There seemed to be some passive aggressiveness during the severe weather update Friday morning between Mayor John Whitmire and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo after they made their first joint press conference.
she has a lot of nerve I think he kept it cool for how disrespectful she was acting I am so sick of seeing our leaders behaving like this I will not vote for her
I was thinking the same thing. I mean, aren't most Spanish speakers really big on giving grace and respect to elders? Hey I'm not saying everything is on Hidalgo, I'm sure behind the scenes Whitmire has said or done stuff too. There's definitely some bad blood between these two. Watching the whole thing, it's hard to find one person who was "more in the wrong". But I'm going to put it on more on Hidalgo being like granddaughter age to Whitmire that it would be nice to give that grace and respect to a vast elder. I voted for both these people, and I will say that Mayor Whitmire at least praised Hidalgo first, and then she interrupted him to push the Spanish translation. I mean, this isn't 1978, who the hell still watches the evening news on the regular anyway. People today get their updates from phone or social media alerts, and Spanish speakers have apps for that.
Wow embarrassing! What kind of leaders do we have in this country? Zero respect! simple rule when someone is talking you don’t talk. Wait till they finish.
The language in America is English, no need to repeat the entire speech in a different language and why so disrespectful to the Mayor of Houston. Have your hissy fit in private and not while the cameras are running during a Major Press Conference. Such childish behavior.
What a racist thing to say, in Houston 90% is made up of Hispanics! They deserve to know what is going on.. She was standing up for us LATINOS because people LIKE THE MAYOR won’t do it. please educate yourself on who MADE AMERICA, Because it was not WHITE PEOPLE!!?!?
She is a spoiled brat, I met her, she comes from a rich Colombian family, she is not even from Houston, her dad has strong political connections that's why I believe they had the funding and the power to put her there
@@AspiePilo82 County judge not judge judy.....that press conference was held in the building she in charge of do your research before committing on a topic you have no knowledge of
She is not accused of misappropriation of funds. She asked for bids to be submitted, which she didn't have to do. She had the authority to choose whoever she wanted. She didn't have to open it to bids.
Is it just me or did that seem like a scene right out of Charles Schulz Peanuts where Lucy is telling Charlie Brown, “Listen Kid, you aren’t the one that needs to be talking about this; that’s why I am here.” Wow
First of all you don't tell the Public on TV that this is a Disaster. They all ready know. She should have said it differently. Instead of embarrassing the Public officials of Houston. Dora s Not a good leader and it shows.
Of course a lot of our population is Latinos so they deserve to know what’s going on as well. John just wanted to control something he could not. Lina acted properly.
I remember being left without power for a week when that storm came across the spring area winds about 90 miles an hour pine trees went down like dominoes
Hidalgo is not respectful to her elders who are more insightful which is quite disappointing and honestly is anyone interested in hearing 1 word that she says?
Dawg she just totally interrupted for no reason and he was being very professional. When she started being difficult he was just like "yeah whatever go ahead and talk I'm too old for this nonsense" lol. She's very terrible.
I never knew a judge had so much power until Hidalgo got put in charge. I have never seen the Mayor of New York, Chicago, LA, or any mayor answer to a judge.
Why didn't you show the full clip from the conference, kprc? Where she agreed to Whitmire's request to let others provide updates? Do you have a link to the full video????
In the middle of a disaster lina would be the one to take charge but the mayor has an ego that's terrible in an emergency!! Omg the approval? Gosh even when it's flooding south of houston, there needs to be a mayor approval!!
That was the most disrespectful words i have ever heard ,from my leadres and hardy anyone ,commented on the situation ,,she has no respect ,she is probably worst at private meetings, this was public ,she does not deserve to stand in the podium amd represent any Houstonians .gery rude ,i was so hirt and disappointed 😞 the mayor was very respectful to her and he want to explain in detail which is very good ,he takes his time
The entire county was impacted not just the city. She may have her challenges but she was right in this instance. He seemed quite petty. Prayers for us...
