@@emmmabooks it's INCREDIBLY dumb they left it out. Especially considering they made a point of leaving in the line about how Snape was one of the teachers helping to protect the stone. Silly movies. I almost hate them. 🤣
For me, I think of the whole 'all Sytherins are evil' thing as being more about Harry's perspective and the perspective of children/the reader. When you are young you often see things in black and white and binary ways like good/evil. As Harry grows up (and so does the reader with him), he realises that people are more complex. So thus it isn't just that Slytherins were always evil in the earlier books, but that we only have the perspective of young, biased children.
Then of course there's the fact that Slytherin is literally founded on "evil" ideology, and most of the students there during Harry's time remained "bad guys" until way later
marisdc That would also explain why Hufflepuffs are "the rest". Because it might be too complex to explain to a child what ethics and morals are. I'm not sure that's very J.K. Rowling, though. She seems to be one of those few adults who actually acknowledge that kids are a lot smarter and understand a lot more than we tend to think.
I love how when I read Harry Potter for the first time I was 6 years old and I thought 'Harry is already 11, he's so old!' and now that I'm 21 I think 'AHH HE'S JUST 11 SO CUTE'.
EMMA! YOUR MAKEUP AND HAIR AND OUTFIT! I CAN'T GET OVER IT! You are so so so beautiful inside and out and I miss you so much! Also! Loved that you filmed a review for Harry.
I love this review so much!!!! It made me relive all the memories and now I wanna do another reread myself 💕💕 Also I totally understand you on the Slytherin thing! It's so frustrating how they were clearly antagonized and now they're trying to go back on it to capitalize on the franchise. I'm just hoping that more new content will bring in some positive Slytherin rep (like with Scorpius!)
you shouldn't feel bad about not liking something just because everyone else likes it. I read the whole thing and rlly enjoyed it but it hasn't "made me the person i am today" like it wasn't my favorite series.
Ioana Styles you should push through, the first two or three books are aimed more towards kids, but books 4-7 are absolutely amazing, getting darker and more epic with each installment, there's a reason HP has one of the biggest (if not the biggest) fandoms in the world.
I don't know how many times I use to be able to relate to this, until this year. This always use to be until I finally read it and loved it, don't feel bad though it is understandable since not all books are for everyone.
Emma I just wanted to tell you how much your videos help me with my depression and anxiety. You are so kind and funny and when I am having a bad day I watch one of your videos for relief. Also you have introduced me to so many amazing, diverse, beautiful novels and I am so thankful for that. love you Emma! 💗💕
I've always thought that during the troll scene that if the trio was truthful and just simply told McGonagall that Hermione was crying and had no clue that there was an attack so they went to go find her, having no clue the troll would be there and had no choice but to fight it they wouldn't of gotten in trouble! Also, I completely agree about the point system; they just seem to make it up as they go.
My thought on the potential pothole with Charlie is that Dumbledore must have known what was happening because he always seems to know everything! Of course Dumbledore doesn't want Hagrid to get in trouble, so he let's down the wards for Charlie to get in. Who knows for sure, but it makes sense in my head!
It's pretty obvious from all the books that Dumbledor isn't an oblivious idiot. He knows what's happening, but usualy prefers not to interfere unless really nessesary. Heck, in OotP, he pretty much confirms he was watching Harry in the Shreeking Shack during the events of PoA.
I'm rereading HP this summer too; and I always remember how much I fell in love with Fred and George ("If I get one more owl telling my you've - you've blown up a toilet or - " "Blown up a toilet? We've never blown up a toilet." "Great idea though, thanks, Mum.").
