A bit more hands on compared to straight up and down a flat field on autosteer. Great video, fantastic scenery.

Every time I watch your videos I feel I should move out there and take up farming. But being a 48yo disabled vet I can’t keep a schedule due to the bad days being pretty bad.

Maybe one day we can get you behind the controls of a tractor. Theyre not as hard to get into and the new ones and they ride smooth

Awesome video, and enjoyed the interview. Would have loved if it was longer. 😉 A question for you about land use. In your videos, and from what I've seen the times I've been able to drive through southeastern Washington, I've noticed that there are fields of beautiful looking wheat, and right beside those fields, are what appear to be unused grasslands. Take the view at 2:22 as an example. In the foreground is some awesome looking wheat. In the distance are other hills. What, if anything, is done on those hills? Is there a reason wheat is farmed on the hillside in the foreground, but not in the background? Is it a different kind of soil over there? Rocks? Alternate fallow/farming years to preserve moisture? It would make sense if it's too steep or something like that, but many of those lands look similar to the ones being farmed; I've just always been puzzled as to why one area is farmed versus another is not being farmed. Unless those other hills are in the CRP program? I'm sure there is a reason, I'm just throwing my ignorance out there. 😆 Sorry for all the questions. I just love this region, and am genuinely curious. Thank you!

Its most likely crp. 70 dollars an acre per year is what farmers get to not farm it. If its a low yielding field, some farmers put it in CRP for a while. Could be pasture. Where i work its cause both CRP and rocks where they pasture animals.

At 2:22 that stuff is really steep. Its none of that. Its just an u farmed eyebrow by the road. Too steep

@@AK-FS my pleasure! The old mule teams could go places and cut wheat that we cant these days. Machines are too big.

@@TrevorStruthers Does anyone in the Palouse still try harvesting with a mule team? Just for 'fun,' I mean. Where I live, there is a local group that provides a 'steam up' each summer, where they dig out their old equipment, fire it up, and actually do some work with it. My grandfather in his later years purchased a stationary threshing machine, and we had several summers of running it. He'd plant a patch of oats, and then come summer, we'd pause from the regular farming and run a few bundles through the old threshing machine. Was a lot of fun... and a lot of work too! Just was curious if anyone in the Palouse still knows how to run a mule team in the harvest. And of course, that presumes there's still an old 'combine' from that era that they can use.