Why are all these comments against hildalgo??!! She setup the press conference, invited whitmire to participate and he acts like he’s running it. Whitmire is a good ole boy who clearly doesn’t respect Hidalgo bc she’s a young latina who endorsed his opponent in the mayoral race.
The mayor is sounding like an idiot. No empathy for people’s loss. Police and Firefighters and first responders do their job, so does Harris county officers and responders. When the city is recovered praise all around to everyone, city and county, Centerpoint, etc.
You sound like an idiot. He's speaking in a professional manner and you take that as him not caring about the citizens that he governs? Go back to school you fool.
Just,So Unprofessional & immature,Mayor,Good thing i Live outside of this County Feel SORRY f/all the Hous tonians Suffering frm. this Disaster. Let her Do her Job& put aside UR Prejudice & political jealouses, this will NOT Solve Houston Probs & current Disaster, people lost their Lives & many more things & we just frm. This Comment Racism is Alive & Well..in Hou.Tx...Shame U !
Male masochist ego problems in public are just embarrassing...hard to fix problems if you think you are better than folks you work with .. Houston deserves better Mayor
I think the mayor should understand that what she was trying to do was give the same respect to the Latin community, she said it herself and clearly everyone missed it, he didn’t care if the Latin community understood what is going on. We pay taxes just like white folk do and a lot of us have papers and need to understand the seriousness of this and that’s what she’s trying to explain to the mayor and he got disrespectful.. Linda is the only person who I see translating everything to the people who don’t know English.
Applause for what, exactly? As a Mexican-American woman, I'm extremely embarrassed to be represented by her. She showed no respect, no tact, no professionalism. It seems to me like she loves attention and conflict. During COVID when people were constantly criticizing her, I thought it was unfair. But she's proven all those people right. Life isn't an episode of reality tv where the more ridiculous you act, the better.
You go girl. Put him in his place. Not only the white English speaking residents need to be taken care of, but also the Spanish speaking Latino resident. Equal protection for all. White is not above Brown.
She interrupted him and the order of events and started whining making it about herself. She is a child, he is an adult. Only a small mind watches this and makes it about race
That mayor NVR gave a fk about us . I dunno who voted for him but u voted wrong he's not a good person and y'all gonna learn the hard way it's not even a joke . I wish we had better options we really didn't but we losing Houston
@@jjohn713- So far John has been surrounded with chaos and disorganization. He looks and sounds drunk AALL THE TIME. Many ppl really dislike him in spite of what his paid cheerleaders say. He’s a dirty looking, alcoholic Trump-wannabe. What he’ll never be.😂
Awesome! I love Lina for sticking up for us Latinos that are always forgotten, left behind in the dark. I wish she could run every single office in our city

I want to hear it in spanish… sorry dude… is not 1978… now we have the numbers and reign in construction, warehousing, transportation, and more. Then, you use your app!
@@petepotr4078 "is not 1978, then use your app!". What the hell are you talking about? You took what I said, but your context makes no sense. So I'm willing to cede that Whitmire might have said or done something behind that scenes that we don't know about, I'm willing to acknowledge that Whitmire has a hand in provoking Hidalgo, but I think it's both of them. Why do you just blindly take Hidalgo's side and make this so racial? Again, aren't most Spanish speakers all about giving respect and grace to an older person, especially a vast elder?
@@petepotr4078 You made zero effort to discuss this in a civil manner, you have no effective rebuttal. You just insult me and call me a troll. RU-vid, you see this? Are you going to let this pass?
Of course they are but The mayor was quick to move on without letting her translate to the Hispanic community, she does this in every time there is a natural disaster and I respect her for that because I have Spanish speaking parents and no app is going to translate this to them. I’m sorry that our community is uncomfortable to you but maybe you should speak to someone because we pay taxes just like you and we have papers just like you and we also work twice as hard. This is a natural disaster and everyone deserves to understand the seriousness of this, The mayor was wrong in this and yes she should have approached it differently but if she didn’t speak up he would have turned the page and moved on. American English people weren’t the only ones affected by this tornado. Everybody was. Show some kindness at least for this situation.
