Basically, ang sinasabi ng theory niya is that kailangan natin ang ibang tao at ang relationship na mabubuo natin with them para magdevelop ang personality natin in a good way. Kapag kasi hindi nangyariy yon, mataas ang possibility na magkaroon ng abnormal development ang personality.
Like other psychodynamic theories, nakita niya din ang personality as an energy system of needs and anxiety. Ang kailangan mangyari is maovercome natin ang anxiety para masatisfy ang needs natin, specifically our interpersonal needs, in every stages of our development.
