I was born here in 1953 along with my 3 sisters. We lived there until 1960 and then migrated to Australia. I prefer the footage of the hamlets before the area became Harlow. The architecture is absolutely depressing.
Harlow is a particularly unique place for wildlife. I knew it after the building but can imagine it even better before. I recognised Freshwaters in the video. This was an interesting place before they built bungalows on 'Danger keep out' as it was once known as. This is the oldest video on Harlow I have seen. Thanks for uploading it.
Essex_Grown l came to Harlow in 1952 aged 5yrs old with my parents and 2 brothers my mother worked at coreys for 6 mths traverling from stokenewington every day,we got a brand new house in Great plumtree, the town was still being built it was great growing up in Harlow nothing but fields all the way to burntmill station and the only shops where in old harlow.
I don’t like the architecture of the new towns - Harlow, Stevenage, Hemel Hempstead and Basildon, to name a few. All the houses in those towns look the same. Architects offer the same bland designs for housing projects today. Give me an old characterful building any day.
