An adventurous couple head out to the Allegheny National Forest to try their hand at BOONDOCKING for FREE. We head to Marienville, Pennsylvania to the forest where there is free dispersed camping in several locations.
While this is different from the typical "campground" experience, it is like owning the entire forest all by yourself.
We visit with a new-found friend, Guenther GT Thiedemann who turned us onto this spot. in the "ANF" ru-vid.com

@@HarmonyExpressSkoolie My husband, Bill, and I visited Buttermilk Falls in New Florence, PA this past Sunday afternoon. Friends and family had been there, but we never had. We thought it was about time to experience some of our local treasures! Before returning home to Indiana, PA, we went to Olive Garden in Greensburg and enjoyed Italian food and Watermelon Mascotto Sangrias. Yum. It was a really nice day trip.

Nice getaway. I canoe camped with friends this past weekend in the ANF on the bank of the Clarion River south of Ridgway. Love that part of the state. Looking forward to taking our bus up there. If you like canoeing or kayaking get ahold of Tim and Amanda at Lazy River Canoe in Ridgway. You can park on their shop property for a very small camping fee and rent boats and livery. The most fun short trip would be to launch from Arroyo and float to Irwin Run access.

We love it up there and are planning to go back later in the season. My onliest wish for the site that would make it PERFECT would be if there were just a LITTLE bit better cell coverage there. I could then go up there and work for a week at a time.

@@HarmonyExpressSkoolie I'm actually curious how do you solve the wifi problem with your Skoolie? do you use Skyroam?

@@user-yy7tw9hv9n Hi William. This gives me a great idea for a video on this subject. We are using a Visible phone as a hotspot tied to a nano-router for all of our devices. We have a WeBoost that we mount to our roof deck when we dock that helps get cell signal into the bus. It boosts a weak signal into something usable. That being said, when we are in state parks or in the forest, the signal is definitely WEAK. Also, the towers out in the rural lands don't have the fastest internet connection, so even with a booster, we get SLOW internet.

@@HarmonyExpressSkoolie Enough for surfing?
@HarmonyExpressSkoolie
@HarmonyExpressSkoolie 3 года назад
@@user-yy7tw9hv9n It really depends on location. In the ANF, where we were, we were about 6 miles away from a tower, so the WeBoost helped get us some surfing. In Cook Forest, the tower situation is NOT good, so even though we were able to connect to a tower, the internet coverage was not good. It is difficult because you really want to get out into nature and unwind, but those locations are pretty light in cell coverage.

Not sure if 40 footers are allowed but there are some slightly developed designated free boondocking spots along the Clarion River near Irwin Run and Millstone Creek. They get a bit full and crazy mid summer but at the late spring or early fall could be another nice trip.

Do you happen to recall what road this is off of?
@HarmonyExpressSkoolie
@HarmonyExpressSkoolie 2 года назад
Hi Adam. If you take PA 66 north into Marienville, you take a right at the University Corner gas station and that is called Lamonaville Road. That road becomes Forest Service Road 130. Once the road becomes FR 130, there are several open areas to camp before you get to the small bridge over Pigeon Run.
