A lot of Neville's issues with performing magic was not just his lack of confidence, but he, like Ron, didn't have a wand that chose him. Neville has his father's wand until it was broken during the battle of the department of mysteries. Once he gets his own wand, his magic shines through.
@musichere3287
@musichere3287 6 месяцев назад
The wand is pretty insignificant in Neville's case. It was mostly about lack of confidence. Neville gets a new wand at the start of HBP, and he doesn't experience any significant magical development in that book. OotP is the book where he grows like crazy, and becomes the 2nd fastest person to learn the Shield charm in DA for instance. He did that with his old wand.

I love that you spotted that a Weasley was helping Fudge. That’s Percy, the prefect from the first movie. In the books, he sides with the ministry against his own family and it’s a pretty big plot point. In the movies, they show him doing it but leave out all of the events and explanations that go along with it.
@clover2739
@clover2739 9 месяцев назад
I always found that is strange, Percy was pretty prominent in the book and they had him disappear and suddenly with fudge… like it’s impressive they noticed because most people don’t notice that’s a weasley, since he’s basically cut out and then they don’t mention it again or explain nothing. I don’t really get what they were thinking with that

The archway Sirius floated away through is called the Veil and its a literal one way portal to the afterlife, one of the many "mysteries" the Ministry studies in the Dept. Of Mysteries. Walk through it and you're dead and gone instantly without a trace. Similar to the Thestrals, only Luna and Harry could hear the whispers of the dead on the other side. The way they did this death in the film with Bellatrix hitting him with Avada Kedavra and THEN him getting sucked up by the Veil due to being killed in near proximity actually WAS them giving it a moment. In the book, Bellatrix just blasts Sirius through the Veil with a different spell, just makes him fall through it and he's just...gone, unceremoniously.

Imelda Staunton did a fantastic job playing a character who was more hated than the story's main villain. The fact that Umbridge was more hated than Voldemort himself makes the scene where she gets carried away like firewood by the centaurs that much more satisfying. When I first saw Grawp, I thought he looked like the illustrated kid on the cover of MAD Magazine, Alfred E. Neuman. Also.... Cornelius Fudge, after seeing Voldemort: He's back.... Me, sarcastically: *Gee, if only someone said that the previous year and at the hearing. Oh, wait....*

Severus Snape actually did tell the Order of the Phoenix about what Harry told him. He called grimwald place and saw that serious black was perfectly safe and not in any danger, he tried to find Harry but since they left the Dark Forest flying he was not able to see Harry ahead of time to tell him that is Godfather was perfectly fine. So he got word to the order and that is how the Order of the Phoenix and serious black knew that the kids were at the ministry. The Severus is still not 100% a good guy he bullied Neville day after day and at one point tried to kill Neville's toad
@rafaelmatos5851
@rafaelmatos5851 10 месяцев назад
Umbridge is even worse on the books. Like, for real... You know the two Dementors that attack Harry? It was not Voldemort who sent them... it was Umbridge. She sent them because, to her, it was a win-win situation: either Harry would have his soul sucked or he would use magic to defend himself and be expelled. And her rivalry with Professor McGonagall is even more intense in the books. Like... McGonagall was basically the only teacher to not be affraid to put Umbridge on her place and, when Umbridge went to evaluate McGonagall's classes, the latter wouldn't acknowledge her presence until the former wouldn't give her any other option... And then there's how McGonagall would have Harry's back against Umbridge. For example, during the first DADA class, when Harry got detention, Umbridge sent him to McGonagall (since she is the head of Gryffindor) and, instead of getting upset with him, she just offered him a biscuit and an advice to not upset Umbridge. And, during Harry's interview to decide his future once he left Hogwarts, McGonagall entered in a heated argument with Umbridge, where the former proclaimed she would help Harry to become an Auror, even if she had to train him herself. That scene was awesome! A shame it was not included. And then there's how, after Umbridge became Headmistress, McGonagall (along with the other teachers) would overlook the students causing trouble... and sometimes even helping a bit.
@jeansnow1116

Many great scenes of this amazing book were not included in this movie! It's probably the least faithful adaptation among all of them with the next movie also was not very well adapted. With all the memories missing etc.

The Ministry was able to detect Harry's use of magic because, as an underage wizard, he has something called Trace which can detect the use of magic around the young wizard. However, it has a big flaw, since it can detect magic, but not its source. So, the Ministry is able to know when and where magic happens around the wizard and what kind it is, but not who performed it. That flaw had caused Harry to get into some trouble during the summer after his first year, due to Dobby's actions. The use of the Trace is more directed towards young wizards that live with Muggles (like Harry and Hermione) in order to keep the existence of magic a secret, since it becomes useless with young wizards from wizarding families. With the latters, the Ministry entrusts on their parents and/or guardians to keep them from using magic outside the school.

