Two weeks ago my girlfriend purchased the Harry's Razor and four replacement cartridges. I've used it fourteen straight days with the original cartridge and it still feels brand new on my face. It doesn't nick or cut. I love this razor.
Buy a double edge safety razor set. Which comes with stand, safety razor unit, saop, bowl or cup, soap brush,5 double blades. You can buy a separate double edge blades of 100 ct for less than $15.00. Also its the best shave of your life
Double edge safety razors have made a huge comeback in recent years, especially since the Gillette commercial. They give a way smoother shave, blades cost way less and don't tug like cartridge ones do, and most of the DE razors themselves are built to last for generations.
Before I started growing out my beard I went from Gillett to Harry's and never looked back. It's a great razor, good lifespan, and amazing shave. Only thing I have negative to say, if you pack it carelessly in a travel bag (I had one for travel when i was in the reserves) the head pops off pretty easy. However that doesnt change how good it is when you shave. I'd absolutely recommend them to anyone who is looking for a new disposable razor.
I switched from Gillette as well a few years ago. Grew a beard and am now beardless lol... Pulled my Harry's razor back out and it works like new. And I stocked on cartridges before I grew my beard..lol🤷🏾♂️
So I tried Harry’s for the first time today. I have a rough beard and it gave me a decently close shave, although I think it will take some time getting used to. I normally shave with a single blade or twin blade and 5 blades usually used to cut me here and there. You have to be more careful with your technique with Harry’s but I can tell it’s a quality blade. Very sharp.
This was a very thorough nice solid review. Thanks for this video. I just bought mine at Costco $24.99 (1) Razor Handle, (1) Travel blade cover, (13) 5-blade cartridge refills. Not a bad deal.
I was the same way at first about the blade angle, but after a couple of shaves the Harry's stuff really rocks. I really like the straight blade for the trimmer.
I am at 3 weeks of use on mine and it is just now getting dull. I have been very impressed with mine! I do recommend this razor (video explaining more on my wall). I did not have a chrome grip like some others have had, mine is an orange rubber like yours so no slipping. I think the handle is comfy too! I had the same amount of hair storage in the blades as I did any other razor. These blades were awesome IMO and I shaved multiple body parts nearly every day. I can see how the angle bothered you but with legs....no problemo. Oh and I will totally try your trick as I too before Harry's used disposables for a LONG time.
I used Harry’s this morning on my head for the first time....I am really really impressed with this razor compared to what I was previously using fusion pro glide...Harry’s gave me a more improved comfortable shave and with no nicks so I won’t be going back to Gillette....btw I had no issue with the angle of the blade to the handle mentioned in the video....Harry’s is a beautiful razor.
I came from a Wilkerson Safety razor, being taught how to shave by Dad. Then in the 90s, tried the Gillette Mach series. Then in November last year saw the Harry's. The Mach are too expensive to replace. The quality isn't the same for shaving. Harry's is Heaven Sent! Cheap, shaves you good, lasts longer than 3 shaves. No razor burns....great product!
I’ve used all kinds of razors. But, I tried Harry razor about a hour ago. And I must say. It was the best shaving experience I’ve ever had. And I didn’t have to go against the grain; like prior razors 1:35 . I love the flexibility of the blade. His razor got my respect. 😊❤
I shave my underarms and nape of the neck. Surprisingly the disposable Harry's razors had lasted me much longer than the refillable ones. It was about 8-9 months for one box of disposables and so far only 3 months for what has been 2-3 refillable razors. I shave once per week, and even though the razors themselves have stayed sharp for long, the refillable razor heads themselves have broken at the joint.
Ben Jones Thank you. I’m a female with peach fuzz for arm hair and I was just about to ask if that honing technique works for hairless arms. I’ll use jeans. ☺️
Absolutely! Every shave with my Harry's razor,, I start stropping with a moderate weight pair of jeans and it stretches the life of the blade to about 3-weeks. Amazing!
Denim works about as well as your arm (or better) for stropping. I've used razors for months by stropping. I'm just starting to use a Harry's razor and I'm getting the sense that it doesn't stay sharp for as long as other brands. I agree with your impression of the weird angle of the razor with respect to the handle.
