! 4 fuel pump replacements and it’s on the 5th one now! It’s like clockwork right in between the 5,000 mile service!dealership said they’re not replacing it just yet because it’s not as loud as the previous 🤦🏻I think I have a lemon at this point! Just swapping out/Replacing the fuel pump isn’t working or solving anything! I did the same things I tried different gas station thinking it was a fuel quality issue, tried keeping the fuel levels up past the last quarter tank. I live in the PNW and ride year round so it’s not the heat/ warmth of the outside temperature. It has to be some kind of electrical issues or the fuel pump itself it a flawed design and needs to be recalled and redesigned!! It’s still one of my favorite motorcycles but………..

I’ve done 37,000 kms on my 21. I went through 4 batteries until starter clutch replaced. Also 2 exhausts, fuel pump and the clutch but still love it. I too have Aeedea highway pegs ; they’re great. I did a 12,000 km trip, camping most of the time. Standard panniers, top box and tank bag plus bag on seat worked great. I used your info for wiring accessories. Thanks muchly

Thanks for the video. Mine has 37,000km/23,000mi and I had all the electrical gremlins you speak of and more, leaving me stranded once and ruining two or three big trips. Still, street, offroad, camping, still love it after working out the gremlins. The Anakee Wilds are amazing offroad and wear out very fast on-road, but survived one week-long Switzerland, France and Italy trip with 20% heavy offroad and the back was done. I use the Quadlock charger with my quadlock wireless charging setup like yours (also with the vibration damper), but the built-in USB charger on the right side worked in a pinch. (iPhone)

Me too! I've had none of the electrical gremlins others have experienced on my 2021 (ie. after the starter clutch gear was replaced under warranty). I have no reason to upgrade to a 2024 as there are no real performance or infotainment/connectivity system improvements but if I was to get a new bike, it would certainly be the 2024 PAm. BTW, regarding the Aeedea highway pegs, they are the most adjustable/practical setup I've ever seen and I say that the industrial look, while not everyones cup of tea, certainly complements with the looks of the PAm.

Great informative video. Owner of a 2022 PA Special from new. Currently have 22,089 miles . Only issue noisy fuel pump replaced promptly at 21000 miles under warranty.. I agree about running the tank low and I refuel at 180 miles into a tankful anymore. Also love the Scorchers and still run them. Put the AEE DEA Hwy pegs on as soon as I saw Snowbird put them on his bike. They are great. They are ugly and I like that they are ugly because they fit right in the ugly of the bike which I also love. I use my bike for pavement only commuting and sport touring. In that capacity thus bike shines. Like you I consider this one of the very best all around and fun bikes I have ever owned. Love your videos info and enthusiasm. I bought a new 21 late in that first season and put about 16k miles on it. I had the fuel pump issue right at 6500 miles like most people. I put another 10k on it with it squealing because my dealer couldn't get a replacement. I had issues with the ARH right after the 5k service and software update, it wouldn't lower unless I turned off the bike and restarted it. I didn't have any display issues but there was an issue if I shut the bike off I had to walk away from it for about 30 seconds before I could come back and start it back up or I would get the squeal or the bike would just restart the electronics. I think the restarting of the electronics was because of the small battery and I didn't keep it on a tender, it was rode daily. The final straw was when it stalled going down the highway at 70 mph. I didn't kill switch myself which was almost common for me on that bike. Thankfully it started back up and got home. The following tuesday I started the process of trading it on a used 21 Road King Special I found in SVG paint. I don't regret buying it and had a lot of fun on it but would I buy another? Probably not, I'll stick to my never go anywhere fast KLR650 and my RKS.

I have a ‘21 and have done pretty much the same upgrades. I have replaced the fuel pump as well, plus the exhaust shield fell off and I got the VIN error. Everything was fixed on warranty and the bike never left me stranded. My dealer has basically learned everything from my bike as there aren’t many arround here. 😄 I got lots of codes over the years but they all cleared and I would say the software updates fixed pretty much all of them and most of it was due to the underpowered battery they used in the 21 models. Would I buy another one. Yes. It is fast fun and fits me perfectly.

Jerry, i have my usb hooked up the same way in that heated gear plug, I think it charges extremely slow, and I noticed that I bet if you just hardwire the one that you have mounted already that will solve your issue

quick shifter is fun, The best bike i have ever owned. Ive owned many harleys , fat boys , streetglide cvo 4 of them. dyna and even custom choppers.I have had my GI edition since dec. They had 2 new ones just sitting after the test drive i knew.I would of got the CVO pan but i have almost every option you can add at this point and i like the green.

Owned one for two years. I tried to like it but ended up hating it. Scraped it off my shoe last June. I think that the defective starter clutch gear, common on 2021 models was the biggest deal killer. It was eventually fixed but the damage was done to my enthusiasm.

I wonder what the average mileage is on a Pan America. Glad it's been good to you so far.

I stopped by the local dealership yesterday and am giving some serious thought about getting a 2024 Pan America.

What heated gear are you running? You look like a big guy like me. I’m 6’3” 350 so tough to find gear.

I got a 22 Nightster 975. The dealer told me frankly that there there will be an electrical gremlin so they give me 15% discount. They will deal with the gremlin as they come. There was indeed them gremlins during the first month. 😂 However the dealer kept their word. After 2 updates the bike works perfectly every day for a year now.

That isn't a Harley. Harleys are air cooled and have a carburetor.

Complete garbage. Try a BMW for a real bike with reliability and value.
