Had the honor of talking to Harry many times at Beatlefest, back home in Los Angeles and I could really feel his pain, over the loss of John. I promised him that I would carry on the campaign to help Stop The Senseless Gun Violence an I still am

Thank you! ❤️ I too am a huge Harry Nilsson fan!! So sad that he blew his voice out to one up Lennon. It was really cool to see The Troubadour from the street view. Fun seeing Gene's sweet ride too!

Great vlog. I remember watching the Smothers Brothers as a kid. I guess they made up cause Tommy Smothers was at Lennon's bed in for peace in Toronto on the video for Give peace a chance. They say Lennon was an mean and nasty drunk. Harry was also best friends with Ringo. Elton John played his first ever US gig there. my neighbor was at that gig as a young girl. Great history. The 70's was such a great time for music! especially in L.A. You do a great job showing us the history. keep em coming.

John's mistress /Gf claimed he try to strangle her one night whilst he was drunk. Yea alcohol did not mix well with him.

The Troubadour thing happened in '74 and his peace event was in 1970... no they didn't make up

@@jonesy2111 Lennon and Nilsson sent flowers and a letter of apology to the Smothers Brothers. The SBs later spoke of Lennon without rancor.

Spent many wonderful evenings there when I was living back home. Is so full of rock history. Elton made his major debut here. Got to talk to Harry many times at Beatlefest from 81 to 93. Real great guy with a compassionate heart. Still have Harry's autograph. Wonderful memories . With all the massive fires, my home town is in bad need of rain now.. Hoping the mud slides aren't really bad

Love the Troubadour! In my poor memory The Tropicana was right next door, but maybe my old memories fail me. I went there once, in hopes of meeting Tom Waits, (I was 21 or so what can I say). His stepmother owned some appts in Seattle, and I told my friend who lived there, of my love of Tom Waits music. This girl told his Stepmother and mentioned that I was going to be in LA. His stepmom gave me Toms actual address at the Tropicana and told me to stop and say hi. I kid you not. I walked right up to the apt and knocked ( again, I was very young and it seemed like a perfectly normal thing to do at the time). Chuck E Weiss answered and we ended up talking. He said Tom was in Europe touring, who knows. Anyway, we were sitting outside and he said he was headed to the Troubadour and asked if I wanted to go too. Of course I did. I didn’t stay long, but in my memory the Tropicana was right next door to the Troubadour?? I had some pix from that day, but lost them somewhere along the way. Is my memory just totally wrong??

Great history. I seem to recall seeing footage of Lennon, in a white suit, overturning a table at some establishment. Always thought it was here. Thanks for the tour. Harry🤘

Great Vlog ! You have a very special way of presenting topics, a certain awareness and intelligence of the environment. Oh and the end part catching the Kiss member in his car was just to much hahaha... excellent.

Hi Jordan, my first time visiting one of your videos. I am a senior, 69 years old, and used to go to the Troubadour in 1968 to 1971. In those days they had more beginning artists and the Troubadour used to give them a leg up. It was the Whiskey A Go Go that got the big rock and roll acts. I had my own apartment in L.A. starting in early 1969, summer of 1969 we landed on the moon. The rents weren't so bad then. I lived in Silver Lake and up near the Farmer's Market near Wilshire and Fairfax. I had low rental rates in both places -- $100 to $200 a month. Of course our salary was a lot less then too. I thought I made good money when I brought home $400 to $600 a month. You could buy five McDonalds hamburgers for a dollar. I enjoyed my visit with you.

Your comment about the rent costs at the time, reminds me of Neil Diamond singing about LA's low rents at the time. 😊

Saw Gene Simmons waiting for the elevator in Vegas about 4 years back at the New York New York. All I can say is, it's a good idea Kiss hides their actual mugs under all that make up.

Fun fact: Pete Ham of Badfinger wrote " Without you" that was a hit for Harry Nilsson. Also Badfinger was signed to Apple records which was owned by the Beatles.
@plk5520
@plk5520 5 лет назад
More fun facts; Paul McCartney wrote a song called "Come and Get It", which he gave to Badfinger to help them break into the charts. It worked. While at a party Harry Nilsson heard "Without You", on a Badfinger record, where it was the last song on the B side of an album they released in 1970. He took the song and put his own arrangement on it which was released as a single that became a worldwide hit.

Yep! Elton John made his American debut here August 25, 1970, and he was a smash hit with the crowd and critics. And the rest, as they say, is history. (His biopic "Rocketman" opens this week: May 2019.)

I have Nilsson Schmilsson album vinyl. Some of the funniest inappropriate songs ever written that can be played in a public place. My favorite is “I’d rather be dead then wet my bed” featuring London senior choir.

He'd come to town and he'd pound her for a couple of days, then he'd sail across the bubbly waves. Those were happier days. ;) True most innaprorpriate songs you could sing in public :)

John Lennon was getting too wild, so Yoko said if you want a kid with me, you need to leave. So, she kicked him out and sent him with her assistant May Pang to watch after him. When Harry blew his vocal chords, he was recording the album "Pussy Cats" that John was producing. Rumors are Harry had a bucket in the studio to spit blood into. And it wasn't till John went to MSG to sing with Elton John did he reunite with Yoko and they conceived Sean not too long after.