I just got a Harry's razor from Walmart. I was a subscriber to dollar shave club and I liked them well but my handle broke (it rusted in me with the blade in it my fault completely ). I decided to give Harry's a try. Price point to price point is about the same as Dollar Shave Club. The handle with two blades was $10 just like at Target for you and I ended up getting a four pack of blades which was $9 for 4 which is about the same as Dollar Shave Club. What I like about the cartridge refills is the packaging is awesome. I like how it's put in reusable Packaging. I can use the box to gift one of my many beaded items that I make. I also like the case the cartridges come in way better than Dollar Shave Club. Also what I liked about the starter kit will just call it that it came with a blade cover so if you happen to keep your razor in the shower like I do your blade isn't going to rust nearly as quickly. My problem that I didn't like about it was how to change a blade I've had problems figuring it out but once I did is like oh okay I got this. The other thing that I was skeptical on was how well it would shave my legs. It's been months since I shaved my legs last time I did any hair removal on my legs I used Nair. Not a fan of the smell of Nair or the wait time or dealing with chemicals so I'm went back to shaving. I was highly impressed on how well it handles and coarse hair on my legs and I did use the trimmer blade to make sure that I got all the hair down to the nitty-gritty. The other thing that I didn't care for was how easy it was to Nick myself with the blade. Grand it I nicked myself with any blade whether it's a Disposable Male razor that I got from the Dollar Tree, a disposable female razor that I got from the Dollar Tree, I fancy-schmancy woman's razor from Walmart, or a Harrys Razor. I always Nick myself behind the ankle where your Achilles tendon is Common Pleas for me to Nick. I really like the price point of Harrys Razor and just because I'm a woman doesn't mean I can't use a man's razor. It's funny because women's razors and cartridges I guess that's what they call him are way more expensive than men's and really there is no difference except in this case all my there's a trimmer blade. I like the way to the handle it's very similar to the elite handle I had from Dollar Shave Club. Again will state how I liked the packaging and how reusable the box was. I can use the starter kit box for gift if I wanted to and as for the cartridge box I do have a handmade beaded keychain that I made as a gift in it. I would love to try the Harry's shave lotion if it's available because I absolutely love the shave lotion from Dollar Shave Club it smells amazing and it worked really really well I kind of want to see how Harry's works out. So if any you ladies out there reads this I strongly suggest giving Harry's a try there is no shame and using a male razor.
First week with Harry's Razor, Chrome pack from Costco. Have been using a Gillette Twin for years, but it's not available anymore. Harry's is sharp and smooth. Had to adjust to the angle, but I can manage. Stays sharp after a week of head and face shaving. I use moisturizing shampoo for my head and face. No nicks so far. The Costco pack has 13 razor heads and a Chrome handle. The handle could be a bit larger, but I'll adjust to that too. So far, so good!
I like that they put time into the packaging, although, there is quite a lot of it. It is nice though. I use the boxes for collar stays, Swiss Army knife, etc. to throw in my luggage. I didn’t care for the angle at all, but then I realized the blade had to “click backward” into place; I was trying to use while locked in the “new-in-box” position. Now, I really like it. Accompanying products are nice too.
@theengineer70 Mate you should look into double edge razor shaving aka a safety razor Far farrrr better shave and you have the choice of roughly a hundred different blades you can get for them You can even buy blade sample packs that come with a selection of all the most popular blades, but cartridge razors are rubbish
I like your no nonsense review style and how you were fair in adjusting your impression over time with usage. A close friend introduced me to Harry’s about a year ago, since then I’ve paid that forward by gifting a set to my son and another friend. I find Harry’s to be a reasonably priced, quality product. I really like Harry’s Shave Gel, even more so now that I’ve learned to use very little and still get a good lather stretching the can out longer. I highly recommend the Post-Shave Balm with Aloe, although a little pricy, I’ve not found better. Keep up the good work on your reviews!
I like Harry's razors and blades very much. I like the simplicity of the hinge vs the Gilette blade that seems to have alot going on. .It's well balanced and feels comfortable in the hand. For me, the quality of the shave was slightly better than Gillettes five bladed razor. The sharpness of the blades also seem to last a long time. The one knock I have is that the plastic hinge, whose perfomance I really like, breaks after about 5 days. This is too bad as it renders the razor just about useless. Not sure what I will try next.
I just started using Harry's. And it's the closest shave I've ever had. The technique I use to keep blades sharp: Dip blades in olive oil and rest it in it's case. Still sharp as ever😎❤😎
So the arm trick is essentially the same as stropping the blade of a straight razor. All that you are doing is just bending back the thinnest part of the edge so that it remains nice and straight.Another thing you can do is make sure to dry the razor off with a towel after each use, because corrosion can also dull the blade quicker. Do both these things and you can easily get several months out of a good quality disposable cartridge.
