​​@@natwestrowleymile Nah, he means jumping 3rd last he thought he'd win 40 lengths. After the last Kauto Star was actually making inroads and finished nearer than had looked likely. So he knew on the run in that something had gone wrong towards the end of the race.

@@heron9524 - hey, have a heart.Stable had "2 superstars" to be trained for that day.Everyone re owners have to get their turn - it's an expensive game.Winner was top horse re Henessy. Kauto Star wasn't trained to win that day. Kauto would have have blown Denman out of the water, any 3 races,equal weights no problem in prime times..But I'm a fan of Denman too.Denman v Kauto Star ? - it's no contest

No problem. I've plenty of heart. Kauto was a superstar, one of the greats no doubt. Out of 4 races against eachother. Denman finished ahead of him 3 times.2008 was one of the most ruthless galloping performances i have ever seen from a horse.He had the field off the bridle 3 out. The one time kauto did beat him in 2009 was when denman was only back after a serious operation on an irregular heart beat. Clive smith kauto's owner hardly told paul nichols in 2008 to let denman win. Of course kauto was trained to win in 2008 he was beaten by the better horse on the day in Denman. I've read nichols an ruby's autobiography they said they underestimated Denman. Also Denman won 2 hennessey on top weight in 2009 he won on 11st 12 pound s against a top class field. Kauto could never win a hanicap race as they tried once with him an he failed. Kauto on a flat track or over 2 miles will beat denman hands down. But in a handicap or around cheltenham Denman is superior. Both horses were once in a generation. Lucky to have witnessed both.

@@heron9524 5 King George's.Only horse to regain Gold Cup etc. Such consistency highlights the peculiarity of Denman year.Was odd - as same trainer trained both.Of course they underestimated Denman they would say that in any case.No, it was Denmans turn pure and simple - there is no way Denmans successes over Kauto were anything other than mere training and trials.Equally prepared - Kautos turn of foot wins over Denman every time.Kauto could lay up with anything.And it's owner already had much success - it was Denmans turn.Taking Denmans win in GCup over KStar it would have had to have done track record to prove superior to a fit Kauto Star.

How is that peculiar!! I respect kauto star as i have praised him in my previous message that you read. Everyones entitled to their opinion. Your playing down Denmans achievement in 2008 gold cup saying that it was his turn out of being fair to the owners and the expense of keeping horses in training. Paul barber by the way already owned a gold cup winner in see more business.
