You should have way more views, great video! Thank you for sharing. It gets me pumped as I am moving from Washington state to Florida here soon. I am glad to know I can keep the tradition of harvesting oysters with my sons.
That’s a good question. These are cluster oysters, and live clusters are heavy compared to dead oysters. Oysters that are closed tightly are probably alive, but open oysters are dead. Sometimes you can see the oysters spitting too, so those are alive. The best way is to get your hands on them and crack a couple open 👍
Ft George is plenty deep for your boat, and there's plenty of deeper drafting boats up there during the summer "Sandbar" season. You just have to go slow if you're not familiar w/ the sandbars. Go there on a pretty weekend, and just follow the other boats in and out. As far as Simpson's, It's probably too shallow at the Ft George entrance.
I'm not sure where you live, but go to these websites on the FWC site. These will help you find where to oyster, and if the season is open in your area. myfwc.com/fishing/saltwater/commercial/oysters/ fdacs.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=57f7d4b7d900496d99891f22681c66d0 Hope this helps 👍
I’m just asking if others have trouble with this, as a central Floridian the map has spots located but they’re neither green or red, most are purple, what does this mean
If you go this this map, and click on the color in your area, a window will pop up. In the window, click the "Area Status", and it will tell you if oystering is allowed. I hope this helps... fdacs.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=57f7d4b7d900496d99891f22681c66d0
