Pay them what they're Worth isn't hard!

Well it seems as if the town officials think the fire fighters are not worth as much the town officials, if there was a pay increase I would think the officials would jump in first and say bugger the fire fighters, town officials should be ashamed of what they earn, I am employed as a prison officer in Australia and the starting wage is around $70000, I do work for a private prison. Fire fighters any where in the world are all UNDER PAID .

$41,000 to start? Do you get food stamps with that?

Most firefighters, make less than 41k lol. More info 32k range
@Grayarea321

@@thepressurepack3777 that’s very sad, pays more out here in the Denver Metro. 41k is not a livable wage. Entry level probie started at $64,000 in 2022 at my department, F/F-medic w/10 years was at $105,000 last year. By the way all the departments out here are looking for F/F Medics, many or most offering laterals fyi.

@@Grayarea321 it was my childhood dream, worked 24/48…for several years. Brought home $350 after taxes. That was 2 years ago, Changed career since LOL

@@thepressurepack3777 that’s a shame, they need to pay a livable wage, otherwise it’s a revolving door. I was lucky, I had 39 years full time, great career, years before that as a volunteer.

It appears from an outside perspective that towns set there own wage rates instead of having a State or National agreement. This would never happen in most other countries where they are bound by awards and certified agreements.

Pay more and you wouldn't have these shortages. COVID showed that a lot of responders are severely underpaid, and alot of them are leaving the field for other jobs with less stress. For comparison, I work in a medium sized Texas Department and I make $87,000 for 3 years of experience, after leaving my last department that paid $55,000 after 4 years experience. You hvae to PAY TO PLAY!

Do they ever mention the MANDATORY JAB? That caused this..

The pay is probably a bigger factor than people who work in a patient-facing capacity needing to get vaccinated. Pay in many areas is unfortunately low for the risks, stresses, and education needed for such a job.

Their is not Firefighter shortage…Toxic Leadership, Low Pay, Ridiculous Hours of Training, High School Level Politics, Low Morale and Scapegoating your Employees all lead to this. Plenty of people want to be firefighters, but things seriously need to change.

When you have an emergency you dial 911 and they respond the bigger issue is why the city is not paying their firefighters.

If they work 24/48 that comes out to $14.08 per hour. Not very competitive pay.

My 2¢... Bloomington MN was the largest volunteer fd in USA over 100,000 residents,had 5 stations,then 1993 Mall of merica'opened,slowly switch to paid dept,90%of USA is volunteer depts...I realize bigger cities have to be paid/benefits

I tried to become a paid firefighter . But most places make it to difficult . I could do the work but scored low on the test that put me out . Because I don’t test well . But I did well for volunteer station I was with . 41,000 a year is not to good if your young man or woman with a family or just on own . It’s funny they do a pay study . When the problem is obvious . Lol .
