@@saywhat8966 False reasoning on your part. Are you saying an individual or family struggling to budget during a 60-year period of flat wages is just as evil as a corpo-rat price-gouger?
Are your stupid? If you are a CPA what you just said is dumb. Food chains are only making about 1.6% profit and anyone using the tax code to pay less tax is only able to because some politician wrote it into law. Wake up
Eggs at the store I prefer are now back to their pre-gouging levels. Beef is still high but chicken and pork prices are now back to normal. Retailers have learned that when they increase prices the number of customers decrease. This is a lesson that has always existed but is always forgotten by retailers. Democrats tried to get Republicans to support hearings on price gouging but McCarthy said it wasn't necessary, a fact that must be pushed to voters this year!
She is using Socialist policies, infact BLACKROCK drafted these policies BLACKROCK control alot of banking and business she is following thru BLACKROCK agenda.

US should raise corporate taxes but not do it blindly. Corporate success is American success. So US should give corporations tax holidays every 3rd year where their tax rate drops 1/2.
Anyone who relieves himself in a gold toilet cannot possibly have any idea what average Americans need and could not care less. But he wouldn't hesitate to lie about it to get what he wants.
Lifelong Democrat here. I have lived through Biden and Harris years and I'm not better off than I was when Trump was in office. I'm breaking rank here and voting Trump. Easy choice for me.
Kamala Harris cooks from scratch so she understands. There’s lots of RU-vid footage on her cooking at home. Meanwhile, Trump eats fast-food and smears ketchup on walls 🥴😂😅

Again, although this is a good interview, it seems disingenuous to ask Sen. Warren to explain an excellent plan to rein in mega-corporation price gouging, then ask her to explain why tuition and university in total has become to drastically expensive. Those two things are apples and oranges, and they are complex. The history behind Reagan attacking and defunding the state university systems is legend, that is where this began as concerns universities. As to why the big Ivy League private universities, with massive endowments, are gouging is a whole different discussion as well. The defunding of our public school system and underpaying teachers is another. All are interconnected in some ways, of course, everything is. But gosh, I wish we could see smarter interviews. What is laudable here by Michael Steele and Alicia Menendez let Sen. Warren answer pretty fully, that was very interesting, it was informative reporting. Thank you!
@sandyfox9947 yup but these mfs are trying to invalidate the votes of people who are trying to vote for dems in certain states like in Texas 😭 we need to win this!
All of your GAZA friends in Chicago might wreck the Dem convention and ruin your chances of seeing a Harris presidency. How about passing the word to keep it civil in Chicago. We don't need another 1968.
@@tonie1106 prices change due to various reasons, such increase in fuel, increase in insurance, increase employe pay, that's not price gouging that's inflationary
Factory closures from early in the pandemic reduced supply just as demand was rising, which sent prices up even further. Russia's invasion of Ukraine caused a spike in oil prices, which increased the cost of both manufacturing and shipping, while also forcing up the price of wheat and other commodities. How do you not know this? Do you not know how to google???
For those of you watching the Harris and Frump speeches, unlike what people on MSNBC and other outlets are saying, clamping down on price gouging does not equate to government enacting price controls. (the price controls is like what happened with rationing during WW2) It is an FTC-type issue. For example, when eggs were in short supply, prices went way up. When eggs came back to becoming more readily available, some stores kept their prices high. That is price gouging. There can be a mechanism put into place where if the percentage of profit on necessities (like food and toilet paper, for example, or anything that can be purchased via the SNAP program) is still priced to give the seller more than a very high (TBD by experts) percentage of profit, government fines can be levied. That is NOT the same as the government setting prices. What it will do is help those living in food deserts, where often the only source of milk or bread is from a gas station, where prices are set astronomically higher because the only other choice for people without cars in the neighborhood is take (often ridiculously inconvenient and sporadic) public transportation, to visit a big store where prices are set based on standard competition among other nearby stores.
@otterwench Thanks for your clear concise explanation. People on the right get all excited about the word "control" except when it involves women's health, books, voting, etc.,which is OK with them to let government control 😢
I remember when asked about people out of work because of the government shut down needing to buy food he told them to put it on a tab at the grocery store. He has NO CLUE or compassion for average people .
Canada has healthcare and is not a communist country. Having said that, there are HUGE FLAWS with the system, starting with the heavy salaries at the top and fewer services covered for the working-aged group. Below 25 and over 65 has coverage. Work coverage is expected for the 26-64 group. Wait times are huge.
I’m a Harris supporter. I will say that they will need a cogent response when someone asks “Why didn’t the Biden administration crack down on price gouging 3 years ago?” BTW…I recall being on vacation in Puerto Rico in late December 2001 and listening to a drunk NYC trucking company owner boasting at a hotel bar about how much money he’d made charging “whatever he felt like” to truck debris from Ground Zero to Fresh Kills on Staten Island. Price gouging…it DOES happen! My perception of the inflation of the recent past was that it stemmed to a great extent from higher energy costs triggered by the Russian invasion of Ukraine as well as supply chain hangovers from COVID. Interestingly, increased necessary infrastructure work has caused a spike in equipment and construction materials costs. There are now multi-year lead times on critical large scale electrical transformers. I’m wondering if we need a national strategic reserve of industrial transformers. Companies are “making hay while the sun is shining”.