Luna Lovegood is a year below the main characters and in a different house (Ravenclaw). So not just so familiar to them. Ron and Harry don't know her but Hermione does. She's a bit eccentric and as a result this has led people to nickname her loony and poke fun at her a bit. Hermione probably normally only calls her loony behind her back but nearly introduced her as that to the guys. She caught herself in the middle of saying it and backtracked to say the right name. That's why her introduction was so weird.

This isn't mentioned in the movies but the reason Voldemort looks the way he does is for two reasons. He performed countless illegal magic experiments on himself to enhance his powers and he also wanted to erase all resemblance to his muggle-born father which he is deeply ashamed of. He briefly mentioned his disgust for his father in the Chamber of Secrets movie, which is why he didn't want to share the same name as his father Tom Riddle. His childhood and backstory goes into much deeper detail in the books.

16:49 - I don't know if anyone has already answered here, but Harry has to go back to the Dursleys because the old magic (Lily's sacrifice) that saved Harry as a baby still protects him, because it's blood magic and it's still alive because of Aunt Petunia's blood. Voldermort will never be able to do anything to Harry inside the Dursleys' house (because of that and other spells that Dumblodore cast). 56:00 - The power to read minds is called Occlumency and only very powerful wizards with a lot of training can read minds. It's not a common thing to do. 59:30 - Sirius' mother used a permanent spell on the walls and other artifacts, so they couldn't remove the wallpaper. 01:01:57 - I don't think anyone commented on the other video, but after the arrest of Barto Crounch Jr (who was an only child) his mother became very ill and when she was already 'terminally', she begged to Barto Crounch Senior to release her son, so they made a 'swap'. Mrs. Crounch entered Azkaban to visit her son, carrying a Polyjuice potion bottle, and inside she took Junior's form and he took hers. She stayed in her son's place (always taking the potion) until his death and Junior 'became prisioner' at home (under the Imperius Curse casted by his father), for many years until he managed to 'break free' (a long story). In short, that's how he 'escaped' from Azkaban. 1:02:48 - Neville's parents are still in St Mungus hospital today, but due to the after-effects of the torture, they don't recognize anyone, not even their own son, like a kind of Alzheimer's. 1:06:26 - Cho's friend Marieta (who only joined the Armada because Cho asked her to) was actually the one who snitched on the Armada. She didn't believe much in Harry and her mother worked at the ministry, so she was afraid of her mother losing her job and ended up snitching on everyone. 1:23:48 - The battle at the Ministry was actually quite different from what was shown in the movie, Hermione almost died, Neville's two legs were broken and much more (particularly one of the things I like least about the adaptation). As far as the prophecy is concerned, only the one it's about, could remove it from where it was, and no one other than Harry and Voldemort could also hear it. As Voldemort was a bit 'low-key' he didn't want to appear at the ministry, but he needed to get the prophecy because it contained what he thought 'was the key' to why he couldn't kill Harry, since Voldemort only knew parts of it. 1:34:32 - Unforgivable curses are forbidden and anyone who uses them goes straight to Azkaban, so good wizards don't use them. Except for the 'Avada Kedavra', the other two can be blocked. To defend yourself from the 'Avada' you can use things, strong objects (like the stone columns Dumbledore used during the battle) as a 'shield'. Only Aurors were allowed to use the Avada Kedavra and only if the ministry authorizes(wich was done during the first and second Wizarding War).

Re: the weird scene where Hermione introduced Luna Lovegood was awkwardly written and filmed (especially to anyone who's read the books) and there's a rather simple explanation behind it: If you replay the scene, you'll hear Hermione call her Loony the first time (instead of Luna). Without reading it in the book, you wouldn't know that Luna is called Loony by the other students out of meanness. It's obviously not a nice name - and especially cruel since she's written as a very nice person. All the more awkward and embarrassing for Hermione to introduce Luna that way. Unfortunately, there are a few scenes in the movies that can leave you scratching your head (that are thoroughly explained in the books)! For example, there's a reason Harry has to live with the Dursleys (which I don't think is ever explained in the films). Same thing with why they don't say Voldemort's name... It's actually pretty mind-boggling why the filmmakers didn't spend a few seconds explaining some things that were in the books, but are left out entirely or just seem confusing in the films. In any case, you can look it all up when you're done!

