While I appreciate Kronos Quartet's recording, the original instrumentation and vocals are vastly superior.

agreed! i barely made it thru the first movement of the KQ's version - the original is peerless!

I came here while reading the book "The Life of Miles Davis." He was intrigued by the composer Harry Partch, whom he was introduced to by Gil Evans, who also turned Miles on to John Cage. Thank you for sharing this document with the world...I'm glad I found it.

This is really interesting! Harry Partch is very resourceful and creative. I thought his music and talent was really cool when I first heard about him. He had nothing and thought of amazing ways to entertain, make money, and be successful.Harry Partch never gave up or felt sorry for himself. He is a great role model. GO HARRY PARTCH!!! :)

I don't agree with many of his ideas on tuning systems, but I've always enjoyed his originality.

I discovered Harry Partch about the same time I discovered Woody Guthrie. Both are original, creative voices. US Highball has stayed in my head for 50 years, and it's great to hear it again.

+Tom Franke Pretty funny. I was super into harry partch in high school and haven't listened to him in a long time. this was the first piece I came back to! Harry Partch and Woodie Guthrie? That sounds like a pretty unlikely pair. How'd it come about?

+Garrett Zeff well, i think that a person that likes harry is more likely to have a broader taste than the common guy. I enjoy Partch, Stockhausen, Woody, Dylan, Katy Perry, Autechre...

see below, but also: he made them all himself, so it's no instruments you'll recognise by and large

this is from the 40s, not?

Earlier. The 30s I believe. He was a hobo for almost 10 year in which time he did not write any music at all.