I love that Donnie Dorko says, "You're going to be thrown into a system where everybody gets healthcare" as if it was a BAD thing! "Folks, if you're not careful, the government MIGHT start spending your taxes on things that HELP YOU!"
Duh, Trump was in office and his donors were gouging. Then supply chains took a long time to become normal. Not everything in the world is "instagram" instantaneous.

I agree. My landlords seem to be price gouging. An increase of $70 a month, when in the past and rent would increase it was only by $25 - $35 per month.
Trump has a "cottage"? Really? A cottage. Like a bungalow? A one-bedroom cabin without heat, electricity, or running water? What, exactly, is Donnie's idea of a "cottage"?

One CEO has been made to resigned because of their mulit million dollar wage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is following something like a pandemic where supplies are scarce, but then prices stay just as high when no supply chains are broken. We all went thru the worldwide pandemic. Corporations don't need 700% profit which is that much above the supply cost. Consumers don't have anybody making it up to them.
They should put out cotton balls, glue and paper plates for him to take to his cottage and have fun with the Cheerios. He is now at a preschool level. We can no longer compare him to a 3rd grader.
Liz Warren is simple brilliant! Easy for understanding! We need more plain, honest terms that she makes so clear. She makes complicated easy to understand.
Huh? Harris and Biden been in office for Three years! Their Party has been closing small farms and ranches. Big farms get breaks. Little farms get regulated out of business.
The largest egg company is probably torturing those poor chickens too! 718% profit, an no real competition? Boycott Cal-Maine Foods! I bought 5 chickens and they are easy and make an egg a day!
We need MORE capitalism. Capitalism FOR EVERYONE. Remember when every American town had family-owned businesses and farms? Sporting goods. Kitchen supplies. Lumber yards. Hardware stores. Music stores... The oligarchy killed all those small businesses. Corporate monopolies killed capitalism. Let's bring it back. Level playing field for everyone. Free markets. Actual COMPETITION.
Thanks for making an actual economic argument. "Free markets": We CREATE markets. Let's create one with proper competition and opportunity for small businesses, and good wages for workers, too.
Somewhere along the line someone is going to ask about high costs of homeowners insurance…one of the rarely asked questions impacting the cost of housing in many otherwise “affordable” regions.