Eva Doty and then they try to leave harry a toleit lid when he's in the infirmary, but Dumbledore tells him Madam Pomfrey thought it was unsanitary LOL
It's so funny because you mentioned that the duel scene wasn't in the movie, and I thought, "It's not!?!" I can so vividly see every scene in my head that I can't remember what was left out of the movies, because I feel like I've "seen" every scene lol
@@forestnraindeers3690 i sorta agree. Just cause I get distracted while watching movies , and sometimes multiple scenes will pass by, but when I'm reading. If i get distracted i stop reading so it's easier to stay "in the world's when reading
Emma's aesthetic is 👌 Also, I'm pretty sure it's a plot hole about Charlie's friends because in POA, after Sirius breaks in and there all in the Great Hall and everyone is talking about the different ways he could have gotten in, somebody mentions flying as a possible option and of course Hermione asks has anybody read Hogwarts a History in response, refuting this claim. (What a long sentence?!) 😂
I only started reading Harry Potter 2 years ago but I've already read it like 4 times. I'd say my favorite part about the first one is honestly the sense of home and comfort I get from it. I always get chills when starting it again.
About the Charlie thing - I have a feeling that Dumbledore knew what they were up to and was helping them behind the scenes basically by lowering the enchantments on the castle just enough for Charlie's friends to come in and take Norbert away. I mean you get hints throughout the entire series that Dumbledore always kind of knows what Harry and his friends are up to, but just stands back and offers help when it's needed, and lets them do their own thing.
Nandana J this is what I was thinking too. Especially when you find out later in the book that Dumbledoor is the one who has been returning the cloak to Harry and Harry mentions that he believes Dumbledoor knew what they were up to and let them be because he thought that Harry deserved to be the one to confront Voldemort.
Great review Emma! This made me wanna re-read this series, but I got other books too read. But I think I can manage! I have never smile so much in one of ur videos!(:
emmmabooks I've always hear great things about the audiobooks. The only way I can get them is my overdrive but there all checked out right now. I have the first one on hold. I'm number 17 on 2 copies!😀
I can't help but smile at Fred and George bewitching snowballs to hit Quirrell's turban. The last time I was in London I bought a chocolate frog and the card depicts that scene when I tilt it. It's great :D Also when Hagrid tells us how you'd be mad it you tried to rob Gringotts. Knowing full well what is going to happen later xD
I am currently reading the harry potter series for the FIRST time. I can honestly say I am excited for whats to come. I finished the first book, and so far my favorite scene is when Harry gets his wand. Reading that part truly felt magical. I loved the halloween chapter, and the finale was a def beautiful wrap up to the sorcerer's stone. Going on to Year Two right away !!!
Earlier this week I finished Harry Potter and the half-blood Prince (still crying over it) and I thought "I wish Emma would review the HP books, because her reviews are always fantastic" so I was really excited to see that my wish was granted :) xx
Wonderful review! I love how you learn new things about the series with each re-read, I totally feel the same! I used to listen to the audiobooks to help me fall asleep, they are so amazing!
I have wanted you to do this video for ages Emma and I'm so happy that I can watch this 💛 I honestly love your videos and you have really helped me get through my personal mental health struggles and I just want to thank you for that 💛
emmmabooks I am doing a lot better, I used to try and deal with everything on my own but hearing you talk about your own experiences made me realise that I need to get help. It's a long progress but I'm happy that I've finally let other people try and help me 💛
I love your review of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and can't wait to see the rest of the reviews for the series. I also love your outfit it's great.
