Promo clip for "Happy Birthday" by Nigerian musician Harry Mosco (a.k.a. Mr. Funkees). Recorded and shot in London for the LP Sugar Cane Baby, released in 1981 on Samba Records. (Apologies for the messed-up colour.)
Wow! Brings back sweet memories of the good old days when i was a teen I would always leave whatever I was engaged in to view this tape anytime it's played on our black and white telly on NTV now NTA. Mehn Harry Mosco was the funkiest of all the local artistes one of my favorite music icons and role model inspired me a lot on my music career.. Very great artiste and a real musician an instrumentalist very original and a pacesetter in African pop. Last time we met was when he said he heard our show live on Raypower FM and then hurriedly rushed to come see us the band performing at Water Parks Ikeja in February 1998.. I feel so sad learning just a moment ago that he'd passed on Rest in peace Uncle Harry Mosco
What a classic. Man you are too much!! Where did this come from. I remember grooving to this and Felix Liberty, Wings, Apostles etc. in the 80's. Super!!! Thanks much.
So funky! Amazing - this could have been Dynasty playing, they released similar sounds in 1981 also! Harry Mosco et al were bang up to date at the time!
Nothing against this track - I used to love these guys back in the day - but you have to admit they copied American music wholesale on this one. It could just as easily have been recorded by a band from Detroit. There's NO ORIGINALITY in this, none. Good track though.....I guess they were gunning mainly for the international market.
