Mama Harriet, you're making it hard for the babies! ❤ My goose (gander) was raised with our first group of chickens, and he loves his friends, but with the next group of chicks? No. The interlopers arrived, and he thought he must DEFEND HIS FLOCK, because guard goose, and you'd have thought chickens were raining down upon us from hell.
I read somewhere that with chickens they will pick on the chicken that looks different. Maybe, it's their nature to think if the gosling are different than they should get pushed out. Maybe, Harriet knows their behavior?
Harriet: "I WANT MY BABIES! I don't trust those chickens ..." Chickens: " We don't care, there's chow" Goslings: "..... Yes, chow ...." Play time was a success
Not a good idea. My father grew up on a farm and he told me some of his stories of various animals they had. Chicks and chickens will peck on the weakest until they die. Mother Harriet knows what she is doing and should be able to take care of her babies. I never saw a duck or goose pick on their own in the 15 years we took care of them at the lake.
And here my geese are trying to wear my skin. She doesn't even have eggs and she and her male have been a trying to kill me for months. When the husband gets home it might be time to dismantle the nest.
I almost was attacked by a bunch of geese. They are mean! I’ve seen a flock of chickens attack a poor lone duck. The duck was a stray that the chicken keeper was trying to take back to its own flock. Birds are mean to each other.
