"No taxes on tips" is a good idea, but the legislation must be written to exclude fees or bribes disguised as tips, such as payments to stock brokers, Supreme Court Justices, and the like.
I believe it's going to be written specific to the "service industry" and that would exclude the SCOTUS, brokers, etc. And their incomes are well above minimum wages.

The no tax on tips idea works if there is a specific definition of "tip" as well as specific income thresholds otherwise you'll have hedge fund managers getting "tips" of a few million dollars tax free.
I believe the Harris proposal is being written specifically to exclude that kind of behavior - unlike Trump's. Everything Trump does is to benefit his rich buddies.

We need an improved minimum wage that tracks with inflation, nationalized availability if healthcare coverage separate from employment to break the private insurance hold on employers and free up smaller employers to offer better compensation through savings from the business end of insurance coverage, and a much better and more simplified tax code in general with the complete eradication of for profit tax services for anyone filing a simple return. That process should be easily covered by the IRA with documentation annually about what portion of collected taxes went to which portion of govt expenditures. Most other nations have accomplished this, why do we keep it complicated except to make money for private entities that give no actual service or solution to the problem they propagate?

In the past Trump has proposed that employers be allowed to take the tips of their workers. The union knows who actually is on the side of workers and who isn't.

She's intentionally not giving very much because she doesn't need to. I imagine after the convention, or even during, she'll announce some concrete policy plans, and then the interviews will come. Though even then, I imagine they will be short press conferences and even shorter one-on-one types. When you have an opponent like Trump who has a tendency to put his foot, other foot, both legs and half his torso in his own mouth, it's a better idea to say less than more. Also, up until very recently she wasn't really allowed to speak freely. She always had to back anything said by Biden. She'll still do that, but as the official candidate, after the convention, she'll be free to differentiate herself without being seen as stepping on her boss's toes.

Don the Con wanted restaurant owners to be able to take tips from workers. Don the Con was intending to make tips tax-free so that his wealthy friends in investments and real estate could be paid by tips rather than income, evading taxes. Harris intends to make it solely for traditional service workers. Harris is not stealing his idea. They only seem similar. The many service workers make just over the poverty level. Declaring cash tips is voluntary. Although making tips tax-free seems like a solution, they would be helped more by increasing the minimum wage to $15+.
