This video came at a perfect time.. lol Hubby and I just got home from camping in our little camper , and yes rule 1 got me this weekend. BUGS!!! I got chewed up by mosquitoes 🦟 and a horse fly 🪰!! Yes we did have bug spray but they still got me! Lol we’re going camping next week, so looks like I might have to take a shower in bug spray. Lol
Those horse flies are NO JOKE!!! They find you and attack you sooo quick with no warning. Left me with some serious welts! We tried long sleeve spf shirts and leggings and were pretty comfy in that. Particularly in the morning and then in the evening we suck it up and just spray with bug spray (even tho we despise it!)

we dream of a roof rack on our tiny camper! unfortunately, it's just a bit out of our price range currently. when we bought our camper used, didn't realize we were missing out on so much when it didn't come with the roof rack. we would use it for the awning & possibly solar panels if we had it!
I’ve got the same. Thule storage on roof of Subaru, ARB awning & the ARB attachment room. The room makes bugs not an issue. It doubles the size of my "home" & guests can sleep in it. Lived in Subaru for 3 yrs so just moved Awning to trailer. Why trailer? As you say it’s not stealth which was an issue I struggled with. My reason? The ARB is awesome BUT it’s attached to vehicle. If I put out & set up, I was stuck staying in place. I would have to put everything away just to go to the store. With trailer, I can drive away! ( I also spend 75% time in Pacific Northwest i.e. rain, rain go away). Needed trailer to spread out a little on the "occasional” rainy day. Please invest in something similar. It will change your life!! I also traveled w 2 dogs. The awning was wonderful for their food(no ants!) They were able to stretch out& have their beds without wearing leashes. At night, I put my bathroom solution out there. I also get to wake up & get dressed Standing Upright in privacy. *FYI-I’m a 60 yr wee lil lady that sets up ARB/camp by myself. Get out there & enjoy!!
@@stanbyme7874 thank you for sharing! I think you're right. it would solve our problem with 1. spot for a guest to camp if they tag along with us & bugs & keeping out of the rain. trust me, we have been searching!
I personally think those canopies are a waste of time there's no screening and if it's windy you cannot extend the canopy out... Better off with a clam or gazelle type quick pop up screen house they even have side curtains to completely enclose the screen house during bad weather
@@honeyiroam I love your show. I hope we could meet up on on our journeys with our runaways. I had my rack put on at runaway. Then I ordered a basket on Amazon. Just a little short on one side for strapping in my Walmart canapy. The basket is great for chairs. With this set up I've stopped at many places from Walmart to rest areas to grab forty winks.

add a small awning and drop down screen room, beats the bugs, well most of them. smittybilt makes the perfect 6 foot awning for just over 200 bucks and the screen room for under 100, have a dual awning set up on my braxton creek teardrop, works excellent and mounts to your existing roof rack
yes, love the idea. we are looking into a car awning so we can attach it to the roof rack on our car. carrying that 10x10 pop up canopy is just a hassle. thanks for the suggestions!

I noticed you have a rack on your Jeep. How about getting a soft side car top carrier to store your chairs,etc so you don't have to load/unload your camper all the time. I have a pickup and a soft carrier to protect my chairs,etc from the weather. Also carry food that you don't mind eating cold so can take advantage of free overnight parking. Still working on the potty issue. Safe travels

Aw you’re so sweet! We always wondered whether we should keep the bloopers in, but they are such a huge part of our personality, that we wouldn’t dare cut them out! We actually started leaving more bloopers included in the actual video too!

Try Skin So Soft bath oil. Rub it on the entry points where ants are coming in. Also SSS and water, 50/50, in a spray bottle. bugs HATE it. spray it everywhere. and consider a screened in canopy. It helps A LOT! Love your channel!
@@honeyiroam I was out there three months. I never would have made it without the screen house. It’s living space. And I think your idea to venture out of Florida, maybe west, maybe north, at least for the summer, is a very good idea one. Another thing I did was found storage for the camper ( which is pretty cheap in Florida) and spent short stints in an Airbnb. Sometimes I just needed four walls.
Just a suggestion that I found helped me a lot with bug bites...mix a little vinegar with baking soda and make it a paste and apply to the bug bite and in seconds the itchiness goes away ( for at least 24 to 48 hours)
Try this for flies. We had people over to our home, and someone was drinking a Smirnoff Ice. The finished the drink, but left some at the bottom of the bottom. Maybe a teaspoon or so. Before we knew it, a good amount of flies found their way to the bottom of the bottle and couldn't get out. If it works for you, great! If it doesn't, well, you still got to drink! Cheers!
I've seen people who use a Porta potty for middle of night/morning. Adding one of those canopy showers with a shower/changing/bathroom tents can get some extra room while at the campsite!

We are getting a square drop camper as well pretty much for all the same reasons you have one and more. We are looking into getting a roof top tent to house more people. Not sure if you knew about roof top tents or not. Just thought I would mention it so that you do not have to have family find another campsite. Keep up the awesome camping.

After watching so many videos of people living in their cars, vans, cargo trailers, campers and even tents the biggest thing that is important is organization. Using your car rack roof, an organized camping kitchen in your trunk and your carrier in the camper. Everything in its place when traveling and when at camp. Can't chuck it in there randomly because it becomes more work in the end. They sell net panels and sun panels for your pop up canopy you already own. Some type of screen house is a must. Also seen the magnetic screens at use for doorways used in cars, campers, vans, cargo trailers and Caravans. Sound investments. Being able to stealth camp is essential for saving money. Being able to Boondock anywhere without anybody knowing you're in your tiny camper. I'm sure that you ladies will start adding to your gear as you travel.
You are thinking exactly the same as us! Organization is key and it takes us a long time to get everything situated, but when it has a place, our lives are much better and more peaceful. Nicely done!!!!! Those tacos reminds me of the street tacos I used to buy in Querétaro, Mexico. Pollo/chicken is very plentiful and cheap in central Mexico.
Not only would I invest in a gazelle or clam pop up screen house.. I would invest in one of those little pop up shower/ toilet.. containment shelters .. then I would get one of those.. 2gal pump sprayers.. spray paint the outside black and set it out in the sun.. you can even heat up water on the stove add some hot water to the cold water and have a nice shower using the pump sprayer

in washington State if you have 30% VA rating or higher you can get a life time pass to all of the state parks in the state , over 150 state parks , and the state parks all have showers and restrooms , this is an essential perk for homeless vets that can stay in the state parks for free , year round
We are both just over 58 and sleep with Wise. Since you are taller, you could sleep lengthwise and if it’s a single or a double bag, you can definitely fit a little toilet. we still managed to fit one in ours!
Hahah that is the truest statement we have heard all day! They are very annoying, but luckily they don’t hurt us and we can go inside when they are swarming!
Most people would! Our jeep only pulls 1000 pounds, so we don’t really have many other options right now. And this set up also requires us to spend most of our time outdoors, which we really appreciate.
I would get a "CLAM" or "GAZELLE" .SCREENED pop up canopy / screen house .. they pop up so fast and the screening keeps the bugs out... They even have solid side curtains if you want to enclose it for the inclement weather... Forget awnings and regular pop-up canopies... Go with a clam or gazelle..