The first book always makes me feel some sort of way. It reminds me of thr first time I read it and I get all warm and fuzzy inside. Also, I loved this review sm:)
Yess I'm so happy you're doing reviews!! Because I just started rereading them too and I've only got through the first one so far. Now every time I finish a book ill watch the movie then watch your review(because I'm sure ill go through them slower then you)
I feel you Emma. I've read through the whole series SO many times I can't even guess at a number. I have all the audio books (Stephen Fry versions, since they're the best versions and I will duel anyone who wants to tell me otherwise), and I still listen to them even now on a daily basis. They're all on my phone and I'll pop in my earbuds while I'm doing housework or even when I'm at work too and not directly dealing with a customer. These books make me happy and bring a joy to my life even in the darkest moments. I could be in the worst mood of my life, ready to Avada Kedavra the next person who talks to me, and I could listen to Chamber of Secrets, Chapter 3 "The Burrow" and listen to the part where they de-gnome the garden and my mood will completely change. I won't be able to die a happy man until I get to visit the Wizarding World in Orlando. It's my dream. And my ultimate goal is to one day work at and/or own my own Harry Potter shop and be surrounded by my favorite Fandom for a living. Even a HP RU-vidr. I'll shut up now. I feel like Hermione rambling about the importance of revising for exams. 🤟🏻🤣 #HogwartsIsMyHome #ProudSlytherin 🐍⚡
You've been talking a lot about rereading that I got excited about it and started rereading the series too. Thank you sooo much, it has not been long since I last read it but I missed it so much and I hadn't realized. Great review! (As always). I love the fact that you acknowledged the stigma (to call it someway) surrounding Slytherin, I always love discussing it. Thank you again for the review, this is the closest the ones that didn't live (or can't remember) when the books came out will get to experience the excitement (apart from the movies).
I'm so excited for this series of videos on your channel! I've been so annoyed about that line from Hagrid for years, like was it so hard for the script writers for the movie to put 'Harry' first in the sentence?! One of my favourite parts is when Harry gets on the train with the help of the twins and he overhears them and Ginny and Mrs Weasley talking about him.
Another thing I really appreciated about Harry was in the final scene, where he's facing Quirrell. He realizes that since the Mirror of Erised shows what you want, he can see where the stone is, because what he wants most is to find the stone before Voldemort. I think that scene really shows Harry's bravery and wisdom. This is an 11 year old kid, and what he sees, is not how to get out of that place (since that's what anyone else would have wanted most), but how to protect the stone from Voldemort.
I've read the books 12 times but I'm currently listening to the Steven fry audiobooks for the first time (I'm on order of the Phoenix) and they're honestly incredible. I would 100% recommend checking out the Steven fry audiobooks, I heard about them from my friend because she is obsessed with them and now I see why. Btw loved this review and can't wait to hear you talk about the rest of the books.
Loved this video! I have no idea how many times I've read this series but it's up in the teens as well. All the little moments of pride you had, I had them too... especially with Neville and his 10 points...OMG that actually made me a little teary eyed. Great video. Looking forward to the rest ⚡🤓
I've just reread them not so long ago, too. And as you said, there's always something that sticks out more each time you reread it and this time for me in Philosopher's Stone it was Hagrid. Just how amazing Hagrid is, and how he treats Harry and invites him over because he know this is so new for him and he's just the best. I don't think we appreciate Hagrid enough. ❤❤
I'm rereading the books too, I'm currently on Prisoner of Azkaban. I've been making videos talking about differences between the books and movies and I have a video for Sorcerer's Stone and a video for Chamber of Secrets on my channel
I'm a 33 year old male, and I just finished reading The Sorcerer's Stone for the first time. I've never seen any of the movies and plan on finishing the series before I watch them. Be jealous haha. Great review in all honesty, thank you
That monologue! When I first read Sorcerer's Stone, I didn't want to; I was pressured into it. Since my heart wasn't into it, I only remembered two things when I finished: 1. The Dursleys did not like the Potters. 2. Harry's speech about how House points wouldn't matter if Voldemort took over. So, yeah. It's good, and I'm glad someone else remembers it.
I loved growing up with Harry Potter. The first time I was introduced to Harry Potter's World was in 4th grade, 1998, and my teacher read The Sorcerer's Stone to us. From that moment on, I grew up with the trio! As the books came out I was the age they were. When they were 13 so was I. It was wonderful!
I wanted to say big thanks for this video. All these years whenever I missed HP I rewatched the movie. After watching this video I went and listened to the audio. And it was amazing..There were happy tears at the end. I owe this amazing feeling to you. Love you. I will continue :D
regarding all the weird house points problem in book 1; I read a post about it on tumblr years ago where a teacher shared her perspective on this saying if they’d given HRH more than +5 points it might teach them that running after dangerous creatures is a good thing and something they’d try again for the points while if they hadn’t gotten -150 points for being out/up at night they’d feel like it was worth losing some points and they’d wanna do it more times and teachers don’t wanna run around trying to save kids from those dangerous beasts or trying to get them to sleep at night all 7 years
I'm rereading the series too! I'm currently on Chamber of Secrets and I bought the Jonny Duddle editions (the new Bloomsbury editions) and they are BEAUTIFUL!