I just tried that honing technique on my old dull Schick aqua 5 and it worked like new. I got an extremely close shave and was surprised. I guess it is similar to preparing a straight razor on a leather strap.
The sharpening technique also works if you use a pair of jeans. I've been using same razor for almost 7 months. The only drawback is the comfort strip is almost shot.
Personally I like Harry's blades a lot. What I like most is the feel when shaving with Harry's, for me the blades have the right amount of drag to feel like they're cutting hair, and giving a close shave. Blades that glide effortlessly over my face with no pull just aren't satisfying to shave with. They may give a close shave, but they don't feel like they are. You have to be careful with the trimmer blade though, using it to get right under my nose, I've cut myself a few times. Definitely need a light touch using it
@@roningram5877 I just saw them at Wally World yesterday. A whole bunch of them, even had an endcap display. 10 bucks for a box with the handle and 2 blades.
I agree with you on the angle and almost 90º rotation of the head. But, as you said, it does grow on you. Another thing, for those of us without a mustache, it's harder to get under the nose than it is with a double blade. One way to help get around this is to pull the nose up to get up just inside the nostrils. Another way to make the blades last is to wash the hair out (which cleans the hair out, similar to what the technique you show does), dry it off with a towel and then I put mine in front of the bathroom fan to get the last of the moisture off of it. This helps keep the blades clean and sharp longer.
Finally a man that knows how to review a quality razor. I do no own a Harrys razor but i am a subscriber to dollar shave club. I get 5 blades every 3 months and there good. I prolong the last catridge before the new one comes in with a scrap piece of denim. My dad taught me that trick a long time ago. Would you ever considering doing a review on straight razors?
I've watched several of your reviews today and you do an excellent job!!! This one was great especially because I've been looking at the one blade. Thanks a lot for the videos!
If you guys want to make your Harry's blades last longer you got to clean it with a spray bottle then use a little piece of paper dehydrate the blade before the liquid water damages it
My Son is 17 and has always just used an electric razor on his face. I just ordered the Harrys razor because he needs more of a close shave. I just found your video and it was very informative, thank you. Honestly I know this sounds crazy but I have no idea on how to show him to shave the right way with a blade razor. I'm trying to look for Harry shaving videos on "how to" I guess, with no luck. Single mom here. Lol
You can still order them online now and now they have a different subscriptions ranging from every month to every 3 months depending how often you shave . For people like myself we don't have this in our stories so online is a great option for only $15 very reasonable
Hello James. I actually just finished shaving using Harry's disposable. And will gladly say, " it met and exceeded my expectations." Didn't clog up, easy to rinse and very good close shave without razor burn or any irritation. Mind you I used cremo shaving cream. And still didn't clog. And easily rinsed as clean as when I took it from package Gillette has lost a customer. Thank you for your honing tip. Will definitely be doing it. Will post back, let you, others know how long Harry's disposable razor lasted. As always another great review!😊
I don't know about the arm thing but a great way to keep your blade sharp is to never store it in the shower. After it's used rinse it thoroughly then dry it immediately dry it immediately! Just like they tell you not to put your knives in the dishwasher keep your razor plates in a dry place. My Schick Hydro blades last a lot longer after doing that
As usual, excellent review. Want to add, you can also hone the blade on the leg of any pair of jeans bthat you're wearing. Denim is one ith best cloths to use when one wants to hone a razor blade
First time watching your channel. I liked your review, it’s solid and insightful. I’m subscribing and notifications on! How are the razors fairing after 6 months?
I appreciate the subscribe! It held up well while I used it. In July I switched to the Gillette Fusion 5 Proshield Power, as you can see in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9jl3UhRjsfg.html
Same here for me (in the UK), I tried the Harry (I only do my beard) and the price point was good but adding the points you made all together and my experience I have returned to Gillette Fusion 5, expensive but seems to give for me at least the shave that is best. Good review. PS I agree with you on the (your Review updates 7) ...my son loves the Whirly Ball and a year on still going strong! Also I got the Thin optics after your review and yep, still used daily... great. Deviating slightly... Have you reviewed the NEBO Big Larry? As a pro muscian and out a lot I have gone through over the decades a lot of lights/lanterns. A year on and this one seems to have survived my clumsy tests (I ran over it by accident in the car and it survived without a mark!) and battery life vs the high lumens seems to have gone okay . I'm thinking I may go for the Pro version and leave the standard in the house. be interested if you do a review. Great reviews and bought and not bought on your well constructed and balanced reviews.
