As much as I love Larry and their love for each other, that's not all they write about, and the other themes are just as important and interesting. In this video, I analyse Harry's beautiful, deep and meaningful lyrics about gender identity.

Because some people miss the point: they are about Harry (or themes he wants to explore, whether they are autobiographical or not). As much as I love Larry and their love for each other, that's not all they write about, and the other themes are just as important and interesting. And gender is a topic that is especially important and interesting to me personally. Thus, I want to discuss the beautiful lyrics Harry has written about it. Also, there can be Larry references or (intentional) lyrical parallels in songs even if the overall theme is not related to Larry. Like I said in the video, there is a Larry "Easter egg" in She, even though it's not (in my opinion) relevant to the thematic concept of the song. I also think Harry might refer to himself as "sunshine" in Fine Line because that's something Louis calls him. I think Larry can be there in the background even in the songs that are not about Larry. Sidenote: I mentioned in the video that these things have been discussed on Tumblr (and probably elsewhere), because I find it annoying when people make it seem like something they say is completely original and never thought of by others in the fandom before, when it's something that actually has been discussed before (which is pretty much everything, really). However, I'm not on Tumblr, I just lurk around there occasionally, and I haven't read posts about this topic recently, so I don't remember which blogs have discussed it, and unfortunately Google isn't the most helpful when it comes to searching for old Tumblr posts. I haven't copied anybody's posts, I just wanted to mention that this topic has been discussed before.

@@vampirate2347 I don't know how he identifies. I think femininity is an important part of him whether or not he identifies as something other than a man. I don't know how much of these lyrics is autobiographical.

@@ariadnaestrauss3895 I appreciate your comments and I’m glad you like my videos. I wouldn’t want to sound harsh, but I’m not sure how to express this more nicely. I think that our biggest disagreement is that you think that the details of people’s private lives are a puzzle that needs to be solved, and I don’t. In fact, to me that way of thinking kind of feels like stalking, and it’s actually quite invasive. I think Louis & Harry certainly do want to communicate their love for each other through their songs, and I think they want to communicate to us in many ways that they are queer, in love and closeted. They put in Easter eggs, wear coded clothing and so on, to reassure us that they are still together, and that the love we have witnessed is real. However, I don’t think that they try to tell us every single private detail of their relationship, and I don’t really see the point in trying to guess those, and I definitely don’t think it’s ok to present those interpretations as facts. I think there is a line between supporting them as a closeted queer couple (and as closeted queer individuals, and as artists and so on) and digging into every detail of their private life. Also, I think it’s important to keep facts and interpretations separate. Just because you think you solved what something means doesn’t mean that your answer is correct. We need to acknowledge that. In this fandom, misinformation spreads very quickly and guesses and interpretations become “facts”. Spreading misinformation isn’t helping anyone, the least Louis & Harry, and we really should try to avoid that. We can make our own interpretations, we can compare their lyrics to other things we know about them and all that, but we still don’t know any of the details for certain, unless there are some reliable proofs. So, let’s not try to make our interpretation into facts. For example, I don’t think that they ever broke up. Based on the timelines of factual events, them being in a relationship the whole time seems to be the most likely scenario. I think that they have gone through many struggles in their relationship - considering their situation, it’s quite obvious - and they have expressed feelings of abandonment, separation, loneliness, longing and reconnection in their lyrics, but I wouldn’t use those as evidence of actual real-life events. I'm sure those feelings have been real, anyway. I just don’t want to use songs as “proof” of real-life events because they are not. Their songs are also in some parts written to fit the public narrative - that Louis has a long-term girlfriend with a two-year break and Harry has had multiple short relationships, so some lines in the songs are there just to fit that narrative. But obviously I don’t know whether they ever broke up, and I’m fine with that. After all, it’s their life. I don’t need to know. All I need to know is that they are queer, closeted and, as it seems, still together. Even if they weren’t together anymore, them being queer and closeted (and amazing artists, of course) is enough for me to continue supporting them. I think you missed quite a lot of my points. I don’t know why you explained that “around 1:32” thing, even though I referred to it both in the video and in this pinned comment. I thought I made it clear that I know it. I have listened to the reversed track and I don’t deny its existence. I said it’s a Larry Easter egg. I think that reversed line is a hidden message and a love declaration to Louis. However, I stand behind what I said in the video: “I don’t think it’s relevant to the GENERAL THEME of this song.” I don’t think the song is for or about Louis, although I think that that one reversed line is. And in the pinned comment you replied to, I said: “I think Larry can be there in the background even in the songs that are not about Larry”. So, I’m not really sure what you are trying to say. Also, I don’t know why you are explaining things like coded clothing. You commented on my recent post about Harry’s coded clothing, so I assume you know that I am aware of the things you mentioned. If the interview you are referring to is the one with Zach Sang, you misquoted Harry. He didn’t say “the same listener” but he said the other things you quoted (well, he said "most songs", not "all songs"). So, he said that individual songs are usually written for one listener, not that all songs are written for the same listener. If you meant some other interview, please tell me which one. But if you meant that one, then please, please, please stop misquoting him, because that kind of takes away all the credibility. (The same with taking things out of context, like I said in another comment earlier.) Also, that interview was made right before HS1 was released. All the songs that I talked about in this video are from Fine Line. I think Harry has evolved quite a lot as a songwriter between the albums, so what he said then might not apply to the newer songs. I think Fine Line has more introspective songs than the first album does. I do think Harry “writes too many songs about” Louis. I never denied that. But that’s not all he writes about. And I think your way of drawing conclusions about some private details of their relationship based on their lyrics or some cryptic coding is kind of creepy. You are probably justifying it by saying that they are giving hints, but what if you read the hints incorrectly? You seem to take some of those hints as a free pass to invade their privacy, and that’s where we disagree. I might be wrong, but based on my observations, especially straight cisgender fans tend to 1) misinterpret certain things, and 2) think that they are entitled to information that really isn’t any of their business. There’s a fine line between seeing and acknowledging their signalling and reading too much into things. I welcome cishet fans into this fandom with open arms, and I have no problem with them expressing their views (as long as they are sensitive to the LGBTQ+ fans), but when it comes to issues that many LGBTQ+ fans have personal experience on, please listen to us and acknowledge that we have a deeper understanding on certain issues. These include queer culture, things that are specific to queer relationships, homophobia and transphobia and the complexity of those issues that goes way beyond dealing with homo-/transphobic individuals, and heteronormativity and how it affects our everyday life in ways that are difficult for many cishet people to even comprehend. Any kind of song interpretations are ok as long as you acknowledge that your interpretation may not be correct, and it may not reflect the writer’s personal life, at least in the way you think it does. You think that you know how they think and feel, but you don’t. You can make observations and interpretations, just like any of us, but you can’t get inside of their heads. We need to understand the limits of our knowledge. I understand that I don’t know how they think or feel. I can make observations, interpretations and educated guesses, but that’s it. I have some insight and knowledge on certain things, which is why I think I can understand the meaning of certain things quite well. When it comes to the bigger picture, their love, their closeting, and the more universal questions of homophobia, transphobia, problems within the entertainment industry, and so on, I’m pretty confident I get it right. But when it comes to details about their relationship, I’m well aware that my interpretations and perceptions might be wrong. And I’m ok with it. Larry is fascinating and so is this fandom. Many aspects of this whole phenomenon are fascinating. But do you really need to know details of their relationship in order to support them? If you are here to support queer artists in a tricky situation and to appreciate their art, it should be enough to know that they are queer, closeted and together, and write beautiful, meaningful songs about love and the queer experience. But if you are here to play some kind of deduction game, I don’t know if anything I say really matters. I don’t quite understand what kind of needs some of you are trying to satisfy through these two people. After all, they are not a puzzle, they are actual human beings.

