Hey Angelica! Most guys who love riding and working on their bikes don’t like learning about building them as much as you. I bet you know more than lots of them by now too! That is SO COOL! Also, learn all you can from your old Pops, and you’ll be glad you did someday I promise. Awesome girl, big thumbs up to you.

Armature paint. Used it on the inside of car engine blocks. In the lifter valley, the timing chain area, and the area on the top of the heads around the valve springs and rocker studs. It sealed the cat iron to promote faster oil return to the pan.

I won't disagree that the aluminum absorbs moisture but I have to point out that the flame of a gas torch produces moisture too. The principal exhaust byproduct is H2O. I would have baked those things in an electric oven.

Missed a big part, the part I was waiting on, sealing the lower cases, what was used to seal them. Great video but was looking forward to seeing that part, because I'm having issues with leaking cases on my 75 shovel. Is it possible to seal cases without breaking down the whole lower end. Can you just spread apart just enough to clean and get some type of sealer in there

I bet that moisture is coming from the combustion of the propane. If you used a heat-gun I’m sure you’d notice waaay less water condensation.

I never knew that Aluminum was porous , my sons father in law has a doctorate degree in metalurgy and is getting ready to retire from a government department, I will ask him his thought on this, thanks for educating us
@KevinBaxter
@KevinBaxter 2 года назад
Be sure to note we are dealing with sand casted aluminum as well. There are always casting voids. Better castings and better alloys will be less porous than stock ones. Billet is a vastly different scenario.
@AmericanPatriot-cw9xe
@AmericanPatriot-cw9xe 2 года назад
@@KevinBaxter Thank you Kevin I will be sure to differentiate between them, n just emphasis on on Sand casted Aluminum, I use to work for a metal recycling company years ago that had ways to extract nickel from all kinds of different manufacturing waste from spent nickel catalysis filtercake used in making cooking oil n margerine (which I don't eat any food made with hydrogenated oils, the waste product was hazmat n some of their loads caught fire! not any of mine , but still the thought of using such nasty stuff in food that surely causes cancer n other health risks is gross n insane, the end product they burnt in large furnaces n it was a fine podwer that looked like durt, but had up to 13 percent nickel, which mining it out of the ground is expensive n deep n even then the mines are lucky to get 7 percent nickel content, which as you know Nickel is used in lots of alloys too from the space indusrty's to race cars, to using nickel we need to make stainless steel, btw the waste spent nickel catalyst stunk to high heaven, the employees said they run it thru descenters n filters becofe it goes in the food thankfully but still just me knowing it was in there n how bad it was was enough for me, aluminum alloys are also very interesting in n and of themself, I bet his father in law has great insight, it might be a while before I see him he lives in another state, I see him once or twice a year but will ask him, n pick his brain a bit, take it easy.

You didn't show the procedure for checking the Timken's end play, but in another vid on a Twinkie you did do so is some detail. Now, with a commercial shop, such as yours, would it not make sense to have a dedicated dummy shaft to use for the initial setup and measurement of the Timken end play rather than wrestling with the crank assembly you are actually going to use? ....RooDog....

I need to rebuild the cases on my Shovel also. Where did you get that case assembly stand? Also, what do you do when the Time-Serts are stripped. My plan was to have them drilled out, wholes welded closed, and retap. Is it possible to get Time-Serts drilled out whithout destroying the cases? These are stock Harley cases with the Serial on them.

JIMS. It may be discontinued now unfortunately. They make BigSerts. Oversize Time Serts for that very purpose. Just follow the same procedure.

You didnt say what kind of breather you were using, and didn't mention what you were doing with the additional splined shaft on the generator side of the crankshaft, cant call it educational if all details are left out.......like the vids but ive watched allot of them and I've noticed allot of these type of details have been left out, wheather on purpose or by accident i dont know......for the people that dont know what these parts are that watch these vids i think its fair to point out more details.....unless your the drag racer that grinds off the name brand of an intake and think thats keeping it all camouflaged......i hate that