I've been using Hydro 5 by Wilkinson sword for a few year's now and I get a great shave, First pass with the grain, Second with it and then rinse and pat dry the moisturise.
I have mixed feelings about Harrys blades. I like the handle itself, but the blades clog way to easily and are almost impossible to unclog. Harrys is also not a blade that you want to put a lot of pressure on, especially if you have sensitive skin. In a pinch Harrys is okay, but the Gillette Fusion has been superior in how long each blade has lasted me, as well as comfort, and maintainability.
I tried Harry's because I was so angry at Gillette about the man-hating advertisement. Now I like the Harry's shave a LOT. Smooth close shave. BUT ..... 1. The cartridge hinges though wear out quickly, faster than the blade itself. Once the hinges wear out the blade just flops around. So on balance it lasts much less time than Gillette cartridges, roughly canceling out the cost advantage of Harry's. 2. I think the standard Truman handle is fantastic. I did try the optional chrome Winton model and got severe razor cuts 3 times! The Winton is much more narrow and also NOT rubberized and so it would just spin around once in a while, giving me huge razor cuts around half an inch long or more. This never happened to me even once with 30+ years of using Gillette. So stick with the Truman folks. 3. Also notice that there is no button to release the cartridge from the handle. It just slides off. one time it slide off during a shave and gave me a severe razor cut. Gillette cartridges never slide off because you have to push a button release for the cartridge to come off. On balance it seems like Gillette is a more mature and bug free design. But then there is the problem that they seem to hate their male customer base. Not sure what to do. We shall see.
I think one point of note, is Harry's explicitly states their design isn't meant for head shaving, and in that regard, I don't think the close to flat face is such an issue, (It does tend to catch a lot of foam in the head though...)
One minor correction, Harry’s was not initially a subscription service. That was a later addition to their product line. They kinda prefer you do it that way now, but you’ve always been able to buy their products without a subscription.
If you soak your blades in olive oil between shaves the blades will last even longer. I've found that the blades are still good when the plastic housing falls apart after 6 months or so.
I actually use Harry's for grooming "the goods," and never had a problem. It is difficult but I find Harry's to be the best over Gillette and Manscaped. Only cut myself once
I’ve recently gotten into wet shaving and just picked up a Harry’s today just for shaving my head. Once home I noticed on the bottom of the box it says “our blades are designed for shaving your face and not for head shaving” Seemed to work for you tho, so I’ma give it a try.
I understand that Harry’s razor is not for head shaving. Regarding the honing, I have used my towel but maybe I will try the arm now and see how that works.
You could also just make sure you rinse and dry the blade to keep it sharper longer because the blades develope oxidation microscopic rust that also dulls the blade besides regular use.
Harrys is the best. Super convenient reliable service. After shaving, i shake the water off the razor and store it in a cup of olive oil. This method has always worked for me in retaining the razors sharpness a little longer. Hope this helps.
Great review but I dumped all these disposble razors years ago (except when in a real hurry to shave and go that's when the multiblade design etc really comes into it's own for a speedy nik free shave ) I went back to good old fashioned single blade replace able razors . I buy the razors from E Bay ,Amazon etc by the hundred and each blade costs me pennies and lasts about a week (7 shaves) but in truth you can put a fresh blade in every one or two shaves and still save a ton of money over 99 % of fancy cartridge multiblade disposables. The ONLY downside is with a traditional single blade razor you have to take your time and shave properly and you have to practice your technique to achieve as good a shave as anything out there , that said it makes it more of a ritual and with plenty of great shave soaps to choose from can be very pleasurable grooming time as opposed to a chore that so many guys think shaving is .
I used Harry's shavers. I found it to be a good shaver... Except for the area that you don't shave. I have a problem with it's angle head design where the chin meets the neck. The Harry's blade doesn't change angles well in that intersection. For you, that's the one area you don't shave.
Five blades are hard to wash out to the point I went electric “Series 7” from Braun. I’m thinking about going back to a three blade manual or using a safety razor because of expense.
I just bought my first Harry's razor today and gotta say the first shave was amazing I used the razor and the shaving cream and then the after shave balm and it feels amazing now
Awesome review, glad it worked for you. I had the opposite experience. Harry's Blades has literally destroyed my face. I am 26, been shaving for years, but this blade hurts my face. I wish they had a blade for sensitive skin.
