Beautiful rhythm and the grip that he made famous - he was untouchable for many years. Still the only golfer ever to have won six open championships! That's some feat in any era.
Suffered from TB for a decade & more, exceptional fortitude to play on numerous occasions due to coughing up blood, incredible individual who also had to put up with the 'yips' when putting. They do not make them like Harry anymore...what a MAN 👍
wait a minute, he's swaying off the ball, he's swinging back too far, the ball is too far back, his wrists are cocked too much, he moved his head, he came over the top. too many things wrong with that swing, you call that golf, oh and let's check that grip.
Try playing hickory shafted clubs in a tight jacket. He was the best of his time. Of course modern players like Will Zalatoris would beat him. Except Will can't play anymore because of his superior "modern" swing.
@@oldprogolf7292 yes, i was just making fun of it. i have a few of those wicked old wood shafted clubs and it's amazing how they could play with them. i have one that's called a rut iron used for hitting out of wagon wheel ruts if you can believe that. the head of the thing is like perfectly round and a bit smaller than the diameter of a tennis ball. i also have a couple of wide groove irons with really wide grooves. i've never hit any balls because they look too fragile. good golfing to ya.
@@steveperry1344 Aha, I wasn't sure how serious you were, there are a lot of idiots out there, particularly RU-vid pros telling everyone to swing like Joaquin Niemann. Old and decrepit now, I pass the time trolling them and warning folk of the dangers of the modern swing (Zalatoris). I like your SOH. Hang on to that rut iron, it could be worth a bit. Never saw one but when I was a young assistant pro I used to cut up those hickory shafts to make club extensions. Destroyed a few mashies and jiggers, I don't think they had any value. Tried to use them but never found the sweet spot.
@@oldprogolf7292 i'm 72 yrs old and been golfing 40+years. i've been a 13 hdcp. for 30 years and just can't get it down. i'm currently working on the more rotational swing and it works sometimes and when i lose that i switch to a more armsy type swing like harry vardon is showing. i tinker around too much with it. i just came back from the range and hit 3 large buckets in the cold weather, now i need a couple of advil. i have to go bowling tonight in about an hour, i like to do that too.
@@steveperry1344 I'm also 72 but not as fit as you. Polio 69 years ago, wasn't a big problem till a few years ago but now my legs have gone. Can only walk a few hundred yards. Played 9 holes twice this year in a buggy but it's a struggle. Go to the range, 25 balls is ok, 50 too much. Your 3 buckets is impressive. Very annoying for me as I have studied the swing so much in recent years, I know all my faults now and hit the ball better than ever (but no distance), sorted out my putting, now I can't play! I guess you did not practice much when you were younger so your handicap got stuck. If you want to send me videos I can analyse them but a good local pro would be best for you. Single figures should be possible if you practice. I take it you are in USA, I am in UK. Incidentally, another old pro who had polio is Jack Nicklaus, he got away with it but his legs look weak now so he may have Post Polio Syndrome like me. We have nothing else in common🙂.