Good interpretation of all three songs. I will add about Fine Line: “my hands at risk I fold”. This is a poker expression. When you “fold”, you lay your cards face up on the table for all to see. It is a risky move because the other player/players could have been bluffing and by folding, you lose when you may have had a winning hand. So by Harry laying his cards on the table (sharing who he really is), he is risking rejection. This song is a masterpiece. Actually the entire album is a masterpiece.

I didn't understand the meaning of "she" at all before this video, and this makes so much sense, I was just listen to she and almost had a breakdown, now knowing the real meaning. That's why I came back to this video to tell you, your interpretation helped me understand this song and harry in a whole different way and I'm grateful for you doing this (even tho now I want to cry). Edit: I also think the "man drops his kids off at school" means after he is done with his responsibilities for the day, he gets to thinking of who he really is, like after he does his job, sings, interviews and stuff, he gets to thinking of "you" as in his feminine side. Here dropping off his kids off at school is a metaphor for dropping off his responsibilities. Edit 2: I thought about this for a while and I think the "you" is more likely to be referring to lou because he's been refering to his feminine side as "her" or "she" and not "you" plus it fits really well, like, he gets to thinking of lou when he's dropped off his responsibilities. All of this makes so much sense now that I'm dying

Did you watch the video before commenting? I think the song is about Harry. Only Harry. I think the video parallels are intentional and refer to Larry, of course. Those are two separate things. I've used those video parallels in a previous video. That is not at all the point of this video, though. I'm not talking about the Lights Up video, I'm talking about the song lyrics and Harry's self-reflection on gender identity. Edit. I just realised you didn't even say what it has a strong tie with, but I assume you meant Walls music video and We Made It (director's cut). And yes, there is. But it's not related to the point of my video.

"lights up and they know who you are, do you know who you are?" i think this is about his media perception lights up could be referring to fame and suddenly everyone "knows" who you are its not accurate but after a while when people keep saying something about you, even tho you know its not true you start thinking if it is you start thinking if youre all that theyre saying so in the end they "know" but do you know who you are?

Also, these are really the most obvious interpretations of these songs to anyone who has struggled with these things themselves. Just saying. It's astonishing how some people are not able to see the obvious, but I guess if they have never thought about these things, they just can't see it. 1:06 well not really if she is about gender and repressed femininity maybe talking about the partner isnt so disconnected like maybe its about the anxiety around speaking to your partner about it, like the whole would they still be attracted to me if i wasnt a man but "thinking of you" where you is referring to she makes more sense but "like all of us do" makes sense if its about the partner people are in similar situations probably think of this too you know