Omg perfect timing Emma, I'm actually reading it for the very first time for the booktubeathon! And ur opinion is obviously the most important to me ehehhe
I think Neville getting the points, the mirror or Erised and the Golden trio forming are some of my fave moments, also Harry's chat with Dumbledore, they are always my faves
as I saw the title i knew it........ love to all potterheads and Emma ofcourse.... and yes i feel home when I read them....... waiting for this one.... thanks emma
The "Yer a wizard, Harry" VS "Harry, yer a wizard" reminds me so much of the Star Wars "Luke, I am your father" thing because the line is actually "No, I am your father."
I'm currently reading the sorcerers stone and it's seriously is my favorite book it's just amazing I sadly don't have all the collection but I won't bother to get it because the sorcerers stone is the begging of everything magical ♡
I'm actually just reading Harry Potter for the first time! I am so thankful that your doing these reviews right now, I kinda feel like I'm reading then with you 😂
One of my favourite scenes is the first quidditch match. One might expect that a whole chapter about a school's sport match is going to slow the pace down, but Rowling managed to make it so exciting and make me wish to read more quidditch matches.
Honestly, Dumbledore probably knew about Norbert and just let them come in and think they were sneaky, because he loves Hagrid and doesn't want him to get in trouble
I've just finished rereading the first book. Like, literally just put it down and saw this video in my subscription. Everything you talk is so fresh in my mind haha. And I totally agree that the first book truly set up Slytherin to be so evil. Not quite fair when looking back at it right now, but I totally understand that the story kinda grows slowly with Harry. So what Harry perceives each year is what is being portrayed. Thanks so much for the review Emma!
I’m just now getting to read Harry Potter, because when I was a kid in elementary I hated it, and I didn’t read them. NOW I LOVE THEM AND IM READING BOOK 2 currently, so after each book, I’m watching the reviews!! Love you Emma!!! 🥳🥳😘
I'm really excited to hear your thoughts on Chamber of Secrets, which is my personal favourite of the series. Especially since the diary is the first Horcruxe and that it came so close to bringing Voldemort back.
I just love that the Harry Potter fandom is still so alive and active after 20 years of the release of the first book. Hogwarts is my home! And I think the Philosopher's Stone is third on my list. I will be re-reading it soon in the illustrated edition, I am so excited for it :)
I have just now started reading Harry Potter for the first time ever (I'm 18 lol) and I have to say I'm way more obsessed with it than I thought. I'm currently reading the chamber of secrets and although I have a ton of books on my tbr; after I read sorcerers stone I had to go out and buy the next book and started reading it immediately.
I read it first time ever on Christmas eve 2015, I went to bed and was only going to read a bit. I got it as a gift earlier that evening (we celebrate the 24th) and suddenly I'm crying about Neville getting 10 points and them winning the house cup.... I should really reread it someday, can't wait for the rest reviews and you do aways notice something new even rewatching the movies :)
emmmabooks I did!! I even got surprised by the ending and was happy I didn't get spoiled for that. I'm so glad I decided to pick them up at this time because you're reading them too!
My favorite scene from the book was when Harry went to Diagon Alley for the first time as since he new to the Wizarding World I can see him being amazed by Diagon Alley and what it have to offer. Another scene I enjoyed was the Halloween Chapter as Harry and Ron saved Hermione and because of this the golden trio was born. (I’m also rereading the Harry Potter series as I’m on chamber of secrets)
You said to talk about hp in the comments and my first thot for a comment was to ask if you can review the mortal instruments series lol (sry). Can you please do that though? I would love it because you love that series so much too and I wanted to see which parts you liked and which parts you didn't as much.