Just picked up your razor at Wal-Mart best shave ever I'll never go back to the other over priced ones again. My only concern is the blade seems a little weak in the hinge as in it moves to easily.
In regard to honing the blade, yes it works but may I suggest instead use a clean towel instead of the arm which may have dirt and oils that will corrode the blade.
I have been using Harry's razors for 5 years. They give a great ,close shave. The blades last me a very good amount of time., at least a month shaving every third day. I have a thick beard on a basically a baby face. I skip a day shaving to prevent ingrown whiskers. The best advice I can give about them is doubt let whiskers build up in them. Keep them clean while shaving and never put one away uncleaned. You can strop it on a sheet of paper or the leg of your jeans and it will work better than your arm.
I actually bought this just for the hell of it and I actually was prepared to not like this Harry's razor just because of the angle of the blade being parallel to the handle, and on the first shave, that ended up not being a problem. I am a head shaver as well as my face, although my hair is not super thick. All in all I feel like it's a good product that costs less than leading cartridge razor
@@GustavoSantos-gz7uj because we don't need Gillette telling us what ass holes men are. Most of us know how to raise our children and to treat each other with respect, thank you.
Harrys are too expensive Guys. The Aldi bargain 5 blade razor is £3.49 complete with a blade and a refill pack of 4 blades is just £3.99 and last ages. Try them and you won't be disappointed.
The head of this razor is the best feature it perfectly follows the contours of your face this is the sharpest best razor I've ever used I've been searching for a good razor for a while I've went through all the top named brands just seems like the sharpness and quality have went way down in modern razors but not harrys razors hands down best shaving razor I've ever owned.
I had an issue with hacking my face when I used anything but the sharpest of blades, then I saw an offer from Harrys blades and my life is now totally nick free (even after Harrys blades start to get blunt) and has been for years as I now wont use anything but Harrys!
Best review out there on this product. This company have just come to the UK recently. Decided not to go for it because of the angle of the blade issue.
Thanks for the video. I noticed when you demoed your honing technique you did it in the opposite direction as the video example. You went down arm. He went up arm. Skin has a grain based on the direction of hairgrowth. It might make a slight difference. Will try it myself and join the honing tribe. Anyway thanks the great video.
I have been using Harry's razors for six months. This morning I hit my chin with the leading edge of my razor and split my chin open . The leading metal edge is very sharp and should be covered for safety.
ive seen you use this your head and looks fine. i just did my order and the survey said these are not made for your head. its like now you ask. the flex of it looks fine for me. i was down to my last gillette blade and been seeing the ads for years and now want to try these. i ordered the 5 blade set plus 8 extras. i hope they work.
Harry’s shave gel and after shave is the most freshest smelling product I’ve ever smelled. Their soaps and body wash are out of this world also and they don’t test any of their products on animals.
I have watched several of your reviews! I like your no-nonsense does it really do it approach! I have tried Harry’s by subscription. I like their shave foam a lot, but it is expensive compared to the product I normally use and also I found it slowed my sink drain! On the razor, using the single blade between my nose and upper lip just does not work well for me, that is not just a Harry’s issue but for all 5 + 1 razors. I much prefer narrow 3 blade razors like Gillette Sensor 3. Even the disposable of that model does a great job for me!
Hey man, I've been using a similar technique for maintaing the blade, but I use a paper towel or tissue to run the razor head in the opposite direction so that excess hair out of the blades...leading to the razor lasting a long long time.
I just picked one of these up today. I bought the razor to strictly use on my head, but once I got it home I noticed a disclaimer on the box that discouraged use on the head, but I'm sure if I looked close enough, any razor of that style will probably say the same, so I did it anyway and it gave a closer shave than gillette razor. I did have a little razor burn, but I'm sure once I use it a few times my scalp will toughen up. Van der hagen safety razor is what I use on my face to clean up my beard.
I just bought a Harry's razor and I don't like the angle of the head. I think it has flexibility but I hate the angle of the head. I'm going to give try it for a while and see if I like it better. Other than that I like the razor.
I'm still a Gillette user. I tried the less expensive brands and found them lacking. I buy in bulk on Amazon and the G refills last me 2 months, so it's not that expensive in the long run. I WILL try the honing though.
I used to love Harry’s but in 2020 the quality started to go down really bad to where I could barely get 2 or three good shaves out of it. So I switched to a safety razor and although each blade or last 2 or 3 shaves they cost literally pennies, and since switching to a safety razor it’s so gentle to the skin I have not had any issue with ingrown hairs.
