I was fortunate enough to get a demo of the Meridian 7200 system way back in 1999 with a Sim2 DLP of Saving Private Ryan DTS. Meridian's dvd player had a function to convert 5.1 into 7.7. The 7200 each have built in subs, small but very nice. Still one of the best theaters I have ever heard. After that, try listening to a sound bar...
If you find this interesting : JBL = Pro audio loudspeakers Crown = Pro audio amplifiers (for speakers like what JBL makes) Soundcraft and Studer = Pro audio mixers AKG = Headphones and micros DBX = Audio processing BSS = more specialised audio processing Digitech = guitar pedals Lexicon = well know effects processing All of those all works in the pro audio market and are sister companies from Harman
Harman Kardon was one of the great American audio makers of the 50s, 60s, and 70s, and put out some truly high end gear via its Citation line. They made amps and receivers almost exclusively. Then the company was folded into a lage conglomerate Harman International which also absorbed Infinity and JBL. The Harman Kardon of today has little relation to the original company. It puts out some good products but has never been known for speakers.
Thank you SWATPhantom. You should go update Wikipedia because you have more than twice the information than they have. I know that Mark Levinson is very high end audio but I was no aware they make or sell speakers either; though I know of their car audio systems for exotics; just didn't think they made the speakers for them. No doubt some sister company is my assumption. The question was did HK know speakers or if they were known for them, their amps sound are legendary. Thanks again.
Well I'm not sure I found what you wanted me to, but I did end up reading some history of the HK website. There was no talk of speakers other than the recent 2000ish PC speakers. In the 1960's HK bought JBL, but that is it. I was expecting something big is all...like Klipsch or Magnepan. Your comment that HK knows speakers, was really lost on me, because they really don't from what I know is all; and I was looking forward to learning of something new about HK.
They own brands like JBL and Crown wich are great pro audio brands. They also make sound for cars like Ferrari, McLaren, Toyota, etc. They also have premium brands like JBL Synthesys, Mark Levison and Infinity. They DO know about sound.
Thank you so much for your review. Great job btw. I've recently purchased a Yamaha YSP-2200, but find that the sub doesn't perform as well. I'm also thinking of the harman/kardon SB 30, or the Bose | CineMate SR1. Can you recommend or suggest which would be better? Thanks in advance.
If you want to know about Harman and sound, Google "harman Meet the Scientists" Very rich history. This doesn't mean everything they make sounds great. But it's good to realize where they come from.
Ummmm...nope. All I was trying to do is find out if HK made some speakers that I did'n know about, from way back when HK was really HK. The reviewer made comments to the effect that HK new speakers. Just trying to learn more was all. Thanks for the personal attacks and hate though.
Also, its works perfectly fine when I'm watching blue rays and playing my PS4. Just doesn't seem to be able to decode OTA channel(s) audio, which is a shame. Any advice again would be greatly appreciated.
Hate em... ...but maybe if all the other cheap ones never were I might think different. I'm more of a 7.7 system person. What does HK know of speakers? They were know for amps I thought? Yeah they make PC speakers...and some mini speakers now...is that what you mean? Keep coming with the vids guys!
I guess you would know more about hate than me by the sound of your comment macuser5555. I would attempt to clear up any questions you had, but there are none, just an attack by the looks of it. My guess is you just became what you said you hate...? If I didn't know better I would say you were a Troll'n.
Soooo.....you're here for what reason then???? I just love haters who come here with their ass on their shoulders and spew out shit from their mouths. Probably the very people that say they are a 7.7 person but hardly own an iPod to their name.