Sirius' death always gets me, and Harry's scream in agony wasn't exactly a performance, but channeled by Daniel Radcliffe's grief for the loss of his grandfather on that day. This isn’t true. As much as people like to spread this theory online and pass it off as fact. It was his grandmother that died, and yes his scream was probably very raw, but no the scene wss not muted for this reason. The idea of a director muting a scream cos it was “too good” is nonsense. The point of acting is channeling emotions. The director David Yates has said himself that the scream was muted for stylistic reasons which makes sense cos the silence definitely adds a layer of grief by making the quick death and Daniel Radcliffe’s facial expressions have a greater weight to them. It’s the same as when people spread the rumour that Evanna lynch got the role of Luna cos she had an eating disorder and JK promised her a role if she got it under control. People take small bits of factual information and form a more emotional story out of it. So no, the scream was not muted cos it was “too real” or “too good” - that’s the whole point of acting.

That means Harry & Draco Malfoy are related because Draco's mom Narcissa Malfoy & Bellatrix LeStrange are 2 of 3 sisters born to 1 branch of the Black family. Sirius & his brother Regulus were born to a different branch of the Black family. Also another character you've seen that's part of the Black family is Nymphadora Tonks. Her mother was the other sister to Narcissa & Bellatrix, but she left home once an adult & married a muggle for love rather than keep supporting their family's prejudiced ways. So like Sirius she was disowned. That makes her daughter who proudly emphasizes her muggle dad's name niece to them & cousin to Draco. And Bellatrix really hates any family member that betrays the Black family teaching. (More about family trees & how they connect is in the books & on Pottermore. It can get confusing.) AND yes, Harry is a halfblood because his mom was muggleborn. The blood categorization system they have treats muggles & muggleborns as the same lowest rank, so will not consider the Potter bloodline "pure" again until his great-grandkids & only if he & the next 2 generations of "halfbloods" have kids with purebloods themselves. Any generation that breaks the purity chain makes it start over for their branch. Hagrid is also halfblood because his dad was a wizard but his mom a giant. (Which brings to mind the question of how exactly that conception is physically possible, because as you see from Grawp, who isn't even grown, the giants are GIANT!) Hagrid's mom left his dad when he was a baby, abandoning her halfbreed child, & returned to live with the giants. So he only remembers being raised by his dad.

It's not Dumbledore, it's Lilly. Lilly sacrificed herself for Harry, hence he was protected while staying home where her blood still dwells. Her sister - Petunia - shares her blood, that's why it had to be the Dursleys. In other case - Dumbledore could put his protective spells anywhere else.

The girl who played Luna (Loonie) was in the hospital for an eating disorder. She got permission to attend a Harry potter book signing. When speaking to JK she let it out about her eating disorder. JK told her if she beat it then she would get her into the movies. Filch was also in the movie Hot Fuzz, not just Game of Thrones. Hot Fuzz is a great comedy. They didn't show that when Aruther was attacked they went to see him in the Hospital, where they ran into Neville who was visiting his parents, who had lost their minds.

I guess what Suzy is saying is that Sirius' death scene should've been allowed to breathe. The movies kind of underplay Sirius and Harry's relationship. In 4th year when Harry was facing tough times and getting bullied and stuff Sirius tried to be there as much as possible. He lived in a cave just outside Hogsmeade and ate rats to survive just so he could be close to Harry. In the books after they all returned from the Ministry Harry had a fit and trashed Dumbledore's office. He was properly grieving and they didn't show it here. He thought that if Dumbledore hadn't kept the prophecy a secret he wouldn't have fallen for Voldemort's fake vision. He even blamed Snape for not helping enough and Kreacher (he did floo Sirius' house and Kreacher lied and said Sirius wasn't home) and carried a real grudge until the last book. He didn't take Sirius' death well at all

