J.K. Rowling packed the Harry Potter novels with fascinating characters. Her descriptions of characters included detailed physical traits and complex personalities. When the Harry Potter movies went to the big screen, the casting crew had their work cut out for them. Not only was their selection of actors and actresses not infinite, they had to consider both physical and character traits in their decisions.
When you’re reading a book, it’s easy to interpret the author’s descriptions of people in your own way. Although, there are usually some definite descriptions that cannot be missed in the imagination process. This video takes clear descriptions of the Harry Potter characters from the novels and compares them to the actress or actor who played them in the movies.
If you’re wondering how well the characters of the Harry Potter books were cast in the movies, check out this video. I disagree. Bonnie had very few facial expressions. You couldn' t read her emotions on her face, like you could with the other child actors. I'd say she was not able to bring Ginny Weasley to life, so to speak. Has nothing to do with the scriptwriting but with the acting. Bonnie/Ginny was a diasoppointment in every scene she was in.

It is probably worth noting that Lilly, James, Sirius, and Remus were all much younger than portrayed in the movies. Lilly and James had Harry at 20 years old, which would place Sirius and Remus in their early 30s when they are introduced, but the actors are clearly in their 40s.

It wasn't Bonnie's fault to be like that, i really think if they write Ginny like the book Bonnie can play book Ginny. Daniel was allergic to lenses. So they couldn't make Harry potter with Green eyes, at least Lily's adoult form has blue eyes, but the child Lily has brown eyes. They could have made child Lily with blue eyes so at least it would make sense, anyways it wasnt Dan's fault that he is allergic to lenses.

Daniel Radcliffe was allergic to contact lenses and Emma Watson couldn't speak with the fake teeth.... that's it ...And we don't have any complaints about Snape. (though you haven't mentioned him..But lots of other youtubers have done it ) Alan Rickman was way too perfect for that role.... And I even love Dan Rad

No hate or anything, but I personally don’t care for the kind of videos “what characters should have looked like” because, your not going to find someone who looks exactly the part, nobody will look exactly like how they should in the book- I personally would prefer amazing acting talent, with mediocre look resemblance, then mediocre acting talent, and amazing look resemblance. It’s just my opinion tho

Ginny’s character downgrade WAS NOT Bonnie’s fault! The directors took away her fiery personality. Not Bonnie. And all of the actors, even if their looks did not perfectly match the book description, portrayed their characters very well and I don’t think I could recast any of them better.

I can't imagine the nightmare it would have been to cast such an iconic set of books. Not knowing how the main (child) characters are going to grow over the years. It's an achievement that they did so well. Alas, I suspect many if not most characters had to be simplified from their book versions to keep the plot running forward. With Ginny's role reduced to background character, Ron as comic relief, Hermione as exposition dump, and Neville sidelined almost entirely. It's genuinely hard to decide which character was most short-changed. I'd have loved to have seen, more of the vulnerable, insecure Hermione. A more fleshed out Ron. The scene in St. Mungo's with Neville and his parents. More time given to establish the ghosts, and their story so it could be more rounded out (included). More of Voldemort's history and backstory. I understand that all these things would've brought the story to a jarring stop, or slow the pace. But, I'd love to see them included if it was remade in a Netflix style format. More time for Dobby, for all those elements to breathe. Hell, the films didn't even touch on the Marauders. Just a vague suggestion that Remus was aware of the map's properties. Again pacing impacts what's included. A longer cover of the maze in the trials could've been delivered.

I don't have a problem with Harry not having green eyes (yes, Radcliff couldn't wear the lenses). Therefore *blue* eyed movie Harry. What I *have* a problem with: Not giving Lilly the same eye color. Snape says you have your mother's eyes and afterwards we get the Lilly/Severus flashback. And Lilly has the darkest *brown* eyes I have ever seen on a ginger. ^^ Snape should have said: "You have your mother's eyes, but the eye color is completely different. Not even remotely anywhere close!" - There. I fixed the movie.

In the books, Dumbledore comes off as Grandfatherly as in the movies of Sorcerer's Stone and I think Chamber Of Secrets as opposed to the later movies where the new Dumbledore took over who yells at Harry Potter and doesn't seem to want to make friends with Harry and seems to want to kill him in Goblet of Fire!

@@tinarash7772 You are getting my point wrong. The book says Dumbledore asked Harry calmly, while in the movie Dumbledore attacks him. Which is very unlike his character. And the first comment I made about "Dumbledore asked CALMLY" is from the books. I too have read them all.

With as little screen time that was allowed. Jenny was played pretty well I thought. I get the changes that had to be made for the constraints though normally it does ruin a character. Hers wasn't though. I agree though that we the fans would have loved 4 or 5 more movies if they would have added EVERYTHING and really treated her character more correctly...

daniel was allergic to the colored lenses emma couldn’t speak with the fake teeth and lastly it was the directors fault, not bonnies. bonnie is an amazing actor that definitely could’ve played book ginny if she was told to. also, random fact: bonnies birthday is in 4 days!

And for harry potter I dont think they realized that they tried to do green contacts with harry(and because of this he had contacts for one scene; i believe the last scene of the first movie) but he was allergic to the contacts and on multiple occasions it brought him to practically crying and you can notice that in the scene where he was wearing the contacts

No offense, but this is a little harsh. The appearance is less important than the acting. The way I see it, I think they did an excellent job with the cast, even if they did not or could not match the characters from the books perfectly. I'm happy with the movies we got!❤😃

No both appearance and acting are super important. You can’t have great movies related to the books without both and I mean way better representation of the plot in the books tha n what they did in the actual movies. That’s why I hated the films so much. They changed and cut major parts of the plots in the books. Plus they couldn’t even get the main characters to look right, plus other ones as well.

Yes by Draco Malfoy. He cursed her “buck teeth” and made them grow longer and longer and Snape didn’t say anything saying she looked no different then normal. That’s why the description of her teeth changed after she was cursed in the goblet of fire Specifically at the Yule ball when she is described as “hair flat and shiny” and teeth noticeably normal shaped” and Hermione said that in the hospital wing madam Pomfrey told her to “tell her when to stop” and she just let her “carry on a bit” she also said her parents never let her fix her teeth with magic because they didn’t believe in fixing teeth with magic. TMI? Sorry😅 and btw no I’m not a ravenclaw lol

It’s not bonnie’s fault about how the movie portrayed ginny. did she write the script, no. the writes did her really dirty and yes she was nothing like the book ginny but it’s not her fault. if the writers actually wrote in book ginny’s personality and bonnie did a terrible job playing her than yes, she wasn’t right for the roll. but you can’t blame her for “shoelace” or how timid she was if that’s what was in the script.