This is hard to do. Margins on groceries are tiny, less then 0.5%. Its not hard togo up 500% (2.5%) margin. Still low. Difficult to see in the short term.
This is brilliant! Love this man and his ideas! In Australia we have a man, Johnny Briggs, who is trying to bridge a similar issue in Australia. The best thing he says is that poverty is not culture and to not judge a black man's culture by his poverty and the way that might be represented (alcoholism etc). My comment might not be right on point but I loved this conversation and it made me think of the work Johnny Briggs is doing...
Why are Seniors paying Taxes on the Social Scrutiny, we already paid Taxes on this money when we earned it, this is taxation without representation, I didn't agree to this, and neither did any other retired senior. I had to go back to work at 73 yrs old to be able to pay for food and bills by the last week of the month, or charge it on a credit card, which is the kiss of death, because the bill comes due with interest. I worked solid for 50 yrs. with once having a job that I got a 2 weeks off for vacation. These capitalist need to pay there fare share, and this is not unreasonable.
I've only heard of people distancing themselves from negative people. While Kamala should be talking about her policy and views for direction for the country, she doesn't need to distance herself from Biden. I'd rather see Biden talk about the changes she wants to policy and for US growth and talk about how they show she will be a president for the people. Biden's negative was his age and his stepping aside showed what true leadership and patriotism are. Kamala can continue to be positive about Joe, to thank him (she's done it a lot) and he can continue to be positive about her and show support. A message of handing our great country over to a strong leader with a vision of growth and prosperity for all Americans. I think Biden setting aside his own ambitions and power is positively viewed by most of the country. Build on that. Biden started built the runway and Harris will launch us.
Biden did a fantastic job of bringing the country back to its feet after covid and the the Trump debacle. Kamala will continue his work, but the gazillionaires aren't going to like it. Prepare to hear screams and tears from the Republicans who look after the rich and lie to the poor.
I don’t think she is trying to distance herself from Biden, w the 1 exception being his stance on Israel; his support for Israel is seemingly based on his nostalgia for the past leadership & policies of Israel, as well as what Israel itself has meant, post WWII - not Israel under Netanyahu. The savagery taking place in Gaza by the IDF, under Netanyahu’s direction, is so horrific, even Israelis & their media have been enormously more critical than Biden has been.
If you think its cheaper to own a home than rent, just wait. Mortgage payments are basically for life, they are as big as rent payments plus you pay taxes, insurance, and pay for all the upkeep (roof, HVAC, lawn, repairs, everything). Unless you want Kamala to buy you a house and then pay all your taxes and upkeep. Thats fine with me as long as I get one too, lol.
The real estate business was ruined when this country decided it's okay to sell to corporations, including overseas investors. Messed up the market, big time.
@@annakingry9157 the Plandemic moratoriums bankrupted all the middle class owned rentals in many big cities and allowed corporate investors like Blackrock to take over whole neighborhoods, under the guise of "don't pay your rent!". It was deliberate. Funny how Federal stimulus checks went out in one weekend, but it took up to two years to get rent assistance out. By then many had been busted and taken by vulture capitalists. Tenants credit was ruined too so they'd never qualify for mortgages, but they didn't care about that either. Love how they shut down the eviction courts so nobody could even get a judge to hear cases to decide who was at fault or if people were lying about not being able to pay their rent. They don't want blue collar people being landlords. No more Fred Mertzes. Make everyone wage slaves, or bank slaves...... raise those property taxes to make it impossible. you will own nothing
Michael you should have stuck to "How do you do that?" with Eliz Warren. That's the tough question, but you switched to the easier "how do you choose which company to go after"----she answered that, but not the first part.
It's not that complicated - If your company is reporting record profits year after year, then you're charging too much. If you're raising your prices to get those record profits, you're gouging. The Pandemic has been over for over 2 years.... "Supply Chain problems " & "Production Costs" are excuses that have worn very, very thin... And cutting "costs" by laying off employees is counter-productive to boosting your brand and is exploitation. Monopolies should be broken up, just like "The Big Bell" was.
I shop at a store that has boneless chicken breast at sometimes 1.49 a pound and has less fat and waste than Perdue at 2.99 a lb plus I get a senior discount of 5% that the larger stores that sell Purdue do not offer. Corporate greed is all I can come up with.
I didn't mean to apply they were the same. Just that "distancing" in the negative way isn't needed. Her approach can be promoted while still respecting Boden and he support her.
What does Trump have to do with it? First he couldn't keep a promise if his LIFE DEPENDED ON IT. Only honorable, ethical people keep promises and TRUMP IS NEITHER
Always remember - record revenues is inflation. Record profits are not. If the profit margin increases, that means that revenues increased more than costs.
I just wish that economics classes were mandatory for all people before they can graduate high school because so many people are ignorant of the economy and continue to blame/credit presidents for everything going on in their pockets. Education is important because companies are getting away free of any accountability.
The ignorance is appalling. So many don't seem to even know how gov't is divided in responsibilies and powers. That's why Trump gets the King vote. They think the Pres is in charge of everything. The rest of the gov't is just window dressing???
You need to go after the large corp investors and venture capitalists to curb home prices. If you give 25k of taxpayer money you will just raise home prices by 25k since there is no incentive on either side to lower the price if there is free money and you are bidding against a more wealthy buyer: the only certain thing is an increase in government debt. If you try to regulate food prices you will end up like Venezuela in 2 years. I am not an economist but am average Joe that has access to the internet and simply looked up these things happening before...not reading or listening to an expert that got us to this point and mess. Thank you internet for supplying a remedy for the cool aid
Only the president gets any of this legislation approved. If neither President Trump nor Kamala Harris publicly and specifically addresses these issues, I would be very skeptical.
Based on what I just saw, neither of them said anything about anything specific or how they will accomplish it. Multiple people have reported that price gouging has not been widely. we already have laws to stop it,so if that's so, would this even matter anyway? Multiple top economists on both sides have said that the dow payment assistance would just cause prices to rise because there's more money out there, which would just increase rates. These things have happened in the past and never worked.
The big sneaky factor in addition to gouging has been shrink-flation. They are also cutting us short for their profits!!! Small business also pay the price and blame it on wage hikes. But it’s price gouging!!! Greed needs to be controlled…😡😡😡
European here: I can't say it often enough, a political system set up to grant easy access to healthcare for every person living in the country regardless of their passport or migration status is NOT communism. We still have privately owned and operated hospitals, doctors with private offices outside the social security system, private health insurance (in addition to mandatory social insurance), and no one here has ever had to go into medical bankruptcy. At the same time, this country runs on capitalist principles with strong constitutional protection of property rights and free (if regulated) enterprise.
