Harriet - The Winner Takes It All (ABBA Cover) 

Yeah? Your comment really intrigued me . It got me to go watch the original video. How classic 80s it was. And, I appreciate your point, the emotion in Agnetha’s voice (and captured on her face) is poignant to say the least. But isn’t that exactly what a great cover should do? Hell, I don’t consider myself a huge ABBA fan - too poppy for us rockers, punksters, folkies, psychedelics…. Kudos to Harriet’s cover and your comment to make me reconsider my closed mind of 35 years ago.

Not that it needs to be a competition, but we have this instinctive, built in reaction of comparing. It’s just part of our DNA 🧬, literally. The original version always has the advantage, because usually that’s the first version we’ve heard. In this case, and I’ve just discovered Harriet last week, ABBA’s version is my favorite ABBA song. As the other commenter wrote, Agneta’s intonations, and her body language, really made the song. Plus, if I remember correctly, she was just in the process of separating from Bjorn, which gave an added poignancy to her performance. It wasn’t “just” acting. Harriet gives this song a certain wistfulness, as if the break has already been somewhat ‘digested’. The sadness is still present, but it’s not that painful anymore. At least, that’s how I’m hearing this 🙂

@@shinobi2119 Ok lawyer. This was a comment. No one is interested in your evaluation. She has a great voice but this is a terrible CD. Terrible songs. Depressing. Like a poor country and western album. We actually threw it in the waste basket. Absolute truth. It was that bad. And you can put that malicious on the appropriate shelf.

@@shinobi2119 How long is this going on. I want to make sure people are aware of my opinion not to buy this CD. It is terrible. Stop criticizing my opinion. It is among the worst CD's I have ever bought. The song choices are terrible. Depressing. Some songs have vulgar words on them. Terrible. Enough said. Don't buy.
