To get rid of the smell better, use a new spray bottle and mix half water & half vinegar in it. Lay bread on a cookie pan/baking sheet. Spray front & back of bread with water/vinegar mixture (multiple sprays), making sure not to get bread soggy. Fill up dryer trays with bread (1 layer); making sure trays are full of bread. Go by directions on freeze dryer. After drying, when it asks you if you want to add additional drying time, add 2-3 hours. This allows for complete drying and better removal of odors.
@ Doctor Frankenstein - Thank you for the vinegar tip. I will be setting up my fd this weekend. Still binge watching setup videos. I want to make sure I do it right.
I don’t think it’s that the gasket works better, it helps it hold the super cold temperature for the sublimated liquid to freeze to the side of the machine…just makes it more efficient
Just got mine. Doing bread run and it’s been on freeze mode for 5 hours. Does the bread take that long before the pump kicks on? I feel like something isn’t working
To be safe check and make sure your pump is plugged into the back of your freeze dryer, and that the pump switch is switched to on. I do not know what the current factory presets are for initial freeze temp or if they have additional freeze time preset, I am getting a Pro Large delivered in the next couple of weeks and then I’ll know better what current factory presets are. Other things that can affect freeze time is s how wet you made your bread. These machines are not efficient at freezer the food so if it was really wet it may take awhile.
@@adventuresinfreezedrying thanks. Too late on the chicken. It was a small serving and I ate it. We freeze dried 4 gallons of fresh picked berries. :( ugh. I hate the thought of tossing those. I have no problem tossing the rice. Rice is pretty cheap.
It will go back into freeze mode if you don’t remove product…if that happens warm your trays for 5-10 minutes to make sure you can check for cold spots.
@@bushcraftcreationsbykristi2590 you will get an option that pops up, if the cycle completely ends and starts to freeze your product (keeps machine from defrosting and ruining your food), warm trays. Always warm trays if your cycle ended. Can’t check for cold spots if all of your food is chilled back down