The theme in the last film was fathers and sons; in this film, the theme is families. Harry having none, Luna and her father, Sirius being disowned (and a hint about Tonks's mother Andromeda being disowned), the Weasleys and Arthur nearly dying (and the loss of Percy to Ministry propaganda), the hint about the split between Prof Dumbledore and his brother, Hagrid and his half-brother (the giant mother having died). _______________________________________________________________________________________ There is good reason to not include Harry in what the Order is doing. Voldemort imparted some of his abilities to Harry when Voldy tried to kill Harry with the death curse. And Harry has been getting dreams set in real time of the horrible things Voldemort has been doing, like when Harry saw the old muggle caretaker get murdered by Voldemort. Harry and Voldemort has a direct connection, psychically. Harry doesn't know how to shield himself psychically and may not be old enough or aware enough to learn how to shield. So, anything shown or told to Harry is available to Voldemort, meaning they might as well phone up Voldemort and give him the details. Harry is a walking security risk. _______________________________________________________________________________________ Also, the reason no one feels comfortable using Voldemort's name is very practical. In the time just before Voldemort came to kill Harry and his parents, Voldemort was at the height of his influence and powers; this was referred to as the Wizarding War. With Voldemort's return, the Wizarding War becomes the First Wizarding War; this time period becomes the Second Wizarding War. During the First Wizarding War, Voldemort's supporters infiltrated the Ministry of Magic and managed to tweak a Trace spell into creating a Taboo of Voldemort's name. Anyone that speaks Voldemort's name comes to immediate attention and instantly gets a visit from Death Eaters, who then will capture and/or torture and/or kill the one who spoke the name and/or others present and/or family/friends. Voldemort's name was dangerous. There was a cultural PTSD around Voldemort's name felt by anyone who had lived through the First Wizarding War. And there is no reason to doubt that this will return during the Second Wizarding War. _______________________________________________________________________________________ Mrs Figg is a squib. As mentioned in previous comments in another of your reactions, squibs have magical ancestry but no magical abilities. Usually, members of the Wizarding World find suitable employment for them. In Mrs Figg's case, she managed to support herself through the breeding and sales of kneazles. Kneazles are a magical creature related to and similar to cats. They have several characteristics that differ from cats, including size, coloration/patterns, larger pointed ears, and lionlike tails. They are more intelligent and are good at reading the trustworthiness of people. They are capable of interbreeding with cats, but purebred kneazles are more valuable. Squibs in particular have a strong affinity with kneazles and cats (as with Filch and Mrs Norris; Mrs Norris is named after a character in a Jane Austin novel). _______________________________________________________________________________________ Since you ask, dementors are NOT 'under the control of the Ministry of Magic', as Umbrage asserts (but 'control' is her big obsession). Dementors are under the MANAGEMENT of the Ministry of Magic; there's a big difference between 'control' and 'management'. Dementors are not, and never were, human-like creatures; they are a species of magical beast. They are physical beings, but they feed on emotional energy, specifically positive, energizing emotions. They occur naturally in the world, but hidden away. Not much is known about them, including how they breed, but it's known they have a subhuman intelligence and that they are feral animals. The Ministry of Magic was able to convince them to serve as guards at Azkaban with the requirement that they can graze lightly on the emotions of the prisoners kept there, but not feed so deeply that the soul is lost, with an exception. This works as a symbiotic relationship between the Wizarding World and the dementors, as the grazing on the energies of prisoners in Azkaban weaken will, hope, and power sufficiently to completely interfere with prisoners' ability to conceive of or carry out escape plans while also causing such misery and suffering as to deter bad behavior throughout the Wizarding World. The soul CAN be consumed (known as 'The Dementors Kiss) only when the Ministry of Magic gives direction to do so. Having the soul consumed does not harm the body but has the same effect as brain-death; will, personality, motive, and awareness is all gone, leaving the individual passive and ragdoll-like. Dementors were invented by JK Rowling as a personification of the deep depression she suffered during one part of her time of writing the Harry Potter books. If you look at the effects caused by these characters, they mirror what clinical depression feels like. Also, the idea that chocolate would help after being attacked by a dementor smacks of pure science; chocolate famously contains chemicals similar to ones in the brain that give us feelings of love and happiness. What Prof Lupin kept offering Harry wasn't so much candy as it was a restorative. _______________________________________________________________________________________ Has anyone noticed that, after the trial at The Ministry of Magic, after Sirius gives Harry the photo, Harry dreams of seeing Voldemort on the train platform WEARING THE SAME CLOTHES AS DRACO. Just saying... _______________________________________________________________________________________ Here's the deal: Schools have the trickiest red tape of all institutions, and Hogwarts is no different. There's a 12-member Board of Governors who manage the school; Lucius Malfoy is a member of the Board, which is why Draco feels so privileged. Draco can always go to his father is he has a complaint, and his father will come down hard on the school, especially on the Headmaster. Hogwarts is financially supported by the Ministry of Magic; the Ministry pays their bills, offering magical education and training as a benefit of being in the Wizarding World. The purpose of the school is to set a baseline of knowledge and skillset for the upcoming generation while giving them a safe space to practice magic out of sight and awareness of muggles. The school instills the general expectations for how wizards/witches need to comport themselves for the safety of the Wizarding World. Unfortunately, this year the Ministry is attempting to micromanage the school and has assigned a control freak with no recognition or respect for boundaries to do it. She has either been allowed free rein or just assumed free rein to do as she pleases. Given that wizards/witches are pretty freedom-loving beings, this will not end well. _______________________________________________________________________________________ Note: The man in the pub with the goat running around...that's Aberforth Dumbledore, the brother of Prof Albus Dumbledore. Note: Did you notice Ginny's face falling when Hermione says to Harry "Cho couldn't take her eyes off you"? And days later, did you notice that when everyone was leaving the Room of Requirement after their workshop that Ginny hung back to see if she could speak with Harry, but realized he was all attentive to Cho? She looked so sad as she finally left. _______________________________________________________________________________________ Arthur Weasley was attacked and bitten by Voldemort's snake, Nagini. What a lot of people (who didn't read the books or pick it up from other sources) don't know is that Nagini is venomous; the venom halts the blood from coagulating. In a very short time, those bitten by Nagini will quickly bleed to death. Arthur was reached barely in time, taken to St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries (the Wizarding World's hospital), and treated for his wounds. It was touch and go, but after a month of treatments Arthur was finally stable enough to go home. _______________________________________________________________________________________ The Black Family Tree: Sirius is scorched out because he stood up for those not pureblood (the Black family are purebloods). But two more important names on that tree is Bellatrix and Andromeda. There are three sisters in the Black family (1st cousins to Sirius): Narcissa, Bellatrix, and Andromeda; their parents had them marry for political and purity reasons. Narcissa was married off to Lucius Malfoy; she's the mother of Draco. Bellatrix was married off to Rodolphus Lestrange; no love in that match, much complication, and no children. Andromeda is scorched out because she refused to marry unless there was love and found love and marriage with a muggle named Ted Tonks; 'Tonks', the girl with the changing-color hair, is her daughter. _______________________________________________________________________________________ The reason the Weasley Twins were popping all over the building at the Order of the Phoenix is because they had turned 17 years old and are now adults and able to do magic anywhere and any time. And having had their fill of Umbrage, they decided they would follow their entrepreneurial instincts and quit school, which as adults they can legally do. But being who they are, they did not want to go 'quietly'; they decide to go as LEGENDS! Coming generations of Hogwarts students will speak of them for quite some time! And notice, they quite literally break every rule Umbrage has made!

