This idea of "insurability" is so strange. The Potter films could not have been made without a face, but they also required a body. It seems to me that without you and your kind, there can be no blockbuster. I hope they took good care of you. If the stars don't need to worry about money anymore, you should never have to worry about money again. This is a story about what we value, how much we value it, and why we value it.

@@Dionysos640 I think most people know the Oscars are about as meaningful with regards to filmmaking as the Emmys are or the golden globes are. Go watch some of the best character actors, they openly tell you the toughest acting are the people doing bit parts who come in for the day and have umpteen script changes and character changes and are still expected to perform for very little money. In a film they literally shoot three second bits and splice them together. As the joke goes, even WRITERS get no respect in Hollywood, only the good looking people in fancy clothes.

The problem is that it would be a very blurry category. Like, would it be an award for "Best Stunt" or "Best Stunt Double"? Because if it is the former you'd have to include actors who perform their own stunts. This category may also fall into the trap of rewarding people solely for putting themselves/being put in dangerous situations. It's kind of the same reason why Guinness World Records stopped giving out world records for inherently dangerous things like obesity or fasting, because they don't want to create a competitive environment where the competition is how much mortal risk you can put yourself in.

@user-pn5mn6mv3c Firstly he was well off to begin with working in movies at a young age, secondly he’s outside of the US and their garbage Healthcare system, and thirdly it still takes a lot of guile both mentally and physically to come back from such a shock. It seems to me like you’re just jealous of the opportunities he’s been given, the same opportunities he wouldn’t have got if he let his tragedy define him. “These scars that we have, we aren’t meant to go back and fix them; and there’s nothing broken within you that needs fixing. @@currymitch5119 There's some truth in what "user-pn5mn6mv3c" has said. David is very likeable, and I wish him the very best. That said, he is lucky in his misfortune because, by his own admission, he's helped and loved by so many people. Would you praise those with a 'victim mentality' or even feel sorry for them? I bet you wouldn't. On the contrary, you'd prolly shit on them. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Some people receive no love (or even positive attention) from the moment they are born. David is an absolute legend. From working in a risky job that gives the rest of us entertainments as we watch film after film to experiencing an horrific accident! I admire his resilience and positive attitude he has on life and him now helping others through their own tough journeys navigating their disabilities. I wish David nothing but the absolute best in life because he is a kind and gentle soul. Thank you for sharing David ❤

I feel pangs of guilt when I leave them to get to my next stop. Otherwise id stay and chat for a while. This guy seems like a really good laugh to chat to as well

Thank you David , you set an example for us all. I live my life with an spinal cord injury, not as serious as yours, mine prevents me from sitting down. Indeed this disability changed my life, I cannot work anymore, I cannot travel, I have no social life and very little family life. But listening to you tonight I realized I am also a hopeful woman, because if you can simile and go on living , so can I. I am speechless David. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Massive damage to my L5 made my right leg stop working. Only one leg was fucked, thankfully. It's been 2.5 years since surgery and have regained ~60% of my movement. I'll never run again, and my balance is destroyed, but there's always the hope it will improve more.

David thank you so much for sharing about the "extreme ups and extreme downs." To see you there on LADbible, looking great, smiling, talking about your outreach efforts, and then also talking about how you were in bed with overwhelming pain last week is somehow very helpful to me as a person with a different physical disability that also comes with extreme ups and extreme downs.

To David: Thank you for telling your story, and also thank you for your hard work and dedication to the Harry Potter series. Apparently you've been a great part of my childhood and I've never even known. You're an amazing individual with an incredibly strong character. Please keep being awesome. Also yeah, this is probably the right time to come out with stories like these. Those who watched the series originally all those years ago now have the presence of mind to realize that the movie industry isn't all sunshine and rainbows.

As someone that grew up reading the books, then watching the movies, I wish I could thank him for his contributions in making it all so real. He couldn’t possibly tarnish any of that for us. My 13 year old son just watched this with me, and he says so as well. His story only makes it all so much closer to home. We’re all so proud of you, David. Such a badass. Thank you for sharing! 🥰
