Loved Harry and Basil separately in their individual shows but love them together. Can’t remember seeing this episode as a kid but then we are talking over thirty years ago… I’m 49 this year ☺️😊
We loved Basil Brush as kids. We called CocaCola PokeyPola, even as adults that was our joke word for going to the pub for a pint. Harry H Corbett was a great entertainer.
understand this......i am a massive Steptoe fan......AND of Harry H. Corbett.....and Wilfred Bramble...... But corbett, Although , a massively Respected actor....... Had sometimes a limited vocal delivery......AS I roles Pre Steptoe.......the almost cockney accent WAS PRESENT in earlier Film and Tv Roles..before Septoes debut in 1962....... The "OH GAWD"... the Harryisims......were there in the voice anyway.......And we are constantly being told...Harrys career POST Steptoe was to Blame....as he was ALWAYS offered Steptoeish...kinds of Parts......Watch him in Silver Dream Racer.... The sitcom Grundy......and as a guest star in POTTER.... but the accent Problem goes back further....Maybe the actors Range was not that great as we have been told.....!!!!!!!! SORRY HARRY............!!!!!!!
Well, at least I now know what the H stands for in Harry H Corbett......HAIR. Harry's barnet seems to have a life of its own. It definitely isn't his own. Very distracting.
Who wrote the Basil Brush show? Looking it up on IMDB, I see that it was principally a man called George Martin (if IMDB is to be believed on something as old and out of the way as this, of course). Watching these Basil clips on RU-vid, particularly the songs, I see how much he picked up and refreshed from the music hall to give Basil material. In a strange way, this old-fashioned fox reached back to a much older time still. Anyway, I loved it then and I love it now. I'm convinced Basil is the reason I speak RP today!