You know, Sirius and Tonks are cousins-once-removed. She is the daughter of Sirius' favorite cousin, Andromeda, who in turn is sister with Bellatrix Lestrange and Narcissa Malfoy (Draco's mom). Both Sirius and Andromeda were casted out of the family, the former for rejecting the family's pure-blood belief and running away and the latter for marrying a Muggle-born wizard (Tonk's dad). Don't worry, not all of Sirius' relatives are bad. For example, his uncle (his mother's brother) was also casted out of the family tree after he was dead for leaving gold on his will to Sirius after the latter left the house.

You are right about the paper they sign being an NDA. It is actually bewitched so that those who signed it and talk about Dumbledore's Army to anyone but the members gets marked with a SNEAK tattoo on their faces. There is a reason though why it was not mentioned in the movies, because in the books they were betrayed not by Cho, but someone else.

Hermione's introduction gets stilted because she catches herself starting to say "Loony", the mean nickname others refer to her by at school, instead of Luna. Not because she uses it, she'd never bully anyone, but because she heard it so much it's what pops in her head 1st. Luna's in Ravenclaw, the "smart & studious" house & was one of the background characters until this book, but of course Hermione being among those at the top of her whole year would be keeping tabs on all the competition. From here on though Luna becomes a friend to Harry & eventually the others. Later on, Harry's daughter is named Lily Luna to honor his mom & her.

1:36:45 in the book, bellatrix uses expelliarmus on Sirius, not avada kadavra. When she hits Sirius, he isn’t dead. He falls backwards and he falls into the empty archway and dies. Because going into the archway takes u to the underworld (or whatever the place of afterlife is called in the books)

15:36 its worth mentioning that in the Harry Potter universe, muggles cannot perceive magic necessarily. Their minds will convince them its something else. So if wizards are flying by on a broomstick, people would just assume its a bird or something flying by. Its like a natural aversion to the supernatural.

though I think, if I remember right - from the books during that scene - Moody put a spell on harry to 'cloak' him that felt like an egg being broken over his head with the tingle of the magic taking effect and that is why the muggles weren't perceiving the wizards on brooms in broad 'daylight'

Veritaserum or "Truth potion" Is a highly controlled substance that isn't just whipped about willy nilly. It takes a long time to prepare with expensive ingredients. You can't just whip a batch up. Snape even says in the previous movie that the use of it on a minor is illegal, when he's threatening to slip it into Harry's juice. So they can't use it for Harry's court case. And it makes Umbridge's use of it to find out where the club is, that much more cruel.
